And he bought it at such a good price! Really looking forward to this one. We should start laying bets on how much he will have to spend on it. I don't think it will be terribly expensive....
Seeing that all the US- UA-camrs carry these moneypits into the junkyard gets my hopes right up for this one :) That said, it looks like the previous owner looked after the car as much as his wallet could :)
not true, just as many people save them as anywhere else, here in the states, albeit E36, E46 M3 and M5 and 80's cars are most popular. I would say that holds true for most of the world though. Most people don't restore the drivetrain though, they usually LS swap and i can't say i blame them.

I've nicknamed my neighbor "Loud Audi" because that's what he drives. Even on sub-zero days in the winter he starts his car and revs to 5,000 rpm repeatedly to warm the engine. "guess who's gonna rock Puff Diddly on the way to work???" definitely up there in the higher rankings regarding the best quotes said by any human ever...
Clogged oil feed lines for the eccentric shafts cause pre-mature wear on the shafts. Best way is to inspect the shafts for "grooving" where the intermediate levers make contact and the most typical spot is when the shafts are in idle position. But you have probably already researched that :P But good luck and love the videos :)
Upper timing case gaskets, valve cover gasket set and alternator bracket will all need replacing to cure leaks, as will vacuum pump seals. Replace the oil pressure sensor at the same time as they go bad and leak oil through the wiring sleeve. Coolant transfer pipe can be fixed using 32mm aluminium pipe carefully turned down to fit (which I did by spinning and gently sanding the diameter), then fitted using loads of appropriate sealant on the inside of the valley pipe and outside of the stent pipe. Nice engines to work on, to be honest. Did all this to my 645Ci last year and took me a total of about 20hrs across 5days. You can replace alternator bracket gasket by releasing engine mounts and lifting the engine using a lifting beam across the engine bay, then accessing the alternator and bracket from through the front.

Streten, in that bulletin they say you have to change ALL FOUR camshaft position sensors and the crank position sensors and reset adaptations. Now there is an update to that bulletin for how you reset the adaptions. In insta, it’s something with resetting the oil life counter on that. But it’s only in the UPDATED version of that bulletin you referenced. The only reason why I cannot stress doing all of those sensors and resetting adaptions is I almost put an engine in a customer car I was trying to diagnose for this EXACT issue. I checked timing, I checked the motors, I did everything. Car ran great too. But it would throw those faults and a fault for timing being a tooth off. I did all four camshaft sensors and the crank, did the adaptions reset and it was perfect. If I had work tomorrow I’d get you the updated bulletin number for that one you were following but follow that before you rip those valve covers off. They are a MAJOR pain in the fucking ass.
Some helpful E65 pointers! When you are changing the headlights, be sure to change the angel eye LED bulbs at that point if you plan on upgrading them to the more modern white LEDs, as the angel eye bulb is located on the underside of the headlight unit and requires the entire headlight to be removed along with the front bumper. In regards to your interior heat, whilst the blower motors can fail, so can just the resistor pack attached to it which is a seperate part. If you are getting heat but no real fan speed, the other culprit can be the HVAC control panel which requires replacement. As you have the rear sunshade, be sure to choose the HVAC controls with the same part number as what comes out (as there is some bizarre difference). You have the chrome lined door handles, which means you have comfort access. These handles are notorious for failing, which can also result in a battery drain. It's unusual to see them all sticking like that, possibly from lack of use or maybe Texas heat. The door handles come out relatively easily without having to remove the door cards, but you need long tools to unhook the handle latch system through the access port on the side of the door (theres a few videos on it). You may find greasing them up frees them up. In regards to the comfort access, if you find it is not working on any door, you may have frayed cables in each handle which can be soldered back together. If the touch sensitive strips have failed, there is no repairing them. Last time I checked, the comfort accesss handles are upwards of €700 a handle, so you could be better off doing a comfort access delete. In regards to what you mentioned about the exhaust vacuum valve, i would leave it be. The valve reduces noise at lower rpms; sticking that valve open the whole time will induce a drone noise into the cabin which grows tiresome. The CD changers in E65 models fail all the time, pull it out and replace it with a Dension Gateway, it gives USB/Ipod/Bluetooth/AUX. If you press and hold the driver window shade button, all shades activate at the same time. Whilst you saw no blue smoke, be constantly on the lookout for it whilst driving or on longer journeys. It may not have shown in your idle test, but it might show under different driving conditions. Do NOT use BMW stem seals, use Elring. I used the Bimmerpipe valley pipe, 5 years on and still going strong. Good luck!
Yeah, the point is - don't use BMW valley pipe. There are better solutions already, that doesn't require you to tear the whole engine - instead you cut off the original pipe and replace it with a extendable one. Way easier, way cheaper - same effect.

I’ve had the fortunate pleasure of spending 2 weeks with a 2013 B7 that my friend lent me. What a fast cruiser it really is. Other than lots of little assorted problems, it’s main issue was eating wheels like PEZ. He had some wheel insurance warranty, and used it 4 or 5 times. Small bumps=Alpina shrapnel. Beware, and have fun!
I am writing this while watching this video. I had a 2002 745i, still regret selling it. I know people are hating this gen of 7 but I don't. It didn't have blue smoke or coolant problem but it had alternator ( oil cool ) gasket leak and transmission pressure seal broken. Some more other issues here and there but in general I would buy it again! Since this video of yours, I decided I will look for one i near future !
I have a story about the E65 Gear Selector: In 2009 I was working as a Technician at a BMW Dealership. Another Technician a few bays down from me had just replaced a Brake Booster/Hydroboost unit on an E65. Something went wrong, and the car had no brakes, or hardly any. He pulled the little dongle-shifter into drive, and the car smashed into his Snap-On tool box. He then accidentally got it into reverse (this is where it gets interesting) and backed over the lift arms, crossed the shop and smashed a Drinking Fountain next to the parts department.
Great car! Be careful with the CD magazine drawer. Just eject the magazine with the little square button that you will see if you look carefully inside and then remove it fully and then push it back in until it grabs it and pulls it in and then wait for quite a while while it reads all the discs or checks that the magazine is empty and then after all that, the the door/flap will close by itself. Be very patient ...

Awesome video. I learned never to bring a car from one climate to another. When I moved from NY to Miami, Everything started leaking, creaking and cracking. Expansion and contraction is a real thing. I drove an SUV that had a small, barely even noticeable chip on the glass and once I hit cold weather, spiderweb! He should've sold it in Texas. Great find for you! Excited to see what you do with it!
Ah great to see an Alpina B7 been restored to full health by the genius himself. Every video I watch gives me a lesson or 2 or 3. So keep up the great work and i wonder by how much you cant chop off that 11k estimate. 👍👍👍👍
I had the valley cooling pipe replaced on my 2008 650i. The dlr quoted $9,000; I bought a legit collapsable aftermarket pipe for $900+$600 labor by moonlighting Master BMW tech. Prost!
The OEM batteries that come with the car are usually AGM. You don't want to boil them ever. When you have a battery this flat try to first revive it with a small lab PSU where you can set the voltage just slightly above the one you have on the battery and slowly increase towards the ~10V. Usually when you get to the 9v range a normal battery charger should be able to pick up from there. I'd recommend one of the CTEK (MXS5 is super popular). First let it do a full charge with the normal AGM mode, and them 2x "Recond". Charge, let it "sink in" around 24h disconnected and run recond one more time. You'd be surprised how well you can restore a battery this way. Love the channel. I must say I enjoy watching the cards from the "modern" era a lot more than the super old ones. This one will be really interesting for sure. Best regards from Berlin.
I know almost nothing about cars and have no idea how they work + how to fix them. I absolutely LOVE your videos tho. Very very informative and fun to watch! Love this channel!
Have fun with the valve cover gaskets, really tight job atleast on the 5 and 6 series. I had the integrated power module go bad on my 545i, it had a bad solderings inside. Also noticed when i had the 545i that the n62 is also very picky about oil quality and right viscosity. I had lots of issues with valvetronic and random misfires at first, then changed oil grade and viscosity to manuafacturer specific, fixed all vacuum leaks, pcv diaphrams and set minimum valve lift back to the original with ista. The coolant pipe is quite easy to change just remove wiring and intake and there is lots of space to install the collapsable coolant pipe.
I'm not in a hurry to get old, but from now, to next time, time can only go too slow 🤓 It's always a pleasure watching your videos, because of the tremendous amount of work but also because of your humor. 😎👍🍻
Sretus Maximus, I can't wait for the day when you start building your own motors. People total Alpinas for valve seals because of the labor involved. Doing heads over is pretty straightforward. That's a good buy! Maybe a 10-20 hours of paint work, and a couple of suspension pieces, and some light engine and cooling stuff, and you'll have a really nice car.
@@mattbudesa6351 valve stem seals are just time consuming. You cannot rush the job. You have to have a lot of patience. I did not remove the camshaft. I used a special set of tools to go around them. I have driven 325i compact for 18 jeans……….and still in love on BMW….. my compliments how you handle and repairing these great machines….. thank you for all the uploads…… greetings from Holland
I came back to watch this series from the beginning. I wish I am able to do the same thing with cars one day.
I have a 15 minute conversation with the CEO of a start up I applied to coming up, seeing there was a new episode up greatly reduced my anxiety and got me to smile.
Can't wait for the call to be over so I can watch this right after
My favourite episode ever!!! I am over the moon excited that you have purchased that amazing ALPINA!!! I will be counting the days until the next episode. To me this is a car you can't overspend on!! Very rare and collectable!!
And he bought it at such a good price! Really looking forward to this one. We should start laying bets on how much he will have to spend on it. I don't think it will be terribly expensive....
Seeing that all the US- UA-camrs carry these moneypits into the junkyard gets my hopes right up for this one :)
That said, it looks like the previous owner looked after the car as much as his wallet could :)
Or as much as it can be done
If I remember correctly, Hoovie’s Garage had one and sent it to J&J Auto Wrecking after pretty much exhausting his patience with it at the Car Ninjas.
not true, just as many people save them as anywhere else, here in the states, albeit E36, E46 M3 and M5 and 80's cars are most popular. I would say that holds true for most of the world though. Most people don't restore the drivetrain though, they usually LS swap and i can't say i blame them.
@Rockpport1911: That's because most of the US UA-camrs (regarding this type of content) are idiots.
@@legioner9 lol, I would love to do similar types of projects but it's just not worth it for me here. Aren't parts cheaper in Germany? Already have enough problems with my 400km GTI. Insurance is cheap...but if I get hit I'll get $2-3k max, if that.
Despite this one is the millionth video on this channel, happened to be one of the funniest episode so far. I'm more than happy that Sreten's sense of humor has not faded at all. And this B7 is such a beauty, can't wait to see it in its former glory.
Found your channel 3 days ago and can't stop watching every Project. Wow!
I've nicknamed my neighbor "Loud Audi" because that's what he drives. Even on sub-zero days in the winter he starts his car and revs to 5,000 rpm repeatedly to warm the engine. The lack of mechanical sympathy drives me absolutely crazy, and I feel bad for whoever buys his once great S5 coupe once he's done torturing it.
I share that just to say that I too yelled at my computer when that jackass revved your cold supercharged engine like he was trying to keep a balky string trimmer running. Awful!
Great show, as always. Keep it up!
These morning revvers are telling us something about themselves
What are the risks of revving a cold (especially supercharged) engine? Does it ware faster or can you get a catastrophic failure?

You sir, are a total beast. I’m still sorting minor stuff out with my e39 m5 that I finally got back on the road after 5 years, and have an e34 and e32 to completely go through after that. I can’t even imagine taking on anything else right now. I don’t know how you do it, but keep up the good work. I’ve definitely picked up some knowledge from watching your vids.
4:19 The best moment of this episode xD
I love that when you make a video its like a whole picture not some parts cut into 10 minutes without anything interesting on its own going on like some UA-camrs do
I understand that arguing about choises is pointless, but man, for me E65 is just GOAT, love it so much
Truly a leap of generations, I'd say this is a last great "old" BMW in terms of design
Thank you for working on this car, I feel honored to watch this
Man, I want more! What a killer deal for that car. It has definitely made its way to the proper person for saving it from the scrap yard.
"guess who's gonna rock Puff Diddly on the way to work???" definitely up there in the higher rankings regarding the best quotes said by any human ever...
I laughed out loud at that!!
@@agnez8646 yes

Thank you. Good to know! Will do that before removing valve covers. Edit: I found how to reset it with ISTA, will try tomorrow
The humor has always been good, but it's getting better and better. Love it!
Congratulations on saving this magnificent B7, the car is amazing. Hello from Brazil!!!

Good luck!
Your comment scared me away from BMW’s a bit lol
Yeah, the point is - don't use BMW valley pipe. There are better solutions already, that doesn't require you to tear the whole engine - instead you cut off the original pipe and replace it with a extendable one. Way easier, way cheaper - same effect.
I really like your recent "vintages" cars projects, but I have to admit that, with that Alpina you have all my attention !
oh man that truck driver gave me ptsd of a driver who told me he knew how to drive a stick trying to load my m3 on the back of his truck....i can still smell the clutch burning :(
I wish it was the one that Hoovies Garage scrapped months ago, but I know that came from Kansas.
Since this video of yours, I decided I will look for one i near future !
oh man when he started revving it a part of me died...
I have a story about the E65 Gear Selector:
In 2009 I was working as a Technician at a BMW Dealership.
Yeah it takes a minute. The one in my e60 takes almost a minute from inserting the magazine to read the discs and then play.
I like this project, it isn't something I'd mess with but I do learn alot from watching you tinker with it.
I agree. The stock window tinting is perfect. The tint that blacks out the windows detracts from the overall style.

That's a badass car. I truly appreciate you working on this, and I feel this is one you'll keep not sell. I look forward to the next installment!.
That Alpine is a jewel. Im glad you brought her back to life!
Prost!
That’s the best looking e65 I’ve ever seen
That battery was damaged sadly. It was recycled.
I know almost nothing about cars and have no idea how they work + how to fix them. I absolutely LOVE your videos tho. Very very informative and fun to watch! Love this channel!
I watched Tyler give up on his B7 and sell it to a wrecker and it made me really sad, it also made me think of you and whether you could revive it.
Best present for a long 4-day weekend! Thanks for the video!
I am proud owner of one, mine is fully loaded with 34K miles, black sapphire and tan interior. You will love that car after is fixed.
Chicago native here - Glad to hear the car didn’t spend much time here! It would have been a rusty basket case.
I'm not in a hurry to get old, but from now, to next time, time can only go too slow 🤓
It's always a pleasure watching your videos, because of the tremendous amount of work but also because of your humor.

Sretus Maximus, I can't wait for the day when you start building your own motors. People total Alpinas for valve seals because of the labor involved. Doing heads over is pretty straightforward. Many of the tasks you've taken on are as complicated or more so. Most peeps are scared to death of J-K-tronic but you jumped right in. I love it. You set a good example for everyone. Revving the car cold makes my hair stand on end. I got into a fight with one of my exes about that. She was the type to start the car and before the infotainment system even turned on that thang was in drive peeling out and hitting the interstate inside of 30 seconds. She also loved to idle it for hours on end. Thats honestly what sold me on toyota because despite the abuse it still ran pretty well.
