Ravel wrote this Concerto several years after Gershwin wrote Rapsody in Blue and American in Paris. IMO the similarities in style and orchestration are more than pure coincidence. Are they not?
I feel like he understands the first movement especially more than a lot of other pianists, his piano part has a sense of rhythm I don't hear often. it's a pity it feels like he does have a little bit of trouble coming together with the orchestra sometimes
Tempo coordination: the orchestra needed more practice in the third movement. It seemed LD wanted a little slower tempo in the first movement, but in general he played it as a piece of chamber music, crisp and very attentive to the conductor. If your eyes are dry, blame yourself. ❤️❤️❤️
Why is it that pianists always slow down at the first solo ( 55 in this performance)? Ravel doesn't instruct the pianist to do so, but THIS guy practically brings it to a stop. It's absurdly self- indulgent.
mov.1 Allegramente 0:06
mov.2 Adagio assai 9:16
mov.3 Presto 18:25

I started piano at age 20, and this guy is my personal piano hero.
I am just now discovering Lucas. What a lovely and prodigious talent!
beautiful... the second movement... the piano flies away in solitude... one of the best performances for sure...
Lucas breathes new life into this music, like hearing it for the first time. Quite marvelous.
a wonderful performance! Thank You!
Love it. Just discovered Lucas. A big fan.
I love this man ❤️
profundo, con poderoso sonido. He redescubierto un bellisimo concierto en la vision de Debarque.
Fantastic!

Flex, thats true, when Gershwin asked ravel to teach him, ravel refused saying that Gershwin would loose his style... he was a interesting man, ravel.
Thanks for the post.
