I am an ironworker in the states and have put many beams in places they had no earthly business going. Its not easy and you have to get creative. I am impressed. Using the equipment and people you had that was no small task. Congratulations and well done.
Another incredibly beautiful video. Congratulations on getting the ridge beam up. The other two roof beams are called purlins. I hope it warms up a little for you and your homestead animals. Have a great week and God bless!
The videography is absolutely inspired and 1st class...You two are an inspiration. The couple that winches together , pulls together ...and builds a beautiful life together....Your children will forever be grateful their parents documented the building of their homestead...it’s a beautiful gift.❤️🇨🇦
hi guys, new subscriber from virginia....LOVE watching you guys work, it is calming and motivating. i was raised in nh, so do know about how cold life is, but prefer southern warmth now. i came on to tell you a few words you wondered about. i bet your english is better than my swedish, HA! ok, so the little addition of the house, is just called a porch. but in cold climes, we call it a mud room. there is even mud room furniture made specifically. ethan allen copied some of it. now, on the timbering thing, the hollow and hump feature you describe here is commonly called tongue in groove. but usually done for floors and walls and such. i think your timbering practice of doing it in roof is superb and will last VERY long. and when you use pegs and holes to construct, that is called mortise and tenon. i hope this helps you understand our vernacular, as you have helped mine of your culture. best in all endeavors, keep up the good work. congrats on the new baaby. ;) dani
I recently found these Vlogs. I see I have many more to enjoy. I’m building quite a permaculture system of my own in the Lake Superior region, USA. I have struggled with mystery, vector borne ailments but I am managing through the fatigue. I know how much strength it takes to overcome ailments and keep providing for oneself. Thanks for sharing and inspiring.
Such a huge project for what tools and such you have available. Everything you do it seems that you have been up to the task. Great work! Thank you for sharing!
It matters not how long it took to get this far in the build. The beauty of doing it the way you are is you don’t have banks, speculators, corporate building companies leaning on you to get the house built so they can get the income from selling or renting.Your way allows for adjusting your energies to your life. One thing you might do, a tradition when you have reached a certain height, is to nail a small tree or branch to the top.It will reward you with the pleasure of seeing how far you’ve come.I think it is called ‘topping off’ or ‘out’, in English.
WOW....the ridge beam in place! Congratulations! Might be a “little early” to move in. Two years to do what you two have done mostly by yourselves, pat each other on the back, nicely done. Is all the snow going to cause a water problem when it starts melting? Again congratulation, the ridge is a big...HUGE step. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! In my mind i have already decorated and moved in ;) We haven't had this much snow in years but yes, i believe it will be a muddy and wet spring when it starts to melt, hopefully it will melt step by step and not all at once! /Tova
Thank you so much, your comments make me real happy! That is something we have to think about, thank you for the encouragement! Have a great day! /Tova
Love the house and "style". Just have a "problem" w/COLD. Guess I'm just getting old, 20 yrs. ago I did much the same. More power to ya'll, warm is easier.(Longer "growing" season).

That was great. You guys made that look easy. I can't wait to keep watching and see the final results. You will have a beautiful cabin with a nice little "addition."

Mathias, wood your wood working skills, have you ever thought about making and selling Swedish butter knives. On Swedish Homestead channel Simeon’s dad made some to give away on a subscriber giveaway. If you do, do it. I’d be honored to buy the first. Just a thought 💭
We have had some thought about making things and sell them on our webpage. Mathias has his woodworking and I have my tanned sheepskins, we will have to think about it, how to best approach it :)
Haha, You get used to it, we have a dry kind of cold so even if its minus 25 celsius it feels better than the minus 5 at the coast. Im not sure, but maybe it was the episode where my cousins boyfriends parents visited us from Australia, they had also never been in winter-sweden before so they were in some kind of amazed state :D /Tova
Our experience with Rabbit breading is to place the female into the males cage. If you do it the other way he is more interested in checking out the new cage, than in breeding🇨🇦good luck
I hope you don't continue to worry about how long it took you to get to this point, to get the house finished etc. If people are pressuring you to get it dont listen you do it in your own time
I got this film late in the game...i had a vision for this stuffing foliage into wall gap... Goes like this - make a strap bag for unsulation..slung over shoulder/neck- sit astride beam, scooting down as you stuff..in one hand holding a board to block one side of gap, with the other hand stuffing fully the gap..going quick all the length..then back from opposite side to fatten...🐐I call it stuff & ram🐐
Liked the video a lot! What's the story on the house? Maybe missed it on earlier videos, it seems to me, seeing all those tags on the beams, that the house has been taken apart completely and so build up again? Moved it from another place maybe? And so made the loft a good bit higher, hence the new beams. Awesome job and you look very skilled on the work with the tripod. I'm not a person who gets squimish about heigths but seeing you guys balancing with those weigths made me a bit dizzy already! Well done job. Grattis! Morsomt å se hønnene gå på tur. Fin kamera over det hele, fin montage. Takk.
Thank you! I don't know if we have talked about the houses history, but its an old house from a neighbour village, the tags are our own, the first ones didn't keep the ink so we had to re do the whole marking process after some rainy days :) The cabin were situated on and old farm where all the other buildings have been removed to other places, now its just an old dirt cellar left at the place and i wish we could bring that too, its beautiful! Thank you for watching och ha en fortsatt morsom dag! :D /Tova
Bye the way , if you can build a house and live what's school all about? (Appreciation of the Arts? Religious appreciation? or just Fun?). Fun is our Friend!
I love it when Mathias says " So much people", the look on his face.. I can almost appreciate. :-)
I am an ironworker in the states and have put many beams in places they had no earthly business going. Its not easy and you have to get creative. I am impressed. Using the equipment and people you had that was no small task. Congratulations and well done.
Thank you so much for your kind words :D
Can you imagine what your children and grandchildren are going to say about the house you two have built? Wow that's a beautiful home!!
The timing of the soundtrack and when the ridge beam drop into place (@19:10) - brilliant!
Its coming together! So much pride felt in hand made projects.
The opening shot of Tova looks like a scene from a 'Scandi Noir' movie :) Top quality filming throughout...
Thank you so much! 😊
Your children’s children’s children will enjoy your home way beyond our moment in time. Great job, great video
Good job, unbelievable to do all that without machines or large group of people!
I also enjoy the soundtrack 👌
I love the views of chickens from their level, instead of looking down from human perspective. Cool!
Another incredibly beautiful video. Congratulations on getting the ridge beam up. The other two roof beams are called purlins. I hope it warms up a little for you and your homestead animals. Have a great week and God bless!
Thank you! The last week have been a little better, still minus 10 at night but they say it will be plus degrees at night to in the end of the week :)

You are so real. 🙏🏻🇮🇳
I've been wondering how I will lift my roof trusses with a chain hoist. Now I see a tripod will work for sure. Thanks for the idea :)
We dont get snow like that here in Australia, I shiver just watching you. Did I hear you mention Australia to your helper?
Haha, You get used to it, we have a dry kind of cold so even if its minus 25 celsius it feels better than the minus 5 at the coast. Yes, that seems correct, also she is more aggressive and wants to protect her home if he comes to her 😊 /Tova
Såg svårt ut med trefoten! Men ni fick upp den! Då är det bara att slänga på lite tak! :)
Lätt :D
I hope you don't continue to worry about how long it took you to get to this point, to get the house finished etc. If people are pressuring you to get it dont listen you do it in your own time
Your rabbits have Finnish names ☺️ greetings from northern Finland.

Oh, I should've watch the video to the finish!
About the rabbits... Are you putting her into his cage. She might be more agreeable. Female rabbits can be territorial about their spaces.
Yes, we put the females in the male cage or in a neutral cage if we have one :)
Why in the world you have estonian or finish name on your rabits, curious from NORWAY
Mathias are from Finland 😊
