- Shadow Empire is a game that is absolutely sure to live on in time. It's rare that a game captivates the imagination to this extent, let me know what you think about the overview down below. What sort of planet would you choose to start on? And what government? Let me know in the comments. Thank you!

... Lords of the Shadow.
Nerd.
This game is a perfect example of how 4X, logistics, and wargaming merge together to create something beautiful. In most wargames you are capturing certain hexes for an arbitrary "Victory Points" counter, whereas in Shadow Empire you are capturing hexes to: cut off enemy supply flow, shut down food production and literally starve their cities and soldiers to death, capture oil fields and keep enemy mechanized forces stuck in place and unable to launch offensives, capture enemy power generators to mothball production buildings and cause chaos in their cities, etc.
Basically everything has a purpose and it stretches the strategic flexibility so much by allowing the player to analyze and pick exactly what needs to be done. I really hope more devs take hints from this game.
How do I keep my own people fed!? I have built a bunch of those indoor growing centers but I always seem to be negative on food :D
@@AgrippaMaxentius Call your governor and make sure "Allow Emergency Food" is checked. I do this for all cities. Without this on your non-government worker population will only eat from their own supply (private owned buildings). When you check it on it means that they will be fed by government owned buildings (public, meaning your empire's control).
Also you need to make sure your logistics network can carry the goods back and forth. It's pretty realistic. Sometimes you will be in a situation where you are producing more than enough food but your transport network can't get it to where it needs to be.
The greatest game in a decade, even more. And so much potential if it can further develop !
Truly magnificent game.
Every playthrough is so different.
When you play Shadow Empire, you reconize how bad the other 4X games are on the market!
JUST saw this, absolutely correct
@@AgrippaMaxentius well, maybe „the others“ are not really bad, but they are quite poor!
A few to only come by with this distant worlds universe(idk about 2) and stellarjs(havent played this yet but it does have good reviews)
@@moedictatornoriega8475 the first stellaris playthough is really fun. after you get to know the game, it gets frustrating. because of performance and strange game design decisions.
they just throw more and more content in there for selling dlc, but its all so strange... many mechanics are simply arbitrary, defying logic.
shadow empire is the better 4x. and my computer stays cool, when i play it, not hot gpu :D with theese temperatures right now in this hot summer thats a bonus ^^
This game looks really good, my biggest drawback is how long returns take! It seems awesome but I also feel like I don’t wanna spend 1/4 of the gameplay watching the loading bar 🥴🥴
wow, this game just blew my damn mind.
I've been slowly learning this game by watching streams and UA-cam videos. So many menus and views to use.
this looks great, thanks for the video. Probably wouldn't have heard about it for weeks without it.
I found this game after someone I'm subscribed to started it and needless to say, this answered almost all my questions about it really quickly. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
TBH i like the fact that if someone would replace all the portraits/and artworks with some higher quality ones the game would instantly look so much better
It's the first 4X since Civ IV that's grabbed me.
Try Hearts Of Iron 4 (I'm no fanboy but I did play it for 17 days straight). Star Ruler 1 not 2. And I assume you've already played Galactic Civilizations 2. That's all I could find to recommend quality 4X wise.
The...moon? XD i'd so start with that ahah, nothing like some moon empire lol, would be better if it was bigger tho.
But nice, look interesting. Somehow it reminded of that brawser game, nationstate i think, where you create a nation and make it to your immage... Can give it a description, there are online events and stuff... Daily events in the form of newspaper where you have to make choices that will dictate the future of your nation...but except those "events" can...get wild and weird. Like "there has been people losing themselves during trailing, your security deputy suggest to put gps shackles on people so that we can find them easier. That is when the freedom party spokeperson barge into your office saying it would be an outragious anti freedom and privacy act. Optionaly, your secretary had a suden moment of clearvoyance, and suggested to simply close national forrest and ban trailing."
And, like, depending on your choices it has small to big impacts on your nation toward autocracy, dictatorship, democracy and so on. And like, there are choices/events you can't even tell what kind of effect it will have. You have to balance wellfare, education, military, government owned industry or private owned industry. And then you have some supper events, like making a super orbital weapon, or super fortresses, or make mechs and so on xD
1:39 Heard "Cults and Sex". You had my interest for a moment there.
I'm also a fan. More the latter than the former.
This looks great!
Has me intrigued, will have to check it out!
Make me think of the Age of strife from Warhammer 40k
That game looks quite nice, ty for the vid
I hope they work on the ai, and if they create a sequel perhaps improve graphics so you can see how units and terrain actually look
Ok, I'm interested. Thanks for the recomendation, Agri!
I put in thousands of hours into Civilization 3 and Civ 5. Should I check this game out? Is it too convoluted?
It's a complex game, but worth the time
This is in my steam wishlist even though I’ve never heard of it
I only noticed bc it’s on sale
best 4x game ever made. It finished what empire of fading suns set out to acomplish.
Thanks for this video! It was just what I needed to buy the game
Really difficult but addictive with lots of replay.
i got an alienware area51m during the holidays and this is the only game that I have installed, such a great 4x
How did you record this game?
Regardless, thanks for this video, it does look interesting.
Hi there, I used Bandicam
@@AgrippaMaxentius Thank you. I bought the game because of your video. It's on sale at GOG. Have a fun weekend!
Is this a spiritual successor to Armageddon Empires by cryptic comet?
Uncannily similar in some aspects, isn't it ?
But very different in others... so I'd say it's a bit like comparing the WarHammer 40k **tabletop** game (NOT the WH40k **video** games) to Starcraft (1) ?
Imagine a low fi total war game with these mechanics and settings.
I want to seriously ask anyone reading this, do you think the game is over priced, it's a minimum of 30 dollars USD and 40 CAD
not at all. Look at any other strategic or tactical wargames they all charge 60$+
The engine this game runs off of is insane, it can actually simulate army vs army groups on a grand strategic level.
did they fix the logistics yet?
What needs fixing ?
if u value your time sleeping or doing a 5k piece puzzle keep your fingers away from this game, :)
ROFL
Is there a tutorial?
There is an in-game tutorial yep. But I aint gonna lie, its a long one :D
Intriguing but I think I would have a hard time feeling like anything is actually happening when everything is just menus and pictures 🤔
Gotta use your imagination my man.
@@AgrippaMaxentius while I get what you're saying, and that other people might be okay with that, that's not what I really play video games for. For me it's to have someone else's imagination presented to me in a visually, orally, aurally, and narratively compelling way. And while a game doesn't have to be AAA to do that, it's that combination of things that entices and engages me.
This will probably sound harsher than I mean it to no matter how I say it but, if I want to use my imagination that much, I'll read a book.
@@SliderFury1 I hear you, but as someone who has worked within the industry you're going to be stuck with what AAA churns out. You don't think these studios would go crazy on graphics if they had the money? They don't have the money because people's expectations are quite high, and only AAA companies can meet them in the graphics department. So the AAA companies win and they don't even have to offer a compelling narrative or gameplay, just keep their graphics above everyone else.
@@AgrippaMaxentius agreed man, when I think AAA games of recent years that were actually good, I think God of War, Ghost of Tushima…maybe Horizon? That's about it for me.
I love supporting small developers, I actually bought Hades even though it's not really my type of game just to support them, haven't played it lol (I probably will eventually).
So I will definitely still give this a look. But there's definitely some "what if" sadness here, where if these guys turned this into a Total War/Galciv type deal it would be so epic!
But I guess they would eventually get to that point with enough support so I am happy that so many people are loving this game so much!
wayy too complicated for me
dont say that dude. you gotta explore the game, and dont be afraid to read the manual over and over.
its extremely rewarding.
Agreed, very rewarding!
3:24 And we will call ourselves, how about...
...continues to pick the most CRINGE NAME ever.
That's untrue, it's a really cool name. All of the ladies told me so.
