    I bought the Ibanez Edge III FU BIG BLOCK, Heavy Duty Silent Springs - RED, Brass Spring Claw and Brass Spring Claw Screws to change the guitar ones (Ibanez RG370DX with Egde 3 vibrato).
    I returned them after experiencing the following issues:
    First of all, I can no longer push the tremolo arm down because the tremolo block hits one of the cavity walls and thus limits its movement. The tremolo arm also has limited movement when lifting, also because the block hits the inner walls of the cavity. I can't even adjust the adjusting screw for tighten or loosen the arm rotation torque(this can only be done by pressing the tremolo arm all the way down, almost reaching the surface of the guitar). I think it's a mistake to design the block because some corners should have been rounded, as the original piece shows.
    Second, I did a test by recording the guitar before and after the new block was assembled. The result is irrelevant when it comes to improving the sound of the guitar(no sustain improvement: no major sound improvement, only about 10%).
    The "silent springs" are noisier than the Teflon ones of the guitar. You can hear the springs on the audio file "Ibanez after" at the begining and at 0 : 53.
    When I told Adam about these issues, he told me that all prototypes and hundreds of Edge 3 installs without this issue.
    I mention that the aspects I presented above were not detailed in any way either on the site or in this video.
    With this post I want to let you know my experience with these products and I just want other potential buyers to know before making a decision in this regard.

      you have a point, I was concerned you see no use of the whammy in this video , which is a main reason of having a whammy bar is to use it ,
      from another video

      this was said ''It's a special shape, so you'll have to get one that's specifically made for the Edge III trem. Other block shapes wont fit. As far as I know, there aren't sizes to choose from. The one in the video is bigger than the original though. When I bend the pitch down, the block hits one of the walls in the cavity. That's only a problem if you want to dive bomb. Hope that helps!'

    @ FU-TONE: I have a new (to me) RG 420 with an Edge 3 trem that I hardtailed. I was wondering if having a big or normal sized brass block would wear away the Edge 3's knife edges faster than normal. I haven't disassembled to check the knife edges yet, but was wondering about this because if it does make the knife edges more prone to wearing, then I may be better off leaving it hardtailed even after the block install. Thanks for all you do; looking forward to trying this thing out!

    • @FloydUpgrades
      @FloydUpgrades  5 років тому +1

      The brass block will not change the outcome of your knife edges. It will give you a ton more sustain, tone, warmth and clarity. I would set it with a brass trem stopper for dive only motion which will add even more TONE!

I upgraded all locking screws to stainless steel, new springs, and lubed the fulcrum posts. Tuning is MUCH better but still no where near an Edge or OFR. FU - TONE One more question: I’ll be getting the 7 string version of the block. I’m currently using 4 springs to keep the bridge level with the body when I am not using the tremolo, since I use a 10-46 set of strings, with a 59 for the low B. Would I be able to just use 3 springs with the same string gauge if I get one of your high tension noiseless spring sets, and which set of springs would you recommend for my setup?

    Whenever I use my edge three the bridge never returns to its original position. It either stays in place when I release the whammy bar or it moves a little but never returns to the original position so it always detunes in the middle of playing. Adjusting my springs hasn’t helped. Would the brass block fix my problem?

    • @EmmanuelB
      @EmmanuelB 4 роки тому

      The Edge III are cheap made. The knives are made with soft metal and will lose their sharpness quickly; that's the main issue with cheaper edge vibratos. In this case, it would cost you a bit, but you can have it replaced with an Edge Pro, wich is way better quality (not Lo-Pro Edge or Edge II, they won't fit).
      But first things first, just check its alignment. This vibrato has a very uncommon shape, and the top of the plate must not be parallel to the table, unlike every other floyd rose in existence. It must be parallel to the BOTTOM of the plate, wich can't be seen because it's inside the body. Total nonsense, wich makes it hard to properly adjust this vibrato.

When I bend it a bit forward (normal playing) and release, notes are a bit flat, when I bend it backwards and release notes are a bit sharp. Never goes exactly back to point zero. I just bought a second hand GIO GRG270b. It has an Edge 3 tremolo on it. The previous dude had fat gauge strings and low tuning. I am sure he swapped the tremolo springs on the back too and the rear plate that the springs hook onto was screwed right in tight to the body so theres no room for adjustment at all. The trems riding high, and it takes Arnold Schwarzeneger arms to move the tremolo unit. So Im swapping the trem springs from another guitar because they're a bit softer tension and easier to bend, while everything is off im unscrewing that screw-in plate thing so theres room to adjust in the future. I have regular 9/42 strings so Im hoping to get the springs set up so it sits flush when tuned up but I have a question...
    I need a replacement trem bar for the Edge 3. Is it the straight direct insert type bar that just pushes in, or does it have the ball like joint on the insert part of the trem that kind of snaps the bar into a socket?

    The most annoying thing with this tremolo is the whole "level the base plate" Issue. Cause the base plate already has an angle to it slightly downwards which makes it inceribly hard to avtually level. In contrast to most other tremolos where the base plate can actually be leveled by just eyebaling it to the guitar boyds top. you cant really do that here with the edge 3. a nightmare.

    the trem bar socket on EDGE III is made of PLASTIC, that means its not made for any kind of durability, its a cheap and silly design flaw. There's also a 3rd Allen head screw right on the bottom of the term arm cavity where that plastic sleeve sits that has a small cone shaped spring and that allows you to set how high or low you want your trem arm to sit in that cavity.

    What exactly does the bigger block do? I am a little new to this, and I have a lot of trouble keeping my Edge 3 in tune. Will this help?

      bluezedd Thanks, I found out what was causing my problems. I busted the knife edges. Looks like I gotta file them down now.
