  • The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX offers a sports-touring package that bears some resemblance to the brand's WSBK winning ZX-10R, but in reality is it's own motorcycle, with a focus on comfort, long distance touring and of course built around a rewarding four-cylinder.
Priced at $19k on the road as tested, the Ninja 1000 SX is a great blend of technology and value, with traditional suspension, quality of life features like cruise control, adjustable screen and levers, an eye catching dash and easy to use electronics system.
If you're interested in racking up the miles, but don't want to go full tourer, the Ninja 1000 could be the bike you're looking for, being suitable for everyday riding when you don't want to load up the luggage or pillion and head away somewhere distant.
The super smooth engine also really benefits from a quickshifter, making for an extra engaging and fun experience, with the use of the clutch largely optional once moving, well suiting the linear four.
To demo ride the 2021 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 SX contact or head in to MotoHub Motorcycles in Castle Hill in Sydney. A big thanks to them for letting me quick test the bike! Their details are below:

For anyone interested in this bike and long term view, don't bother.... with any other bike. If you're looking for an allrounder that does everything really well, then just go for it.

Last week I had to make a hard emergency brake from 60 kph down to practically 0 (on my brand new 1000SX). The brakes worked perfectly. No wheels blocking, no sliding, nothing but a smooth stop in time. Excellent!

Very nice review Kris - you added in a lot of info that's typically ignored by other (larger/more mainstream) reviewers, and I think it's stuff that real-world buyers want to know about - kudos! Nice to see you cruising Old Pac!

Coincidentally, I got to test ride this same bike about a week ago. I found it to have a super smooth power delivery, with lots of torque in every gear, excellent quickshifter, very good display, and the comfort for my 6’ 1” frame was very good. I thought it was an excellent value here in the U.S. where it retails for less than $13k before State sales taxes.

Excellent, informative review- thank you. I'm giving this bike serious consideration as my next ride. I owned an '11 N1K & loved it but that was a few years back and my shoulders have worsened w/age- one of my few concerns w/the bike, the other being a good passenger ride. My '11 was NOT good two-up and I don't honestly expect the '20/21 to be much better, in spite of the passenger accommodation "improvements."'

Kris, thanks for the detailed review. The ergonomics video was informative on as well. Does this bike feel heavy in slow speeds & stop and go traffic? How is the heat dissipation? Do you feel your body weight on the wrists given its rider triangle? Sorry for the many questions. Thx

Another great review MJK. They are not the prettiest machines Kawasaki. Great bikes & priced well. But, when it comes to looks, it always in the eye of the beholder 😎

I was on the n1k forum the other day (z1k owner, the z1000sx has been called n1k in the US since it came out) and honestly I’m surprised and super pleased how many people are still getting into this bike. Really a testament to the original design of this platform and engine

Great review Kris. Thank you. I actually didn’t know it had a quickshifter, I paused your video at about the 3/4 mark and then re-started it from the beginning as I was watching the gear indicator and your left hand. So before you mentioned it did I realised it must’ve had one as I didn’t see you use the clutch at all. Looked very smooth both up and down as you mentioned towards the end. 👍😎

Great review mate, I want to upgrade my Street Triple R yet I love the light weight and flickable handling, should I be concerned of the extra weight? You can't have it all u guess.

Great review chris! Wondering how it goes in heavy day to day traffic, aka commuting?

Great review. Apparently a new one will be announced in a couple of days. Remains to be seen if it is a minor or major update. I am waiting for that before signing up for one.
