- In Kerala's Wayanad hills, lives a man named Govindan, who still practices the centuries-old archery that his forefathers once used for hunting. Back then it was a part of life but now he only used his skills for teaching the young ones. When I met him, I got to understand a little bit about the relationship of his indigenous community (kuruma) with nature.

Yeah I used to reject my parents n elder family members cultural n religious ideas without even giving a thought about it. only in the recent times I start to wonder why such ideas came up and what made them to derive those ideas. Leaving up some superstitions many other ideas were really helpful.

The Kurumbas and Kurichyas were very integral in fighting against the East India Company, They assisted Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja during his exile in Wayanad and conducted guerilla warfare against the Company.

"A person practicing ancient selfmade archery which he learnt from his ancestors...", Now my hopes have doubled that I'm sure one day I would find some one who would still have knowledge about our great ancient weapons like we read in our Holy Scriptures like Mahabharat, Ramayan and others.

Amazing ancient knowledge exists in many small communities around the world. There is so much to learn from them. Hopefully this knowledge is documented and not lost.
The Govt must help him establish an Archery Range and allow Tourists and Locals to come and Train under him for Scholarship Programme and maybe even something like a 1 Week Survival Camp in the Forest.
