The lighter Poirot classics were my fave. Wasn't a fan of the more colorful glamourous adaptations, especially when they completely changed the plot and culprit. I agree totally end of an era

The switch from film to digital not to mention the colour grading was quite the eye sore. It ruins even the better "newer" adaptations for me.

The later seasons were dark and over dramatic. They didn’t have the ying to go with the yang. One of the reasons why my wife and I enjoy the Ustinov and Rutherford films, they had a good story but added a bit of campiness. Even the Marple series was full of dry humor and some fun scenes to help balance.

Excellent as always! Your criticisms of this episode are spot on. The pieces just don’t fit neatly, and the pacing and mood feel off. But as you say, it’s not without its strengths and charms. I recall liking the portrayals of Coleman and Mrs Johnson quite a lot. And by the way, I love it every time you get off track! I enjoy every little insight. 😊

In any review of Dame Agatha adaptations you have to watch And Then There Where None (1945). I promise you'll love it.

I do love it! It's been a while since I last watched it, but the next time I do I'm sure I'll review it.

Just stumbled over your Videos and as someone who grew up with poirot too, it´s fun to see another take on this. You make same true points to this episode, but I still like it more than the "Evil under the Sun", maybe exept the ending. Never had a problem with the paceing, but the point that this woman does not recognicees her ex husband ist still crazy. Next point is the acting Ron Berglas is pretty terrible... Hastings is dumed down even more than usual, and in some Moments it feels like Hugh Fraser is realy annoyed by that. What I like, ist that they reduced that preachy Nurse charakter to a minimum. I realy hated her in the novel, not just a narrater but her look on the world and other people. As for the rest of the series. I personaly think, tere are some realy great episodes, but not in the way of an continueing of the "Series" more as adaptations of the novels. I read most of christies books at least once, and some are dark an hopeless - if you would insert humore in "Five Little Pigs", "Sad Cypress", "Mrs. McGinty's Dead" or, especialy "Taken at the Flood" it would just feel out of place. On the other hand there are episodes I realy relay don´t like - especialy this in name only "adaption" of "Appointment with Death" - wich is still one of my favorit novels... Even Suchet seams to have a bad time in that one und looks like he just wanted it to be over...
