This is a pretty recent video about this topic so this comment is kinda like a tip. If this video doesn't work for someone or only partly worked: the problem might be with your onedrive trying to sync with your computer files (especially if you don't have enough space to upload all files to onedrive either). I had this problem with my completely new laptop and when I moved the exact same image folders to my external hard drive, all problems stopped and my image previews showed without any problems. That's when I noticed I only had this problem with folders that were linked to onedrive. I simply fixed this by uninstalling onedrive completely since I only use google drive anyways and hated seeing constant "you dont have enough space on your onedrive!!" pop ups, but you could try just unsynching onedrive with some folders if you don't want to be this radical lol.
DUDE I LOVE YOU, YOUR COMMENT HELPED ME, I REMEMBERED I HAD DROPBOX AND IT ALWAYS SAID IT WAS FULL SO I JUST UNINSTALLED IT AND IT WORKED!!! NOTHING IN THE VIDEO DID BUT YOU HELPED TYSM
That worked me too, thanks. Problem is I always had enough space free on the OneDrive. My problem started after I took my laptop to be scanned by experts because I thought I might have picked up a bad virus. They told told me I had removed it myself but the software they used changed a few little annoying things. I'm going to re install OneDrive and hopefully the problem doesn't start again.
This did not work for me. I tried: -clearing thumbnail cache -checking the settings at 1:24 -restarting file explorer -uninstalling OneDrive Nothing works. Also my computer has 97 GB of space left, so it isn't due to low space.
None of these worked, but thanks for trying. I've also noticed that my thumbnails sometimes disappear when Windows has an update waiting to be installed. They return once updated and restarted. No idea why they've all disappeared now, though.
@Clayson Antoons. Didn't work for me. The thumbnails appear, then the green loading bar (in the address bar) starts running towards completion then the thumbnails disappear
None of these tips worked for me either. My files were in DropBox and I thought to transfer them to OneDrive. So, when moving the files, thumbnail appeared. And when I moved the file back, it remained. For me the problem seems to be somehow related to coud services... Dunno, but his is how I got it working. : )
Command prompt wouldn't go through, say's there's no /s Edit: I uninstalled OneDrive and my music mp3 thumbnails came back, but my video and image thumbnails are still blank. Final edit! Ok so after uninstalling OneDrive and restarting my computer I opened file explorer options and clicked restore defaults and reset folders and now 99% of my thumbnails are back! Idk what's wrong with the few files that are still blank but this is still WAY better than them all being blank.
Good video, but these tips did not work for me. What did fix it: Go to the folder with missing thumbnails, in the top-right search box type "*.jpg", wait for all thumbnails to refresh, clear search box
None of these work for me. I have an Acer Aspire 5 Windows 10. I tried restarting, changing options, updating windows, etc. I'm tired of always having a problem with laptop(s).
Yeah. None of these worked. My computer shows SOME thumbnails, but not all. In fact, it will show the most recent media files thumbnails, and all the older ones have just icons. This doesn't seem to be something this video or others address at all.

so... what if none of these worked? I tried all steps and am still not seeing thumbnails. If it's a folder I haven't opened in a while, I'll see the thumbnails, then I'll see them slowly disappear one by one.
ok, I tried all the methods that is shown on the video. But I'm still having issues with the thumbnails not showing. Some thumbnails does show, but I have half the other thumbnails not showing. does that mean the files is corrupted or lost that it can't show the thumbnail. I want to clean them but I do not have MalewareFox, Does Mcafee counts as a maleware cleanup.

Hello, already try all tutorial but don't work.. thumbnail picture is oke, but video thumbnail not ... This problem occurred after downgrade windows 11 to Windows 10. So frustated me, please help me.. thanks

I had to run disk cleanup several time to remove all the thumbnails and then my jpegs displayed...........thanks a bunck.
I've done all these fixes. My recommendation is to take your Windows 10 computer, remove the hard drive and replace it with Windows XP. All my thumbnails came right back! I'm convinced Microsoft has lost it altogether! There was NOTHING wrong with Windows XP! Problems on top of problems on top of problems with 10 and I fear Windows 11 will get much worse. how to fix this one sir... whenever I move my floating windows..the outline thing of the floating window,s the only following my cursor and the body stays but when I let it go it just teleported inside of the outline thing..
My issue is not all of my video thumbnails are missing only seemingly being MP3 and MP4 files either from SFM or downloaded from UA-cam with other videos actually having thumbnails
All of this did not work including the one drive. I just have a screen of blank page thumbnails. I kept running out of space, deleted and moved about 5 gigs of data over to another drive, and within 1 hour, my computer was saying I was out of drive space again. Right now it says I have 374 MB free of 458 GB. I have run a virus program, and nothing is found. I uninstalled Google Chrome for right this second and running fire fox because all my browsers also saying out of memory and I only have 3 tabs open. Anybody have any ideas?
So one common issue to look at, is to make sure you have enough storage space before going through other complicated steps... How often do people check, especially now, the level of storage space they have left? Just sayin'.
Let's be honest, windows 18 sucks! So many issues, stuff that I never encounter with Win7 Yes it looks slightly better but what a piece of crap. I wish Google had a proper operating system to compete against piece of crap Microsoft.
All the stuff in the video was good stuff, but it didn't fix my issue. My issue was that disk space on C: was low (less than 300 MB) and so no icons were shown or cached. After cleaning up the disk, it started working again. Anyway, loved the taskkill, delete, start explorer script.
Thank you Klaus! Reading your comment saved me form re-installing windows. I was thinking why my thumbnails are not showing even when the Settings checkboxes are visibly accurate.
I have to agree with @NeverGonnaGiveYouUp however it took my Stoner brain a few extra seconds to realize that I wasn't on the view tab when I was going into options but soldier in less than 30 seconds things and people like you are extremely detrimental to the computer manufacturers sales report because I am certain that you are a significant reason why people are not smashing their devices in frustration over something so easy and stupid you save the normal people and everyday people a lot of money that they would have to spend due to potentially anger issues no they can use that money they saved it from not having to buy a computer on anger management lessons lol bottom line is thank you for this video you would have saved me a lot of money and most likely a punch in the face from my brother if I ended up breaking his computer lol I'm not going to confirm or deny whether that was a powerful joke or a serious statement either ha ha ha
