Thanks for the video! I also have an NP5 and was curious about the leap to the NZ700. As tempting as it is, I will probably wait another generation for even more improvements.
Hi Tony, didn't comment for a long time, but I have a question. I know they are far from in the same ballpark, but how would you compare the Valerion Pro2 with the NZ700? I backed Valerion and went for the MAX, therfor I hope the dynamic iris will improve further on the pro2. The contrast on the JVS is relay something else :)
I have the Pro2 and the only thing it probably beats the NZ700 in is overall brightness. The Pro2 is like a light cannon. The Max is going to be great but we have to remember we are looking at a DLP vs DILA and JVC in my opinion has the best chips for black levels. The Pro2 does have insane black levels for the price and DLP probably the best single chip DLP black levels ever.
Considering 100" LED TV displays are selling for, what, $2,000 USD! Projector manufacturers are going to need to find ways to push high quality projectors down to reasonable prices. At some point I will want to upgrade my Epson 5040 (aka TW9300). A big 120" TV might be the best quality display for the money at that time, but I would greatly miss having my speakers behind the screen. Hopefully there are strong projector options available at that time.

No colour filter for the demos - I personally don't think it's needed and you lose too much brightness at the expense of 1-2 seconds of footage which may benefit from it.

Great review Tony! This model is very appealing also due to the shorter throw distance. This allows users to achieve a much larger screen in smaller rooms.
I had to send the JVC back before I even published the video so it wasn't possible to compare them. Off hand I will say that the Pro2 is a great projector, and certainly punches way above it's weight and pricepoint. JVC overall is better, but if you dont have the budget the Pro2 is a killer option.
Would be great to do a dual JVC NZ700 through a Lumagen Radiance Pro for the dynamic tone mapping, whilst offering improvement in the audio, which can accommodate two projectors via the HDMI up to 4K60. I wondered if running two NZ700's at 60-75% laser power whether that would enable 30000 hours from the laser life of the two projectors up from the 20000 hours from full brightness?
I run my NP5 in low lamp mode being tonemapped in SDR through madvr and im getting 110 nits so i would say you will extend the life of the laser as well if running at 60% laser. Depends on throw distance and screen size as you could just get 1 NZ800 and probably get the same result. NZ800 feels like another level above the NZ700. But... for what it is the NZ700 is the King of that pricepoint in my opinion.

Great review. I spent a week with an NZ700 and, from a modest home screen size (9 feet wide), I'd say it compares extremely favourably with the much (*much*) more expensive NZ900. The lack of 3D on the 700, however, is most unfortunate and seems petty & unnecessary on JVC's part. 2300 ansi lumens and using 100% to view in HDR at 120 inch screen for $8500. That's a hard sell. Insted I'd buy epson qb1000 for 7-8k which has 3300 lumins. I'll take a hit in black level to get a bright image and has enough light output to experience HDR.

@BuildMontage Then my apologies. Perhaps I did you wrong by mistaking your enthusiasm combined with maybe following a script. In the market for an 800, upgrading from an RS2000. Opinion on the jump there?
Oh I absolutely follow a script - that I write myself! - I like to keep my videos on point and I am not able to deliver an adhoc presentation with all of that detail off the dome! NZ800 is incredible. I did an "adhoc" video on the NZ800 with my friend leo - again not sponsored: ua-cam.com/video/2OfcgumVp_w/v-deo.html
No 3D=> no update! I have a NP5 and I wait for the next generation. Hopefully with 3D, RGB Laser and more light. Will see what the new RGB laser projector delivers in the next few years.
It's more than an upsell, I think it's a better result than the NZ7 however they are innovating into a new chassis design, new DILA chips as well - I think if you are after the bells and whistles you go for the NZ800 or 900 but they are super pricey.
Hmm… I don’t necessarily agree with that. I like Sony as well. Gtz380 is probably my favourite projector, but it’s out of my personal reach so JVC especially with black levels is unrivaled. Sony can’t even come close to the contrast levels and for me that’s super important.
True I haven’t seen the new line up in person but I have seen the specs, and jvc black levels for me #1. Hope to get a look at the new Sonys very soon!
I can't really tell the difference and also now I use a video processor in SDR mode so I prefer that way to tone map over the DTM in JVC. I have the Np5 so I can't really say it's "better" but it does have some QoL features like laser etc which do make it attractive.

Insted I'd buy epson qb1000 for 7-8k which has 3300 lumins. I'll take a hit in black level to get a bright image and has enough light output to experience HDR.
Black levels arent as important to everyone. For me personally super important.
I guess I need to go to the tesla robot and sell my whole body to afford this
Don't do that!
Nnnnooooo Tony. 😂😂😂
No 3D I just won’t buy any projector without it. It’s a shame they don’t give the gamut of every content available. Other than that it’s awesome 👍👍
Yeah I am converted to 3D now :(
Personally I was super excited for this release, I had been waiting for the nz500 and nz700 to see what upgrades there would be. But unfortunately they removed 3d, and to me at least the upgrade from the nz7 to nz700 was so minimal that I opted to just grab an nz7 for $7000 tax included. Definitely happier with that, love the black levels🎉
Nz7 is great!
Couldn't sound more like an ad...
Well.. it wasn't - I received no money or products for the video, I reviewed it as I saw it. Great projector- wish it had 3D and 8K though.
@@BuildMontage all fair and thanks. Will check it out!
No 3D=> no update! I have a NP5 and I wait for the next generation. Hopefully with 3D, RGB Laser and more light.
Will see what the new RGB laser projector delivers in the next few years.
Lack for 3D is a little disappointing but they had to make some choices for this price/form factor.
No 3D support is wild lol. Just an upsell
It's more than an upsell, I think it's a better result than the NZ7 however they are innovating into a new chassis design, new DILA chips as well - I think if you are after the bells and whistles you go for the NZ800 or 900 but they are super pricey.
Did they upgrade/fix the TERRIBLE JVC remote? By far the weakest part of JVC are their remotes. Clunky, non-intuitive, etc. Meh....
Unfortunately not
@ you know people at JVC. Put the bug in their ear :)
@TorinTPG I did 😜
@ my harmony is awesome, but just too many menus and things I don’t want to program. Oh well…at least that’s the only bad thing

New Sonys are better.
Better in which area? Definitely not contrast. Not even close!
Jvc lens are not very good. The processor is way better on the Sony
Hmm… I don’t necessarily agree with that. I like Sony as well. Gtz380 is probably my favourite projector, but it’s out of my personal reach so JVC especially with black levels is unrivaled. Sony can’t even come close to the contrast levels and for me that’s super important.
You haven’t seen the new Sony lineup the picture is just superior. Jvc quality not very good. I had one a few years ago nothing but warranty claims
True I haven’t seen the new line up in person but I have seen the specs, and jvc black levels for me #1. Hope to get a look at the new Sonys very soon!
Do you think the Frame Adapt 2.0 is a noticeable improvement? I’ve seen the NP5 and thought it already looked great so I’m just curious
I can't really tell the difference and also now I use a video processor in SDR mode so I prefer that way to tone map over the DTM in JVC. I have the Np5 so I can't really say it's "better" but it does have some QoL features like laser etc which do make it attractive.
