- Evening is a deeply emotional film that illuminates the timeless love which binds mother and daughter -- seen through the prism of one mother's life as it crests with optimism, navigates a turning point, and ebbs to its close. Two pairs of real-life mothers and daughters -- Vanessa Redgrave and Natasha Richardson, and Meryl Streep and Mamie Gummer -- portray, respectively, a mother and her daughter and the mother's best friend at different stages in life.
Overcome by the power of memory, Ann Lord (Ms. Redgrave) reveals a long-held secret to her concerned daughters; Constance (Ms. Richardson), a content wife and mother, and Nina (Toni Collette), a restless single woman. Both are bedside when Ann calls out for the man she loved more than any other.
But who is this "Harris," wonder her daughters, and what is he to our mother? While Constance and Nina try to take stock of Ann's life and their own lives, their mother is tended to by a night nurse (Eileen Atkins) as she journeys in her mind back to a summer weekend some fifty years ago, when she was Ann Grant (Claire Danes)...
...a young woman who has come from New York City to be maid of honor at the high-society Newport wedding of her dearest friend from college, Lila Wittenborn (Ms. Gummer). The bride-to-be is jittery, and turns to her maid of honor rather than her own mother (Glenn Close) for support. Ann stays close to her friend, yet is even closer to Lila's irrepressible brother Buddy (Hugh Dancy).
Unexpected feelings surge forth once Ann meets wedding guest Harris Arden (Patrick Wilson), a lifelong friend and intimate of the Wittenborn family. Ann's love for Harris will change her life, and those of her daughters, forever.
When Hugh jumped off that cliff all I thought was “not again”
LMAOOO
LMAO
Exacto !!! Me dije : no puede ser que me rompa el corazón de nuevo , de la misma manera en otra película!
I think that guy Hugh has put me under a powerful spell from which I'm trying to stave off.
I thought the writing style for the book was awful, so I'm so glad they made a movie for it. I just saw it last night, and it was great. Not the happiest of movies, but it really showed the depth of the character of Ann, how there was this whole part of her life her daughters knew nothing about.
just finished the book and,same
Hugh Dancy and Clare Danes are married in real life. No joke.
@bonesaddict94 dido white flag
It's so lovely to see Claire Danes and Hugh Dancy play in this movie together.
“You’re mother had a whole life……We can’t know everything she did.” Something every child needs to remember.
Never understood why Harris was so "irresistible". He was like a dead fish compared to Buddy.
I thought exactly the same
Meryl Streep's daughter plays the younger version of Meryl Streep's character. I really should watch this movie.
same
I think this film didnt do so well because ultimately the american audience is one that wants to be swept away by a great love story or a love story that is ultimately tragic (titanic, the notebook etc). Evening really doesnt give us a dramatic ending or an over the moon romantic conclusion it simply gives us an END. The novel by Susan Minot expresses incredibly nihilistic views and the films purpose is to open a view to a not so common perspective on life and its meaning. It is a masterpiece.
OK, now I want to watch it.
@@NatalliaTyshchanka oh please do! I'd love to hear what you think
I complete agree.
What if you and I just sang and laughed together for the rest of our lives?
I love Buddy
i played nina in this movie im in the trailer at the end!!!!!!!!!
Patrick Wilson does it for me.
I revisit the book and the movie all the time. Hell the trailer even brings me to tears. Meryl Streeps' character I think is the voice of the book. "In the end so much of it turns out not to matter." If that line alone looking back on the film as you've seen it to its conclusion doesn't shake you I don't know what to say! I agree this film is one of those treasures
Gabriel revejo o trailer vou as lágrimas a música e toque cena primoroso.
I’m crying now because it’s one of my top 10 favorite films. It’s sensibility and gentle but solid messages touch my heart and remind me of how fragile and precious life truly is. If only we remembered that our youth will end and so will this life. We must take chances and risks in order to find true joy and happiness. I’m glad you get it.
You clearly have so much depth to you. Rare these days I feel. Bless you.
Rest in Peace dear natasha. I remember you best in this movie, its one of my favorites. You were such an amazing actress whether you were on screen or on stage. I hope you have a special place in heaven waiting for you.
patrick wilson... :)
Favourite line of all time: "We can't know everything she did......we are mysterious creatures aren't we?"
As an American who enjoys things that are unique and different from the mainstream expectation, I think this movie is a true gem.
YES
One of my favorite movies ever
theres a book originally !
I just finished watching "Terms of Endearment " and the sequal to it "Evening Star". Also a gem. They don't make movies like them anymore. It's what I call dramedy. It's funny with some drama in it. Only 120 views and I am the only one that made a comment. Did anyone ever hear of those movies. Boy how time flies.
Great films I agree I enjoyed evening Star more though I think it was the patsy rivalry classic
Mamie Gummer was amazing in this movie. Truely a great actress. Way to go mamie!:)
whats the instrumental song from 1:14 - 2:07 ?
been trying to find it for years
+Wandering Weirdly x ray dog- the journey

Verdade e Vanessa sempre perfeita em cena
i love this movie to pieces.
then u’ll like the original book too
Eileen Atkins is wearing such a beautiful gown! Does anyone have a full length shot of it? It's the most beautiful dress I've seen!
Such a powerful film. I loved every minute of it. Amazing. :)
Mother and daughter on the screen! love it!!!
galera to a décadas tentando assistir este filme
alguém poderia me informar um site para eu ver???bgd
wat is the title of musics used in this trailer??other than "white flag"
Claire Danes is really such an underrated actress
When I see that type of acting in that movie and what's being shown today its really a petty
i disagree with you greatly. susan minot portrays ann lord through words just as greatly as michael cunningham did in visuals. i got great inspiration from this movie/book for the storyline of my book that i'm currently writing.
This movie sounds great but I really hate trailers that give away too much information. Bad, bad, bad.
Actually, Hugh Dancy isn't gay in this. At least, I'm pretty sure. I could be wrong though...
Outstanding trailer and movie 👍👍
Yes, I guess everyone has their own opinions on writing style. I had a problem with the "he said, she said, they said." It seems like every line ended with "said," which I found incredibly distracting. Of course, I was reading this book aloud to my mother who also found it clunky, but sometimes reading aloud can skew things a bit. Anyhow, it was a best seller, so I'm possibly in the minority here. I'm writing a book as well, so I wish you the best in your writing.
samee
The trailer is AMAZING!! I like it so much.. i can watch it again and again.. but the movie is simply CRAP!!! Horrible, slow, nothing happen... such a big deception... anyway I keep loving the trailer :)
I haven't watched the film but the book was so moving. I bet the movie doesn't touch the depths of the book.
i agree that the "he said, she said, they said" was a bit fifth grader, but the way she describes everything, people, ann's surrounding and how she talks is just genius. there was no better way in my opinion. especially how she introduces harris arden as the "sunglasses man" for a hint of mystery in his character and things to come.
Hi can anyone tell me what the music is ? this is the same music that was used in " The secret Video ? thanks
I’m here in 2021
Why was this trailer so much better than the actual film?
the original book was awful-
Everyone who watched this movie, check out a song 1,000 Years by The Gaslight Anthem, it's like it was based on this story.
This movie killed me, and I'm sure I won't ever be able to forget it. Mindwracking, but beautiful.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! am watching it again on cable....killer cast! meryl and mamie gummer in the same movie!!! i loved this story, and will someone please admit that hugh dancy is one of the most amazing actors working today [and he's hot]...check out the movie 'adam', and he's so good in this, also. critics are mostly morons...this has 27% positive reviews status on rotten tomatoes??? its so good!
then u’ll like the original book
a beautiful and devastating films, there was several times i cried my eyes out! especially that bit at 1:44!
@CalikarD he's not, he's in love with Claire Dane's character
That old actress is similar to Rose as old and the Claire Danes's character is similar to Rose as young, I mean, in the movie "Titanic" too the main female character as old had told her love story she lived when she was young💕💕💕💕Jack Dawson💖💖💖💖
i love hugh dancy & natasha richardson...
RIP
Details of the refund process and anticipated steps

Thats my brother house in the opening scene.
"And fight at the same time," added the Wizard.
It's great film :)
Just watching this trailer gave me goosebumps, I have to see this movie! ♥️
theres also a book
what's the name of the song at the ending???
Dido - white flag
what song is playing during the trailor? i love it!!
The vocal is White Flag, by Dido
if you /really/ want to read an excellent book with thought to it, read mrs. dalloway by virginia woolf, she's my fav author although i'm not big in reading---it must put an impression on me somehow before i read. anyways, she's excellent and the way she writes is a bit confusing, but you'll figure it out. she puts great depth in the characters in that book, moreso than susan minot in evening.
I haven't seen this movie since it came out. So I forgot what happened to Harris. Why didn't they end up together?
This movie wrecks me every time. The note buddy carried 😢
this movie screams estrogen! Toni! Meryl! Glen! Clair! Natasha! How did they do it? How sad if it's bad. It makes me very excited

Couldn't agree with you more
How ironic, most out of focus trailer, by Focus
Best comment!
i agree..
Too Beautiful ❣❤️❣
Very Good movie - and a slight brag
I got to see Natasha and Venessa to gather in 1985 live west end show
Chekhov “ The Seagall” with Jonathan Pryce.
First time they ever appeared live on stage to-gather
Friends didn’t want to see that and went to something else , the music man or something.
But I knew this was a once in a life time event and it was and sooo glad I got to see these 2 legendary actresses together live!
SeagUll
the movie is great!!!
😘
what's the song that starts at 2:09?
That song is White Flag by Dido
The worst movie I've ever seen
Claire Danes is not beautiful at all. It spoils the impression of the film!
What are yout talking about? She is super beautiful ❤
I love this movie 💖
