In a contemporary world where 911's are getting bigger and bigger, more kind of GT's rather than lightweight nimble sportscars, Cayman/Boxster philosophy is more close to that earlier 911's spirit, even if it's mid-engined. Great review ! 👍
Nuno MC totally agree with what you say size wise, I went for a 996 as I've hankered after a 911 for so my years, the size is perfect. I have always been a fan of convertibles so my choice would be a Boxster over a cayman, in my opinion with any 1 of them you'll have a smile on your face.
Oddly when I was researching caymans, I somehow didn't come across your video. I recently picked up a low k well cared for 2007 cayman s and what I loved about watching your video, was seeing on your face all the emotions I feel when I drive mine. Best thing I've ever done was purchasing a cayman, and we pay over twice the price here in Australia. Keep up the awesome work mate. Chris from The Runs and 3000 Dollar Cars.
Number27 lol seems I did see your video before. As i just scrollled down and found my older comment haha. I must be losing it. Its one of the many cayman videos I watched when researching, that's my excuse.
Glad you like it. Put an AWE Tuning exhaust on it though, and it's truly EPIC! My Boxster S came with one when I bought it, and I initially thought it might be a bit too loud. Nah. It's perfect.
I love my 2008 2.7! Sure the S would be nice, but I prefer the extra reliability as far as cooling goes on the 2.7. That way I don't feel guilty when I take it all the way to red line sometimes 😃 like a Porsche should be driven
Looked like a fun day out. The Cayman S the such a beautiful car to drive and handles like a dream. The only car I have ever owned that I miss. I just wish they were that cheap over here :(
Another great video. I love the Cayman but instead opted for a Boxster S. The exact same spec'd Cayman was nearly 5 grand more - plus I prefer to go topless! Not had a chance to put it through its paces yet, despite being a year into ownership. Absolutely lovely car. I felt the same about the manual gearbox too, so ended up getting the PDK w/Sports Chrono package. Did you like this enough for it to end up being the Esprits replacement?
Great video as always Jack. Back in 2009 I chose a Z4 M coupe over a Cayman S because for the same money at the time (£25K) you got a 3yr old BMW against a 5 yr old Cayman. I'd love to see you do a video of the Z4 M now to see how it would compare as they are both about the same sort of money these days.
Great idea James!! If I can get hold of one I will definitely try out a Z4M!! Heard thew driving experience is a little less polished than the Cayman..?
A car I'm definitely looking to purchase at some point. Although I kind of prefer the look of the 981 model, this one looked good on the film, so maybe I have to adjust my eye a bit :) Good video, keep'em coming!
Edwin Scott knew this was the 987, thought it was probably gen1 from the headlights, but it's on the cusp of the change isn't it, being a 55 model. Got me checking them out on Pistonheads again after watching :)
Hi jack, love the cayman s video, would really like to see you test drive a manual Porsche 981S with the PSE. All the best and keep posting these brilliant honest to the point videos. Good skills Michael
Want else can you buy for that kind of money and get that kind of enjoyment...... not a lot, unless of course you have a time machine so you can travel back a few years and buy a 964 coupe!😂 Jack, the video is great... keep em coming and at this rate we'll see you on prime time tv real soon.👌
This is the one to buy. The gen1 cayman especially the 3.4s is only going to go up in value. Buy two, one to use and another immaculate low mileage one to store away. These will be big money in a few short years..
Mally, I think you're telling me to blip the throttle on downshifts? if so someone else has also suggested it! Was struggling with pedal spacing.. but it's not that notchy.. just the action is a bit light and not very mechanical. Thanks for watching and commenting and for sharing on Fbook, really helps and much appreciated! Next time i'm round your way with one of the cars I'll stop by!
Dear Maurizio, the Z4M has been suggested by many others and does seem like the most likely competitor. I'd love to drive one, can you send me a message or put your mobile nr on the comments so I can contact you?
I think a non sat nav, manual Cayman is a great base....a few tweaks and thats a great little car. Looks so narrow compared to the fat boy currently out there... A 996 will always be a 911...I guess that's a thing (one that i'm cool with), but when heading down towards 10/12 k...one of each...
Great video, and it was a lot of fun to be involved in the making of it!

Thanks Nuno! Agreed!

Had my 2007 for 18 months now and even now I get a massive kick knowing its mine 😉
Best drivers car for under 15k easy

Yeah, youtube is weird!! Subbed to the Runs as well!! Cayans are just awesome. So, so good.

That would make it close to perfect!

Cheers Jeff! Well you've got your own beat almost ready to go soon!!
987 S is going to be a legend. The design of this car is so great.
Yep, great car.. one of Porsches best handling. Thanks for watching!

Hey Edwin.. don't know. I also need to factor in the fact i've already done a video on it now.. would be very happy to own for sure though!
Great video mate! I used to lust after a Ferrari 360 but I now have a Cayman in my sights for the near future. Glad you enjoyed it.
Best sportswear fir the money full stop!! Glad you liked the video!

I would take the Z4M Coupe over the Cayman because it is less "polished". So much more exciting as a daily.
A car I'm definitely looking to purchase at some point. Although I kind of prefer the look of the 981 model, this one looked good on the film, so maybe I have to adjust my eye a bit :) Good video, keep'em coming!
Cheers Anthony! Is the 981 the facelift version? If so prob does look a little better but there's not that much in it in my view looks wise!
Number27 it is the facelift version and you're probably right, the driving aspect probably doesn't differ vastly because if it.
987 Gen 1 is in the video, 987 Gen 2 is the facelift, 981 was the new model... Looks amazing but doesn't feel as nice to drive as the 987's to me!
Edwin Scott knew this was the 987, thought it was probably gen1 from the headlights, but it's on the cusp of the change isn't it, being a 55 model. Got me checking them out on Pistonheads again after watching :)
Just sold my 987 Boxter, think I’ll get a cayman soon, they look and sound fab, great for the money.

Very Kind Michel, thank you very much for watching and for the compliments!

Cheers Mike.. these really are great little cars! Keep it up on your 964!
Welcome to the world of Porsche.

Was looking at getting one of these Gee, just need to find 16k! try a more 'sustained' gear change slowing it down, it would be less notchy 😉

Nice video. It was a toss up between this and the z4m. I chose the zed but enjoyed the cayman. Your welcome to drive mine.
Dear Maurizio, the Z4M has been suggested by many others and does seem like the most likely competitor. I'd love to drive one, can you send me a message or put your mobile nr on the comments so I can contact you?
I was in the same position, went Cayman. Z4 a bit more of a hooligan it seems.
Bore scoring or rod bearing pick your poison. Ide take rod bearing
Regarding the steering, drive a 986, which is twice as good and then a 968 - that’s when you’ll feel the weight you’re looking for 😀
the steering in a 986 Boxter is twice as good as that in this Cayman? first time I've heard that..
Modern Classic 😎
Totally agree with you on that one John!! Thanks for watching
Wow a true 1st year gen 1 Cayman. All you find in US is 2006 earliest model year. Never even seen an 05.
I think a non sat nav, manual Cayman is a great base....a few tweaks and thats a great little car. Looks so narrow compared to the fat boy currently out there...

I want one!
Surely way to modern for you Trevor!!
is that clear glass on the engine a factory option?
no I believe its aftermarket
Excellent vid! Now you need to find an R!
Kevin
Let me know if you hear of one Kevin!!
6.34 until the gearbox gets a mention!
Shhhh....Don't tell everyone. 😉
do you even revmatch bro
:) Occasionally....
Really like my cayman s, however i miss my lotus.
sam newman what Lotus did you have Sam???
was a lotus elise 111s
sam newman why did you part with the elise?
👌
Cheers Torstein and thanks for sticking with me! viewer number steadily growing though I don't think Schmee is worrying yet!
Haha, but 700+ subs that quickly is pretty insane 😆
Porshh aahh, not Porshh
IMS paranoia preventing me from buy one
Don't let that ....the Caymans have the upgraded IMS..
