    I am starting as a new graduate RN school Nurse! I was a support staff before working as a instructional assistant, PE assistant, Library Aid, office helper, and I quit to finish school in nursing. The reason I got hired as a new graduate it was because I had an good experience working in school with kids with special needs. Usually in my state they required 6 month of acute care. They realized that even with experience in hospital school nursing is a completely different gig. So the training is the same time as far as new grads or nurses with acute care experience. Your video is going to help me a lot on how to set up my office!❤️🥰

    Having grown up with type 1 diabetes since I was 9 and fascination with technology was part of why I went into nursing. Although my background is as a RN // EMT-B is in emergency medicine, I realize diabetes is a public health issue at all ages. One important thing to know is that if a diabetic person is hypoglycemic, they may be totally unaware of it, and only have odd or violent behavior & confusion as their only sign prior to having a hypoglycemic grand mal seizure. This needs to be taught to people, including the student, as a means of early detection so they can get quick acting glucose. Additionally, Glucagon often can make people vomit and turkey basters work well for sucking up secretions. Last, but not least, protect the person's dignity when they get sick from hypoglycemia. I have had multiple hypoglycemic seizures over the past 3 years and know this can save lives.

Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.

      It's my only video, I'll try to make another one in a month or so. Don't be afraid of the students with diabetes. Don't worry too much about the hyperglycemia, only the hypoglycemia. By teaching the students and teachers to recognize the signs of the student going low and having some orange juice handy, you'll do fine. I've had several students with diabetes, you'll be an expert before you know it.

    I love that you teach the children how to take care of their abrasions, etc. My only issue is the clean 4x4's next to an uncovered toilet. Every time the toilet is flushed whatever is in there becomes airborne and contaminates all nearby objects. You might want to re-think that setup.

    For your training was wondering if you keep old training from year to year for any reason that you have done with teachers. Also do you have any good resources of how to train teachers? Trying to get organized in my first year of school nursing.

      @christinemcfall6115 6 років тому +1

      Hi John,
      Our teachers get basic training on seizures, diabetes, asthma, food allergies... etc. APS (Albuquerque Public Schools) uses a program called Safe Schools." They also demonstrate they know how to use an epi-pen, and inhaler etc. prior to going on a field trip. Teachers are told all students need to have a pass to go to the health room, unless its an emergency (throwing up). We also let teachers know how best to communicate with me ( emails, passes).

    Excellent info! You mentioned honey for cough- what type of packaging and/or how do you dispense it?

    • @christinemcfall6115
      @christinemcfall6115 6 років тому

      Honey sticks are the easiest and most convenient, kids love them too. Unfortunately, they also cost the most. So, I usually just squirt honey on a plastic spoon. Once they lick the spoon clean, they throw it away. Honey packs (like from the restaurants) work too, but a little bit messy for kids.

    • @christinemcfall6897
      @christinemcfall6897  5 років тому

      squirt it on a spoon, those packets are messy. Wellness Momma is a good website, my favorite pediatrician recommended it. I have forwarded the information to parents. There are tons of practical suggestions and home remedies on the easy to read website.... including cough syrup with onions, sounds yucky, but, it's effective.

    HEY! I have a trivia question.
    Why are there STILL, in this equal rights day and age, more women nurses then men?
    SIMPLE.. because more men get sick BECAUSE OF WOMEN.
    I credit the classic TV series "Threes Company" for that nurse joke. My mom was a nurse for over 50 years and just retired at age 78. That joke still makes her grin.
    Just sharing.

    I had a bleeding leg and the nurse was too busy writing up my name and asking me where my classroom is at the moment. Mind you I was holding my hand so that Type B would not spill all over the place. She gave me an ice-bag and told me to hurry to my class. It was still bleeding and my legs and pants were covered in blood. It's nice to see actual facilities that work properly.

    Why do you need all that stuff if you only use ice packs?

    I wish y’all wouldn’t lie like this we all know a school nurse couldn’t help with a paper cut🤦‍♂️”here’s some ice don’t come back crying to me” is y’all’s catchphrase
