Very interesting to me. I lived in the Buckner Bldg for the entire summer of 1970 while working as a carpenter apprentice on the small boat harbor construction that year. We subcontracted construction of the harbormaster building from the general contractor, T O Paddock Company. The entire construction crew lived in Buckner and ate in the restaurant in the same building. It was a very wet summer (as usual so I was told). I remember the shale on the beach was rather oily from storage tanks being ruptured during the 1964 tsunami. The buildings were beginning to look dilapidated even then. We supplied from Anchorage through the train tunnel. We snuck building supplies and equipment (commercial items were not allowed upon the train) by bribing the conductors with bottled whiskey.
