Martha Agerich recorded this magnificent piece with Claudio Abbado and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra many years ago on DGG. The recording was awarded the Grand Prix du Disc while available in the vinyl only days. I believe this recording is now available on digital platforms nowadays and it is well worth seeking out. A truly remarkable work.
@@patpao6933Almost every time I read a comment where someone says they think a particular pianist is the best at playing a certain piece, there is someone responding with "no, Michelangeli is better" That guy's got a hell of a fan club. I'm going to get a bunch of Martha Argarich fans to stalk the comments section of Michelangeli videos and when everyone is writing that he is the best,we are all going to write " you're crazy, Martha Argarich plays this piece much better".
For me, the 2nd movement of this concerto by Ravel is just exquisite-one of the most beautiful pieces in the entire classical music canon. It’s one of those pieces that has personal significance in my life as well. Bravi Mme. Argerich and Maestro Dutoit.
Nice performance and interpretation. This piece is of blood and so loved. It makes me know and feel that it is ok to go .. to the next place. Sounds are so soothing when there is harmony. Mom proved it to all of us without doing, saying .. just being comforting and supporting to all. goodnight
Yes, ALL perfomers play a concerto from memory (although I was shocked to see Yuja Wang on a video her using an Ipad for Ravel's Left Hand Concerto and Bartok's 2nd. Very unusual. All pianists on that level have dozens of concerti in their memory.
@Peter the NWO Rabbit Yes, I agree. I was responding to the surprised reactions here from some viewers who expected to see sheet music on the piano stand. I don't even TRY to memorize a piece. After working on it for weeks or months, you automatically memorize.
I remember that concert come on TV and I was so hypnotised by Martha that I couldn't leave for MY concert and almost missed it.
Wow haha
Nice story. You almost missed your own concert, not so many people can say that

I have the laserdisc of this video, but now I have no way to play it, so thank God!
Can't believe it takes almost 1:30 for the video to show Argerich at the keyboard. Very strange.
It's beautiful beyond description but I remember Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli and Celibidache ...
She will always be among the greatest pianists. From her master Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli she has learned what it takes to be a great interpret.

All concerto performers play from memory. How can you NOT memorize it? Takes months of practice to learn a concerto. It's no surprise.

Brahms intermezzo 118 2
