    I’ve been riding long and hard for fifty years; ridden the previous version of this bike for a few hours and loved it. But, when it comes to purchasing, here’s the challenge. Damn near every bike in this class are so good that demo riding one for a few hours can’t tease out the nuances that begin to matter over a few months; more the need for balanced reviews like this one. Well done!

    Ive been a fan of the 1000 Ninja for a few years now, and it has been a toss up between this, and the Yamaha MT10, and now with the addition of cruise control this one the Kwaka takes it for me! Such great value for great engineering

    I currently own an st 1300 and a 2018 goldwing. I just bought this bike for the sheer fun factor and it delivers in spades. Easy to throw around...love the electronics for the money...a great package for the money. Another long term keeper.

    One of the better VD reviews I’ve watched recently. I’m so glad to see Kawasaki keeping sport touring alive with modern technology and refinement. This bike just went to the top of my short list. I’ve had my eye on the Ninja 1000 for years. It’s finally got the features I want, and the styling is that much better than last year. Not to mention it’s significantly more affordable than the Versys 1000 SE+. Kawasaki has really been killing it with new product development recently, even better than Yamaha I think.

      I couldn’t agree more. They finally added the exact features I’ve been hoping for as well. Seriously the ultimate combination of Sport, Comfort, and Tech for a price that’s reasonable. Doesn’t get any better than this. It will absolutely be my next long term bike.

    I love motorcycle touring, and have tried all sorts over the years, GSs, Harleys, Gold Wings etc. For me my SX ticks the most boxes, It's comfortable enough (I have gel seats), its got just about enough tank range, I can load it up with all my camping gear, it's as quick as I need it to be, it is very well priced, but by far the biggest advantage over all the others, for me at least, is that it is comparatively light and has a reasonable seat height. I'll wait another year before thinking about trading up; there may be some more appealing colour schemes next year.

      Hello Alan, very interesting remark. I also love touring on my motorbike, I do several 1000 km+ trips a year, in the summer a 4000 km and living in Europe covering distances to get to more enjoyable destinations for people with a limited time-budget, unfortunately means doing some long stretches of motorway/autobahn/autoroute/autostrada/autopista, you know what I mean. I'm very drawn to the Ninja 1000sx ever since I test rode one out of curiosity. The problem is you just cannot simulate riding comfort on a test ride, albeit a three hour long one. I ride a GS and it has performed flawlessly and has provided a lot of comfort on those tedious motorway spells. But after riding the Ninja, for the first time after riding a different bike than mine, when I hopped back on my GS it suddenly felt noisy, clunky, unrefined and biiiiig. I post this comment as you said that you come from a list of, arguably, very comfortable motorbikes, including the GS. What would your take be on that particular bit of riding, covering miles on the highway with the Ninja? Cheers

    Commute to work 3 Miles NYC
    It’s an amazing bike…no vibes.. super silky smooth. Great for two up.. easy to lane split.. electronics spot on. Throttle so smooth.. way better then my Ducati multistrada or the bmw s1000xr any day

    Yup. I've wanted one forever. Fell In love the first time I rode one. The used market out here in Arizona is ridiculous on them though. So I just go from zx6r to zx6r cause that's all I can evidently afford. Wish sport touring bikes lost value like sport bikes over the years. Eh, what can ya do.

      Agreed… They certainly do cost a fortune. At least you are able to have a nice reasonably priced motorcycle, The 636 is a bad ass machine! I’ve got a humble collection, but even as my financial opportunities grew and some of my vehicles got a little more elaborate and special, I’ve always had a special love for Kawasaki, i’ll never sell my 14 or my ZH2... such an amazing value and unbelievably reliable. Nothing wrong with a 2003 FZ-1. Mine was the black and yellow. Really tall gears though so yeah, different beast. But the FZ-1 is way lighter and way more flickable because of that. I'd keep the FZ and just buy the Ninja. It is more tour oriented even though the FZ had plenty of luggage options. Used to belong to an FZ rider's club here in Florida. Good group. Both bikes have tons of aftermarket. The Ninja will take it off the line though. Torque at 2krpm in ANY gear!

    My issue with this bike is that I wish Kawasaki would have a lowered clipon option for those of us who want a sportier feel. Not talking about track supersport type low but just like an an inch or 1.5-2, to make it a bit sportier. On a positive note, I LOVE that they finally added cruise control! Jusy Wigan they didn't half ass it and also added heated grips.

    Well I'll say I'm one of the 2017- 2019 purists. The add-ons are spot on no doubt but I can't see me getting over them dual pipes. Kawi just gave away this insignia advantage in the litre sport touring class IMO..

    • @LightsCameraShane
      @LightsCameraShane 4 роки тому +1

      Those stock dual pipes sucked ass! They were like having 'jazz hands' on both sides of the bike. Huge and fucking heavy. I replaced mine first thing with a full Akropvic race system with dual exhaust. The frame hasn't changed in the new model. I'm sure you can get duals for it. Wanna bet?!

    10 year old bike and God help them if they even TRY to take it out of the lineup! I owned 2- 2011's and loved them. Loved them more because they had no ABS, ride modes, traction control, etc. I'm old school and I actually now own a 2020 Ninja 650 KRT ABS. NOT a fan of the basic ABS. First time it kicked in it was like I went into a coast mode. Scared the shit it of me! After about a second it tried to grab. Honestly, I do better on my own. But the reason I down-sized was the 650 was more comfortable than my old 2011 Ninja 1000. Now that's a moot point because they did the same in the saddle for the new 1000. Cruise control is nice. I can do without the USB, but a tourer should have heated grips. They are an option and pretty much plug and play as I had them on my 2011. Center stand? Yeah, would be nice but would also kill ground clearance a bit. Besides, my 2011 forced me into buying a forward facing Pit Bull rear stand because with a normal rear stand your hands get scraped on the rear fender, and a rear stand bends the fender until you lift the bike. You forgot to mention the fly-by-wire. Everyone seems to love it.
    Nice review.
    I liked your two-part on the 2020 Ninja 650 as well. But I bought mine before I saw it and traded in my 2019 MT-07 in on it... Not a single regret there.

    Sounds like the new version still has all of the good things my 2019 Z1000SX has and which is why I bought it. I'd like to try the new one with the quickshifter but I'm not sure how much I'd use it as like the reviewer I pretty much leave it in 4th. Cruise control would be useful for the longer journeys and more rider modes would be nice, I only have Full and Low power modes. Lack of centre stand is a bit of a pain, but not uncommon on many bikes these days. A better seat is good, but I have yet to find my seat uncomfortable and I've done 2 hrs in one go no problem. I think I prefer the look of two exhausts, but I expect with an nice aftermarket the single will look good too. Vibes from the engine? The demo bike I rode (last year) was quite vibey, however I broke mine in properly and I've yet to find the vibes, very smooth. To be honest every time I ride it (several times a week) I just keep thinking what a well sorted and well engineered machine it is, I can't wait to do a proper tour on it this summer.

      Aren't riding modes just a combination of power modes and different KTRC levels? That's how I see it. The term 'power modes' is just an incentive from the marketing dept.

    • @dmandhelen
      @dmandhelen 4 роки тому +1

      Dominik P. Well actually the 2 power modes on the 2018 model are exactly that 2 “power “modes.. Full and Low .. the low one is about 75% of the full one .. it has nothing to do with the TC ...the benefit is .. that when it’s wet .. you can give it a handful and it doesn’t get stupid ..!!! :-))) not sure how this new one is set up though as it’s got 4 modes by the sound of it ..??:-)))

    • @dmandhelen
      @dmandhelen 4 роки тому +1

      Dominik P. Yes of course you can manually do that .. but they are not automatically combined ..??? As they are on lots of other bikes .. if you’re in full power .. you get full power no matter what ..!!! If your in low power you get lower power no matter what ... the TC only intervenes is you lose traction or it starts to wheelie .. it then cuts power ... otherwise it has no affect.. on the new bike you can choose a setting that combines to two together automatically..:-))

    • @dmandhelen
      @dmandhelen 4 роки тому +1

      Dominik P. On the 2018 model there are 2 power modes and 4 TC modes .. you can manually combine these into various degrees of power and TC... 8 different variations..?? But they are not modes really ..??? Riding modes are usually pre set by the manufacturer and they usually include a manual mode .... ie .. ROAD,RAIN,RACE ,TRACK..etc... these are modes .. !! That’s the difference.. the 2018 doesn’t have any of these .. the 2020 does ..:-)) hope that explains what I mean ..:-))

    You know, there is just a special feeling you get when your Ducati keyless ignition won't start the bike in the mountains of New Mexico outside of cell coverage and many hundreds of miles from the nearest dealer. It might be time for something a little more practical. The '20 Ninja 1000SX looks like it might be just the ticket for a bike that is fun in the twisties but not torture pounding out the long highway miles from my home in flatland Texas to those twisties. The price is great too. It's the modern electronics that ultimately make this bike something I would consider.

    "What do we NOT like about the Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX: It doesn't come with a USB port" ... I think that pretty much says it all.
    OK, being a happy owner myself I can add: Very low ground clearance (130 mm) which makes it a slightly dodgy proposition getting on and off the pavement (sidewalk), hard to reach tire valves (I installed 90 degree valves on mine) cheap looking brake fluid container, and a sometimes inconsistent petrol range sensor reading.

      They've converted to ride-by-wire to give people the CC and QS down/up. Styling changes, windscreen changes. Bike made the most power in 2011-2013 before cam changes and increasing emissions regs, but people complained of vibration. Frankly I still like the GSX-S1000 engine more for it's character, sound, increased power, smoothness. Just wish Suzuki would have gone more tourer with the F-model. Instead they put money into Katana remake, with a tiny 12L tank.

Deep, throaty and loud enough that I bought the silencer for it. Makes the MT-07 I had sound like it's taking a piss!
