  • Join the CinePI Movement: Build Your Own Cinema Camera with Raspberry Pi and Open Source Software! We're looking for all kinds of developers ( C/C++ / OpenGL / Web ) #jointhemovement
    In this video, we showcase footage captured by our latest prototype camera design, featuring a cutting-edge STARVIS 2 sensor (IMX585) from Sony, built on the new Raspberry Pi 5 platform. This project represents over a year of development and collaboration within the vibrant CinePI community. It’s been incredible to see the diverse builds and adaptations of the open-source cinema camera concept, each one a unique interpretation.
    Special thanks to @Will_Whang, Kieran Bingham, and Naushir from Raspberry Pi for their invaluable contributions to the CinePI project, enabling the use of advanced image sensors and new functionalities.
    Footage was shot in a variety of frames rates ( 24, 30, 48, 60 ) in both 12-bit lossless compressed and 16-bit uncompressed CinemaDNG RAW at 4K resolution; directly to CFExpress Type B media.
    Footage was shot handheld with an image-stabilized Canon 17-55mm lens and a Metabones speedbooster adapted to a native Micro Four Thirds mount.
    Edited and color graded in DaVinci Resolve 19 Beta (4K timeline, exported in 8K).
    Shot and Edited by ‪@schoolpost2009‬
    We're looking to partner with those that can help bring this concept to the masses.

    It's so much better than I've ever hoped it to be. I've been following developments on the project ever since the old golf video was mentioned in an article (probably even before the discord was created, let alone have I joined it) while searching for a truly modular camera. I have some ideas about that too. I love how it can be a 16bit BMPCC OG (I still use it and it produces great images, but it's such a fragile camera I had to basically fix and rebuild). I can't wait to make one myself in the future!

    It's fantastic that the Cinepi team is going to revolutionize open-source filmmaking. However, I need to know if there is any microphone input in this build.

    Impressive ! Its always exciting when seeing new products developing esp. with a community . Q: the camera module, was this a special request or is it readily available retail/online ?

    It's incredible ! Knowing the write bottleneck when it comes to PCIe x1 gen3, 60fps Raw is pure magic! Congratulations to the CinePi team! Do you think there is a way to frame sync multiple CinePi+IMX585 ?

      @cinepicamera  Місяць тому +3

      Don't quote us on this, but I believe this is a capability of the sensor yes. ( not sure how many, but I believe it can sync 2 at least )

    Question: Do I need to be a Patreon member to get acess to the BOM and STL files?

      Nope, patreon is just a way to provide extra support if you found the project useful or just want to help out. Join to discord, that's where you find the most up to date discussion on most things.

      There will be more footage shared here on youtube with some side by side, graded and ungraded. There is quite a bit of latitude to play with in a 16-bit RAW file.

    Wow just Wow. This is exactly what I was wanting to see happen with the RasPi as a Camera System.. Truly Amazing!!!
    If you know, how high can a camera go on the HDMI Output of the Pi for Live work? Can the Camera to Pi to Live HDMI out go above the old RaspiVid 8 bit 1080p30fps?
    I want to use it for Live work, obviously, heheh, currently I use a RasPi HQ HDMI out to PC Capture.(4k 10 bit is the highest my capture card goes but I am capped at 1080p30 8bit)
    If the HDMI out could go to 4k 10bit or higher I could see using something like the Atomos or other Recorders.

    mmm that sensor looks good
    wonder if this is the 4 lanes available thing regarding 4K raw
    8K holy s wonder it's not upscaled

    • @cinepicamera
      @cinepicamera  Місяць тому +4

      This is upscaled to 8K at export ( mentioned in the description ), this is to take advantage of the superior bitrate and codec ( AV1 ) that UA-cam uses with content at that resolution.

      @@cinepicameraif you want the best bitrate i highly recommend HDR. Even at 480p HDR it looks crisp

    Excellent idea!
    Blacks are lacking a little? Too much ETTR?

    • @cinepicamera
      @cinepicamera  Місяць тому +3

      Dialing in the color science and optimizing the dynamic range on the sensor is still very much a process we are dialing in.
      There are two modes for the sensor, one is 12-bit and the other is a 16-bit ClearHDR as Sony calls it, which is Dual Gain Output ( like Arri sensors / fairchild sensors used in Blackmagic ) it's this mode that has quite a bit of configurability and some further tuning. Most of the footage shown in this video is from the standard 12-bit mode.
