I need both of you two to go on the whatever podcast. Mr. West your voice and way of communication is one the world needs to hear.
Doubtful it will make any difference. Most of the women on that already heard and would reject that they are being used. In fact they twist it to say they're using men. So it's hard to get your point across to a person that can't even wake up to their reality.
The first couple of minutes of this discussion are also at the heart of the fights over both abortion and IVF. Seeing people as things, and a willingness to use others to get what we want.
Love and Responsibility was the most difficult book I’ve ever read… and it changed my life. It was the philosophical framework I needed to overcome some of my lifelong sexual distortions and begin loving my wife well for the first time in almost a decade of marriage.

Only 17 min in - great discussion already! (Side tangent comment - just curious to know if I am the only one or not.) Unintentionally, Matt did actually pinpoint my one issue with Braveheart and why The Patriot will be my favorite out of those two Mel Gibson films. Wallace DOES in fact have a “fling on the side” with the princess. Granted, it’s after his wife’s death, but still, I always felt there was a jarring dissonance between the beauty of his brief marriage with his wife and the obvious holiness of it, and the one night stand he has with the princess, seemingly forgetting his deep-seated commitment to avenging his wife’s death. It really felt very out of character, fueling the plot, while sacrificing his integrity as a character. Anyway …. Continue. Loving this!

That book changed my life
In my experience, some theologians frown upon TOB and dismiss it too soon.
Christopher is the kind of academic who has the heart & mind connection and knows how to translate theology into the practical. I don’t think this makes him any less of a scholar (on the contrary). The participation of Matt, who, by self description, rests on Aquinas’ style of theology, and his interested engagement in the conversation is a breath of fresh air.

that is why if you ask any old grandmama in Poland ( the believer one) she will tell you he was the only good Pope 😅I read this book 25years ago during my studies and wrote master thesis about christian view based on John Paul anthropology I new this is my life from there to carry on and teach about it in my psychotherapy office😇God thank you for this Pope and what he left for us❤

Anyone else find this somewhat defeating? If it's so hard for a man to connect a person with a woman and these two men who have taken the time to study it are still struggling to see the woman connected to the body, like what are the chances of finding a man in the wild that could love you for you?

Hey, I really loved everything I've heard about Theology of the Body, it made sense to me and it's very beautiful, but a friend told me (not talking bad about it, just wanting me to know what I was getting into) that it goes against what the classic theologians like Thomas Aquinas have said on the matter because it's based on phenomenology. Are you guys fine disagreeing with past theologians? Should I be fine with that?
Since all of our knowledge, thoughts, experiences, etc. are mediated via our bodies to some extent, I'm curious as to whether you think we can come to any conclusions at all totally absent of phenomenology.
Also, two important things to remember are that 1) many past theologians believed things that the Church has rejected as heresy, and 2) Church teaching is not derived from philosophy or human experience - however, because it is TRUE, it corresponds to our experiences and best thinking.
@@JGComments I'm not big in philosophy myself, I just need to know who to trust. I really liked Theology of the Body but I was accepting it because I thought it didn't only make sense to me, but because it traditionally made sense. Now someone told me it's not traditional, so should I accept it or should I look into what Aquinas had to say about these matters? You understand?

@@old-man-mariner Sure, that makes sense. For myself, I've chosen to trust the teaching authority of the Church, so hat makes it easy for me, but it never hurts to ask the question. I don't know if it helps or makes things worse, but a lot of ancient theologians conflict with each other and with Church teaching, so personally I don't give their writings as much weight as Scripture or Church teaching.
Now apply this principle, what JP ll defines and defends, to immigrants, to terrorists, to enemies. This is what Luke 6, 27 - 33 says. Jer 31, 31 Feom Ron 7 to Rom 8

I think there maybe needs to be a distinction made between "rigorous" and rigourIST. I think that rigorous position could offer an objection or alternative that is NOT; "sex is basically bad, but necessary, and therefor only ok for the express purpose of fertility" but rather; "sex is something that we share in common with the animal kingdom, and thus we ought to be careful in our language of elevating it to too high a status." Those are two similar things, but still distinct. Let's be careful of putting up straw men.
33:51 yes this is why/how priests integrate their sexuality as well.
The argument against contraception is irrational. If you practice NFP and say "oh no, I won't share my body with you today, because I'm fertile" that IS utilitarian AND it prevents bonding on top of that. A couple that has children and uses it respectfully, is not sinning by using contraceptive methods which do not have an abortificiant effect. "I only love you with my body when I'm sure I won't conceive" is degrading the bonding experience. You can "use" your spouse when using NFP, just as you can with contraception. The mindset is the issue.

@@TheologyoftheBodyInstitute I've read Humanae Vita. I know all the arguments and have watched every video, but nothing makes it logical. People who have children usually have to abstain more than they should, because life with children is busy. There is no virtue in abstaining even further and claiming it's loving to not bond when the fertile phase comes into play. Either one is honest and says NFP is also trickery, or one allows for non-abortificient contraception.

But you also making a mistake saying there is no virtue in abstaining since spouses are free to abstain by mutual consent for however long they want. Sex is not absolutely required for marriage happiness. There are other ways to bring attention to that. By showing more care and respect in every area even the little things. By prayer and fasting.
Also in order for nfp to be completely free from fault at least done for a long time there must be mutual agreement among spouses, a serious reason, and due safeguard against attendant dangers.
The opposite of love is indifference.
Love is hot.
Hatred is hot.
Indifference is cold, freezing cold.
