Thanks for this, as a tinkerer in electronics who just got myself a blocks songmaker kit to start dabbling with music it only took me half an hour to also go "hmm, that pad is cool, wonder if there's a way to make it do something other than the built-in stuff"... and from the google search for whether that was even possible to having my first cool little app running was less than 30 minutes! Awesome job, although as usual many of the constraints were likely due to a "last minute decision" by product managers to add such functionality to the product, had they planned it before it was basically finished putting an MCU with more memory in there would have been easy and likely affordable compared to the cost of all the custom materials etc. BUT on the other hand, had you had more memory you probably would have just used micropython or some other language that would have needed it all for about the same functionality, a custom language/compiler not being justifiable... but now you have something really tiny that will only allow for better stuff in future versions.
First general purpose sucks. Next Domain specific is way better think on a language for games or Web or so many other things not every application is effectively implemented in c because it is to general purpose.
Can someone provide a summary? I don't like to listen to an 43 minutes long narissistic rant full of pseudo-intellectual idioms from this snobbish guy.
There must be a better way of structuring and naming things in a more hierarchical fashion. That is my gripe with C. There should not be a reason to list every function without any type based filtering.
the summary is that he's been a pompous "wankor" since he arrived in London in the mid 1990s, could never stand the guy. Has a nasty streak if you got to know him well and thought he could get away with it when having an insulting snipe at you. The antidote was to just stand up to him and tell him how it is and how it's going to be - and he couldn't deal with it. A vain wimp and a coward basically, not to be trusted.
@@dissdad8744 I used to work in the same company as him not long after he graduated from St. Andrews and I mostly got snide remarks and put downs from him so I decided to give as good as I got. I walked past him when he was living in Camden Town years ago and he was on a bike with a girl following him and he said something nasty about me within ear shot, I had not seen him in a long time. There is something quite depressing about being around people who are a similar age to you and are complete tw@ts. Also he couldn't take his alcohol I remember and he said something a bit non-PC about a chap (ethnic minority) who sold him some chocolate in Camden Town which he was meant to smoke and he thought it wasn't chocolate when he bought it on the street. Also his gf at the time when I worked in the same company was an all round horrid person also and known to be.

The introduction is awesome!
Very cool talk but wheres the demo?
ironic that an audio company has bad audio. Gessh. Run it through a normalizer before posting.
Very inspiring talk!
2 years before announcing SOUL lol

@@andrewgill2496 Sounds like you had a lot of personal dealings with the guy. Do you also work in the audio software industry?
