I played the mode and had a lot of fun. Not having to deal with arty and TDs camping at the back was one of the best parts of the mode. It is actually possible to push and make plays if you don't have 3 triangles sitting on the redline aiming down 1 corridor for the entirety of the game.
I think this mode helps illustrate the drawbacks and design issues inherent to light tank and tank destroyer gameplay. Light tanks depend on other players to make mistakes and then more players to deal the damage, tank destroyers depend on other players to do the spotting of those other players making mistakes. A system like that doesn't work if the enemies aren't going to makes mistakes or have room to make plays in areas not vulnerable to those classes. And arty is just a cancer class with cancer tactics that I'm glad has effectively removed from competitive public modes.
@@jeremyzabel2923 It's pretty sad with the lights though, some are still decent like ebr, but rest are dogs hit because of WG light rework, before lights were really strong in their tier (as a strong glass canon) and had +3 tier mm, now they just made lights weak af in their own tier except for ebr tier 10 and 8 premium. For example if the tier 10 amx light had a clip that is slightly better or as good at least as BC it would be used more, jnstead its pure assist, or if manticore had the dpm of an S conqueror it would be usable instead it has 0 dpm+no ammo and all the HP and armor drawbacks of being a light. But then again noobs would get deleted in randoms by good players using bushes etc and the strong guns that lights would have to make up for their hp and 0 armor, resulting in a cancerous experience for casuals..
@@mrmeepsmeeperson770 You are right. LTs needs some dpm or alfa dmg boost and also they should make heavytanks viewrange like 370-380 max (without EQ and crew skills). That would make LTs have more impact in the game and make heavytanks less meta, atleast little bit.
Same, in the lower tiers of the gamemode, you were able to see a lot of different tanks. Even though you dont have the perfect tank for the map, you can switch to a better opportunity. But I guess that that isn't the same for the higher tiers and it got very repeatable after a while.
It wouldn't work in randoms though, if you get prokhorovka you would just get like 12 people swapping to campy TD's and it would just destroy the game.
@@warkus123 nevertheless this map suxx for every other class tbh, except from scouts. So changing the tank for a specific map would be so much more enjoyable. Or at least take 3 tanks into the battle and then decide which one you take for the map you spawn at!
I really enjoyed it, same as the Brawl mode a few years ago. Don’t normally perform that well in Teir 10, but in this mode i did quite well. Less players mean you only get caught in crossfire if the enemy is set up right, and it allowed me to do some of the ballsy moves that just don’t work in 15v15. Had some really good comebacks, and the teamplay felt really good when it worked.
One of the better mods that wg introduced this year, it was a great way to grind tier X field modifications without loseing raiting 😄 And get some bonds.
Onslaught was great for highlighting how unbalanced a lot of tanks are. The other problem with ranked modes like this is they are still fundamentally pay to win. You have to shoot gold, you have to run rations, you have to have bounty or bond equipment, and so on. A true ranked mode would have no cost for ammo or rations, no repair fees, all equipment normalized to either bond level or base level equipment, and balanced tanks. This mode offered none of those.
There should be rewards for such a game mode to make people try it to begin with. If they are behind a too big grind wall, many won't bother while other will take it too seriously causing an aggressive atmosphere (e.g. either pick the right tanks or people go nuts). After that a game mode should be attractive all by itself and need not have any special rewards (it still should yield bonds and battle pass tokens so it's not less rewarding then random tier 10).
They did have missions for each win that rewarded 50k credits for 20 wins which was a nice incentive to participate. You could either make some credits or spend them on prem consumables and be a little better.
Game mode was cancer. Too many trolls and people treating it like ranked. The mode would be better if you didn't fall to a previous league if you have a bad night of games or if there was a save once in a while, like ranked. Was a good way to get field modules on tanks though.
I had 5 ish games in a row with the same guy who had the legened emblem playing only arty just to go back to debutant to stomp on players. Went from c silver to bronze in a short time
Greetings from northern Canada, QB! Great discussion of Onslaught! As a casual, rather weak WOT player (in part due to poor internet service ie playing with average 70+ ping most days), I really enjoyed Onslaught! Thanks to the skill-based match making, even spending most of my time in the bottom tiers, I felt competitive as I was meeting many more players at my skill level here than I ever do playing Random. Granted the early days of Onslaught were pretty rough, but as time went on the the very good players quickly progressed to play at the higher tiers leaving us bottom feeders to battle it out on a level playing field. Even managed to get some of the Onslaught prizes, which never happens for me in WG "marathons". Also like the tank swapping option, just wish I had some more Tier X tanks to choose from. Yes, I would really like to see Onslaught in a 15 vs 15 mode with this same sort of skill-based match making.
Played a lot of this mode last two weeks and grinded to gold A. The style looks sweet, the tank roulette at the start is great, the skills complement playing for objectives. Capping is viable! HOWEVER It's basically win ratio test, you lose more losing the match than gaining when you win unless you're top 2. Every mistake is severely punished and may cost a loss not only for you but for the whole team. A single troll will have a high impact on 7v7. No rank shield means you can go on a losing streak and drop a lot (yesterday I went from gold A to silver C because in my hubris I thought I can win 2 games and get to champion). Meta is so defined that picking anything but certain 4-5 tanks may also impact the game. Playing duo means people can carry another player out of their league and ruin their experience. Not to mention mm or rather the lack of it. I've seen couple of times silvers playing versus Legend ranks. Gamemode was promising but in the end cannot compare to rankeds or even the fun cc 7v7.
I thought onslaught was mental torture. No matter how you performed your teammates could easily throw a game. It boiled down to S.Conqs, CS-63s and the AMX M4 54. I've been trying to reach champion and in the last 2 hours alone I've had people choose leopard 1's and camp at the back, afk players, people choosing arty etc. The game mode is nearly there but it honestly feels down to the luck of the draw. Even if you performed well but lost you were still punished.
My main problem with this mode is actually the balancing of "special skill" and map rotation. Map rotation pool is very small, that one you have pointed out. But one other big problem is that the pool lacks open map with the sole exception of Redshire. Light tanks and Tank Destroyers might have chance to shine if map rotation have stuffs like Malinovka or Prokorovka but no, only small maps. The other big problem is skill balancing. I don't have Tier X sniper TD so I'm not sure what they got (betting it's something useless ike "buffing gun accuracy"), but armored TD has skill that only boost horsepower slightly and reduce reload if you get penned (which is a bad design for a subclass that is armored but only have much smaller HP compared to HT counterpart, so losing HP is a really bad idea for them). Regenerating HP + few other smal buffs but for self only is a much suitable idea for them. Light tank have it worst: scouting tanks are given yet another scouting skill that is cumbersome to use and is not needed in a mode where light tank spotting is already mostly useless and there are already spotting capture points that are also useless in most of maps (again, the only map where this point is useful is Redshire). They have option to give LT some fighting chance by providing LT with something like buff/debuff skill, but no. Tripple spotting avenue for maps and meta that doesn't require spotting.
@@lukesouter9164 Westfield is crap for onslaught, you might as well devide that map across its middles section and pick up the LU-corner and have that be the map.
27:35 I think they should like let you select two or three tanks in the garage, then ones you're in battle you can select between only those tanks. Would be a happy medium between freedom and still having to adapt a little bit.
Thanks William for the disection, well done. I did not play at all, but after this VOD I shall next time. The frantic pace, player dedication and focus places the level of play well above our Random games and I find that appealing. Cheers!
@@moro8274 he once shared his uni thesis on twitch and his name is indeed William...u can try ask him on twitch and he will answer William, all the time.
I agree with everything what you said. For me was more painfull as ranked. In the 3. or 4. day put the mm in a lose spiral (10-15 in a row). That f*** me so up, I didn't even play a random battle that day. Next day, next try. First battle on onslaght - lose. Never played the game mode any more.
1. I felt the same. At first it was super exciting and fun, but later became just grindy, repetitive and frustrating. 2. The tank switching mechanic was the best thing ever. I think we all know it feels spawning in a sneaky TD on Himmelsdorf or a Heavy on malinowka. Sure this wouldn't work in random, but it was very refreshing in this mode, since you didn't feel useless or helpless just because you picked the wrong tank or spawned on the wrong map. 3. Yes, the Bond Turbo and the amount you needed was too much. I grinded it myself, but I just could because Im currently unemployed and single. My married and full time working friend who is struggling with finishing the battle pass is struggling even with reaching iron just for the skin, just because he doesnt have the time and we cant play together since Im too high in rank. The Skin for me personally was bigger drive to get up high, since I want to show off in random battles that I made it to silver. 4. Missing variety. Just like QB said, you basically saw the same tanks again and again. On lower ranks, there was some fun, like we won a battle even with an EBR and an SPG in our team, or the enemies won just because they had a STRV sitting in the back sniping us down. But other than that, you could basically tell just from the map what the enemies are going to do. No big surprises in the higher ranks and even more frustration when you knew what is going to happen but your allies dont seem to and get overwhelmed. 5. Timed Event. The only permament "End-game-content" are randoms or clan stuff I guess. But other than grinding MoEs or doing campaign missions in randoms, there isnt anything else to go for, except these timed events all the time, that become grind fests just to get the reward that makes you better in randoms. 6. Only Tier X. Yes it's the Apex Tier, but other Tiers are fun as well and deserve to be included. Maybe give different rewards for lower tiers or I don't know, but include them. It get's quite boring playing the same tiers again and again and again. I want to drive my Tier 6 to 9 tanks occasionally. And just imagine, if it wouldnt be a grindfest, really just for something like skins, if you start selecting a TOG and the whole team does. I had only 2 games where nearly the whole team picked the same tank for fun and these were the best game. We ruled because we were in sync and at least I was laughing tears. That's my word of the sunday for the game mode. Sincerly, another stranger on the internet
Personally, this mode was VERY VERY useful in speeding up the acquisition of battle pass points because of the speed of the battles and because no matter your final position you had at least 3 points. I didn't care about my rank (I reached gold rank regardless), played on economy mode so as not to lose credits, and focused on rewards and battle pass points.
No arty being played was a HUGE plus to the mode. TVP, EBR, maybe Kran, Leo 1 and WZ 5A and E100 were also very playable tanks it the mode. Some idiots just thought they aren't meta and complained for no reason.
Essentially it’s a game mode where people have to attack instead of a the randoms which are a staring contest in which if you attack you usually lose cause good defence wins the majority of time.
Having a bond turbo versus a normal one is a difference, but not game winning on a consistent basis. Most of the skill has to come from actual tactics knowledge and skillful aim
The thing that really pissed me off was how no matter how well you perform, you'll still lose rating points if you lose. So unless you're a god-tier unicum, there's no way you can climb in rating with a shit team
I enjoyed Onslaught quite a bit. Very nice change from the standard random games. The reduced amount of players (7 instead of 15 per team) is the top positive. The lack of artillery wasnt a problem at all. And the low number of TDs or lights wasnt felt negative.
honestly i agree with you QB, when the gamemode first came out i was super excited, it was something new, somethign diffrent, and when i saw the rewards i was so happy that i could get all of those new stuff that could really help me out, when i first started playin ,everythign was going great, i was able to chose what tank i wanted , i had my own impact on the game and it was just fun,but the more and more i played it the more i realised how boring and furstrtaitng it can get, i satrted playin it like only 2 battles a day,and when i reached 40 wins ,i jsut gave up on it and went back to the random queue cause i honestly think it's more fun thanks for this vid QB, keep up teh great content
One more thing again on the CS server tanks were 705A, E3, SC, 60TP, VZ, CS63, IS7, IS4, and of course M48. These were the most played tanks that I saw.
Grinded my 160 wins within first 2 weeks or so and forgot this game mode. I found 7v7 being more fun than random 15v15 simply as you had more room to operate (i only play mediums) and the games were faster. however i was disgusted with the ranking system as i could never really climb higher than the gold league. After a good session you hit the gold league, then next day no matter what you start with typical 8-10 defeats in a row and you are back to debutant or silver league. i calculated my win ratio about 49% in the mode that is about standard for any occasional players but with that average you wont climb up the leagues. tank selection was always the same 6 or 7 different tanks, with least 4 super conquerors any game between both teams.
I really loved the onslaught specially the platoon feature!!! I also think it was really intense. There were ONLY meds and heavys because the light tanks have no special feature that a médium tanks cant do... So the problem is that wg should rebalance tanks that have so much view range and leave that to the lights
Keep the food, bounty / bond equipment, premium ammo, etc. But make it useable ONLY at tier X. Remove the option from tiers I-IX. That way the "sweaty nerds" can still compete for the "best tuned tank", but the other tiers would be exempt. (You can make it tiers I-VIII, I-VII, etc., but draw a line somewhere.). Maybe make it possible to still grind the bond or bounty equipment at other tiers, to avoid having to only grind it at tier X while trying to compete with others who already have it. Just an idea. DIdn't like Onslaught at all BTW, but then again, I don't play much tier X.
I just straight up liked the game mode as is - it was fun, super fun to play, but I think the radio towers and artillery should only be allowed twice or three time in the game and there locations should switch during the round. ELO is best for any competitive game mode, fog of war is great, as far as only two tank classes being viable, that is really the same in the random, but the majority of the player base doesn't understand this and they are fodder for the better players regardless. It's a game bias - the only fix for this is to either change the maps to add much more cover for the less useable classes or go back to making them nearly invisible when stationary as things used to be. The other three classes have been ruined by the power creep and poor terrain for hiding them with their current nerfed camo values and damage abilities. These are my opinions, and it's not Onslaught's fault, it's a game mode that makes the existing problems in the regular game more obvious. The game mode was the most fun thing they've done in the 9 years I've been playing the game.
It'd be nice in pubs to see my team before selecting my "class" of tank. So for example, I pick a T10 TD. After the matches start, I can see the map and my team. I can then select a T10 TD based on the map and my team's pick.
I would LOVE to see a game mode where players get to choose a class and then get a random tank of that class to play with. You can choose 5 of you best and get 1 random.
I hope that some of the little map changes make it to the random battle queue maps, such as the land contours on the middle of the flag capture area in cliff, the extra rubble and routes on himmelsdorf etc...
If they only gave customisation items I would not even try the mode. Although after suffering through the first 20 battles or so I actually like it and would play more even with similar rewards as random battles.
I agree with your suggestion, 15v15 with ELO and no abilities. However, I would go further. 1) Only active techtree tanks allowed (could add T8 battles eventually), 2) Amunation compozition where max 50% of max ammo capacity can be same type of shell. 3) all equipment would have just a "regular" atributes - equal for all
William Frampton, I hope you read this because I put a lot of time and thought into this post. I actually really liked the game-mode, especially at the start. It got a little less fun towards the end though because it lacked variety. Here are my thoughts about each aspect: The speed of the games was fine by me. I like fast paced game. Campy T.D. games make me want to suicide from boredom. I guess I just have a low attention span. I think the 7 v 7. It increases the speed of games and increases my individual aspect. I think the artillery and radio zones were alright, but they need to be placed in different spots each time you played it. This would drastically improve variety. Make it so they spawn in different numbers (including 0) and different locations. I love the skill based matchmaking, with the lack of chevrons, encouraging players to win instead of being selfish. Fog of war was brilliant. I loved it. Picking the tank at the start of the game is something that as soon as I heard it, I knew it would be terrible. Everyone just chooses the same tank over and over again. Number of maps was a joke. All maps should be in this mode. Final thoughts: The game-mode has some key positives but is destroyed by lack of variety. The zones need more variety. The maps need more variety. The tanks should not be picked after the map is known. There should also be incentives to play different tanks, but that also don't affect the team. I have an idea that may sounds nuts, but hear me out. What if each tank that gets played the least in the whole server in this mode, gets crew bonuses according to how often they are played, making the tank more effective. The bonus constantly changes each day according to how often the tank gets used. This would eventually lead to an algorithmic balance to each tank, making every tank, especially rare tanks seem desirable. Conversely, the opposite should also happen. If a tank gets used more than others, they get a crew anti-bonus. The percentage of such bonuses and and anti-bonuses would be adjusted by how much people play them. Such a change may lead to unintentional problems, but if implemented well, and if it worked to keep people playing different tanks all the time, the variety to the mode would actually insanely good. Also, as a bonus, it could help balancers of the game know which tanks are over and under performing.
I felt that the mode was very fun. The reward camos looked cool to me. I personally think 7v7 is a good way for combat in wot to play out. Having only 7 players makes the maps feel larger it promotes not camping at the back of the map. I think it teaches good brawling methods to players such as getting crossfires, sharing hp among players, and recognizing when you have a numbers advantage promoting aggressive gameplay. The fact the bond turbo was an exclusive reward to this mode and still can’t be bought for bonds just sucks. If I had to make some changes I would make the arty strikes not stun, this would make them less frustrating but still useful for things like resetting cap or gaining an hp advantage in a brawl
I managed to reach Silver A, at two points from Gold and it started pushing me back down till Iron D...almost two leagues lost...I kept playing only for that turbo...now, I'm not the strongest of the players but it has no sense that I managed to hike till there with a 50/50 win/losses and then I crumbled down...I tought it was me, but looking at the badges of the players I was competing with, at that point, there were loads of Ranked Battles badges, Beta testere's one and so on...at that point I realised that the points system was punishing the defeat more than rewarding the victory...so the rank was getting stretched more and more...this is something I'd change. I don't know if anybody else had the same impression...
I 100% agree with you on every one of these points. My only additional complaint would be that it was only available for certain hours of the day. By having it only playable late in the evening it made it impossible for me (I work night shifts) to actively play the game mode. Even on my days off it would mean I have to change my sleep schedule, while still not having sufficient hours to play and achieve the rewards. I understand that not everyone has as schedule as restrictive as mine, but it did feel that I got completely left out and had no opportunity to experience Onslaught fully.
160 wins is a lot, IMHO too many, but I still got through it in the limited time I had to play (roughly one hour a day before work, asides from Saturdays). Works out to about 4 wins a day, which was doable with how short the battles were. Should still be reduced to maybe 100 or 120 wins in the future. Thankfully I never once ran up against a super platoon, but saw plenty of 2-man platoons. Overall I loved Onslaught, it was so much better than Ranked, for the reasons given in the video. Maybe the meta on NA was different than EU, but we did see a lot of different tanks. E100 was the go to pick on Ensk, fast heavies like 277 and IS7 were good for taking bowl on Cliff or A1 on El Halluf, Kranvagn was often seen on Westfield and Redshire, as was the STB1. For TD's, E3 was seen often on Ensk, 268v4 on Cliff (for pushing bowl), and even the JPE100 and Badger was seen. And of course the Sconq, AMX M4, and Vz55 were commonly seen on most maps. Disclaimer, I did pick the AMX M4 54 on all maps but Ensk, where I picked the E100. AMX is currently a very hollistic and enjoyable tank, and unlike previous meta-picks like the Kran, it's not un-enjoyable to play against. I reached Champion rank, but dropped down to Gold towards the end. At that point I'd gotten my Bond Turbo and an increase in work load meant I had no time to play at all during the hours where Onslaught was active. I didn't like the radio towers and arty barrages, those could be taken out I think. And for those of us with jobs outside of the regular 9-5, please please let modes like this be active 24h a day in the future - no more cease fires! My best ever match in the mode was early on, going through Iron Rank, 7k dmg on Ghost Town in the AMX M4 54. Sadly there was a micro patch just the day after which broke the replay...
For me, the most ugly thing was, that you can lose all your progress and easily droped down from, let's say gold A to the iron or debutant.. In so many battles it doesn't if you are rly good player or bad.. You just need to be lucky, but oh boy.. If you are not the lucky one, then u can have 10 losses in a row and then it's simply GG and Alt+F4
Horrible points system, trying to carry a team of potatos, have more damage than them combined and only thing u get is that u lose like 5 less points than the knobhead with 0 damage
Hi QB! Love your videos! I have a suggestion for a future video. I was wondering if you could do a video of the best collectable tanks. Are they any good and is it worth to buy any of them? Would be much appreciated if you could do a quick rundown on all nations collectable tanks and pick 1-2 best tanks of every nation. Keep up the good work!
I agree, personally I only got 60 wins since i only started played for a few hours for 4 or 5 days, but i think 160 wins over 45 days is quite reasonable (if you are an ok player). I look forward to playing the next season of onslaught, and hope that they will keep the bond turbo as a reward.
Badger was really good for me. I played FV 4005 on Ensk and north spawn only on Redshire and South Spawn on Cliff always got 4k damage in that mode. The rest was Badger and Cent
Why no mention about 7v7 making the maps better playable. In addition, the best thing about Onslaught is when you treat it as a for fun mode and dont bother with those rankings/reward. Just try to have some fun. Also... in the lower leagues everybody still picks pretty much whatever thank they please, making it like randoms but with 50% of the tanks.
I didn't play onslaught because I dont have the meta tanks. I'm just a casual player who plays for fun,. I only have a few tier 10's and nine of them were ever really used in this mode. Great vid QB
I agree and want the same. Standard 15v15 ELO on all maps with tank selection and fog of war. I feel adding abilities is just gimmicks, and they keep doing it in virtually all the modes now.
I've never played a "ranked" game mode; it seems just a pay-to-win fest where experienced players (who already own all the tanks) get to curb-stomp newer players. For me to play they would need to ban: bond equipment, bounty equipment, directives and food consumables. Hearing about Onslaught's ELO system does seem a good step.
I completed onslaught free to play, no premium consumables, handful of gold rounds, achieved a 55% win ratio, got to gold rank before completing the 160 wins, while using my only 3 t10 tanks, Manticore, Strv103b and T110e3.
19:50 about level playing fields one idea is to introduce a draft system. for players without all the equipment, let alone the tanks, it would be nice to try full setup bond tanks without having to grind for it. each tank is allocated a point value as well as each equipment and ammo, and everyone has the same amount to spend. how about a shared pool draft for equipment: each team alternates and picks one, then decides how to allocate to each player, you can pile it all on beefing up heavies, or go balanced. bond will be worth more points, and remember each team has roughly same value of equipment in total. ~just theorycrafting
Their attitude to the game is killing it, making the haves and the have nots so far apart it’s not even funny. Rewards like this under the banner of a grind fest or FOMO attitude means that it stops introducing new players as even low tiers are now filled with puppy kickers. You play a little, get so far and think…why am I doing this to myself? Best players don’t need the advantages of bond equipment, consumables or full skill round loadouts to be the best. If their tank looks different to the usual, that’s the recognition they should get, not oh look I am the best player with the best equipment, you all lose.
The game is built and balanced around 15 vs 15 randoms. I 100% agree with the final point of the video. That is what it should be. Random battle rules at full tier 10 with an elo system. Although I think that without some BIG additional incentives like bonds and top equipment then game mode would have too few people participating.
One thing WG could do is to limit the number of battles in a row or in a session you can play with a certain vehicle, depending on the number of your tier 10 tanks. E.g. Let's say I have 50 T10s. Then whenever I play a battle with my CS-63, it is locked for the next, say, 40 battles. In these 40 battles I have to play other 40 of my remaining 49 tier 10s. On the other hand, if I have only 2 tier 10s (like my profile really does) I will just have to switch between my two tanks. Or if I have 10 tier 10s, a vehicle is locked for 6 battles, you get the point. I think this is the easiest thing to do and will not affect the mechanic of the game mode, but will add a HUGE variety. What do you think about this?
Very well made points. I agree with you to full extent. They couldn't force me to finish this game mode, even though I only needed 56 more wins. That would equate to around 8 hours of playtime. A bond turbo is not worth 8 hours of my life and soul. This mode even put me off from playing world of tanks alltogether for the last 2 weeks. It was so boring to play and frustrating thanks to the lose streaks caused by the unbalanced team compositions that I couldn't make myself play anymore. Sure the players may have the same ranks, but the players behind the ranks are not equally distributed among the teams. I often had ridiculously unbalanced matches where one team would get four 63% winrate players while my team would get four 48% players and vice versa. Wargaming already has a very good rating system called WTR which tracks everything much better than 3rd party formulas. It even tracks for tanks separately and is weighted. I don't understand why they didn't use it for this mode. The new rank system has very small sample size while WTR has huge amount. Also if they plan to iterate it ranks will be very shallow. WTR could be used for the new game mode you are proposing. I doubt wargaming will listen, they are following a path of maximum greed, minimum effort.
So, in fairness, I didn't play onslaught. I am only a casual player and can manage about 20 games per week (or a bit more). I am a 45.9% muppet probably because of it. I think that the ELO system would be outstanding. It would probably mean I would almost never face an amazing stomper like the mighty QB but, that being said, as I improve, so would my rating etc. I have learned absolutely tons of tips and tricks just watching QB - from turret shots to bush camouflage. I have a sprinkling of tier X tanks but nothing I could say, wow that's a stunning tank. Maybe playing someone with a similar 46% ratio would level the playing field. Let's hope WG listen. Great video, great content on Twitch and UA-cam sir. Thank you
My opinion on onslaught. Having now finished with the wins and happy with the rank I got too, I’m playing to grind out kills and the mode is pretty fun without when you not worried about points. This mode should not be a replacement for ranked as I feel that was better as damage you did was the main way to secure points. The onslaught mode point system is a joke and needs significant reworking (Damage and assistance has to be the only way points are scored if reworked ) too many times top damage but will still lose points cuz a teammate sat in the cap for 5 mins. There’s many other issues like cap speed and so on, but to sum it all up I think this mode should remove the ranking system and just keep the wins counter to some reward if re introduced as it’s more enjoyable that way.
I couldn't really do Onslaught. My only tier 10 is an E 100. I have the E 50M unlocked, but sold it a decade ago when it was pretty poor, and then stopped playing. I would have liked to give it a go, but didn't want to screw over my team with appaling tank choice.
@17.45 that is if they are maxed out for which you need a ton of credits... Tbh I liked this thing, nice rewards and all. Less stresfull then ranked yet better then randoms (skill wise). Unfortunatelly I didn't get far since I am not playing much anymore and since I am getting disconnected all the time from servers. Got myself a nice silver camo and bunch of bonds and I am happy.
Welcome to WoT Blitz :D As great Blitz player but poor PC player, I had a lot of fun playing Onslaught. I felt right at home in the 7v7 format. Agressive actions were more rewarding!
1. gold round is necessary, if you are not rich, you can't play this ranking game, 2. should have no SPG in team, 3. MT should be more active if they are more numbered, 4. problem of teamwork. 5. whatever you try, the result still not depend much on you, you may get 7000 damage, you may kill most of tanks, the rest may sometime going total handicap
I wonder if wg can have the cap and all the towers you need to try and get randomly appear in different places on the map. So your not going to the same place every time to cap the map or take the arty perk and so on. It would mix it up a lot if they randomly changed locations on the map.
Why can't the rewards just cost normal bonds (bud a ridiculous amount) and all you get for being the best of the best is loads of bonds? That way, everyone can get the op tanks and op equipment eventually, but the best players get it right away.
I got the bond turbo and I am not an elite player in any way. I just put in the time to get the 160 wins. 160 wins in 45 days is totally doable. I agree and like the swapping of tanks. Once i grinded the 160 wins I did not play again if that tells you anything.
Being a somewhat competitive player i quite enjoyed the mode. Ended up being the first person on the eu cluster to reach the champion rank, and also the first to reach the legend rank since 1 champion turned into legend straight away. Reached it day 2 playing 7 man super platoon, never met a solo team at the beginning, met some later on grinding the victories. Best memory being 59 minute que time during day 2 and having time to take a shower, make dinner and clean my apartment while we still hadn't found a battle (yes i was that confident we could not find a battle. Things i personally disliked: - Fog of War, Being able to see and analyze the enemy lineup, and thinking what will they be able to do with it is a big part of the competitive gameplay in my opinion. - Tank spesific abilities or their balancing, CS-63 for an example was the ultimate pick most of the time not only because of the speed, but also beause of the strike ability, which allowed you to play even all the way on the other side of the map while still being able to decap. Other meds didn't have such ability. Maybe it would be better, if everyone was able to pick the ability they want. - Strike and radio tower points of interest. Forcing people to play towards them since they create a great advantage for the team capturing them like mentioned on the video. - Elo system was flawed, being able to meet gold, or even silver players as a legend was not ideal. But i understand that it needed to happen due to the long que times. - Time spread when you were able to play the mode was huge, 11:00 am - 02:00 am meaning there wasn't always a big pool of players playing the mode. Yes it's a good thing for casual people, who might have work in the evening for an example. They are able to play when it suits them, but this creates the problem of longer que times. because not everyone is playing at the same time. Also voice chat was barely used on EU1 server, but i played a couple battles on EU3, and there was 4-5 people talking on voice, every, single, game, altho mostly in ukrainian language it being the server for the transfered players. So that was just an EU issue, maybe language barrier, who knows.
Although I do not have any teir X or have the chance to play ranked, the Forced Particiaption and constant fighting against Premium Players trash talking Free players like myself is VERY ANNOYING. Me playing my hotchkiss with no premium rounds and this other ebr on the enemy spamming gold rounds at me and then after the match he sent a friend request to me which I didn't find weird but I didn't know it was him. He started trashtalking me badly :(
Didn't play it even once but from this perspective it sounds pretty much like a game mode we have except for the special abilities. it's tier 6 skirmishes. the competitive teams have either full t34-85m team or have 1 or 2 vk30.01/vk36.01 in their team. and these are just so strong tanks inside the skirmishes that if they combine them with good players then it's impossible to win for someone who just has fun in skirmishes. wg needs to nerf t34-85m mobility and weaken their tracks massively. edit: just made it to the communication and the ingame voice part and i sadly have to agree with you qb. altho my problem isn't the mic quality, it's that some people are so damn loud that you have to block their voice to not lose your hearing, and then others are speaking as quiet as a mouse so you can't hear them. so mostly in skirmishes if the commander bothers even with tactics then he just pings the map multiple times and most of the team goes there. except that one another player who thinks they can 1v3 in a different flank and won't listen when you say fall back.
I have to disagree with what the "meta" was. Only saw 2 AMX M4 54's and never once saw a CS 53. What I saw most of was 60TP, Super Conqueror's, MAUS's & AMX 50B's. For the battles I played there was a very specific battle strategy. 3 heavies with that could heal would go for the cap while the other 4 would either split up and go for each flank or storm a single flank. after they'd win their flank they'd go join the heavies in winning the cap.
Hello QB! This was a great informative video and I don't think that I have agreed to a video more than this one. I really felt that you hit the head of the nail in this one. Every single point you brought up was something that I had thought about. I hate that the reward was a BOND TURBO because you HAVE to grind for that. Also the gamemode was extremely boring and this was nothing more but a 30 hour grind to get an overpowered item. But I want you to know these videos are great and really well-made and it is what WoT needs to keep going. Keep up the great work man!
I appreciated that as a rubbish player I was still able to get all the rewards after approx. 320 battles. In 'Ranked' most of the decent rewards, i.e. bond tanks, are out of my league and I quickly lose heart and give up on the mode soon after the qualifying stage
Great game mode! I actually felt my own impact in games. It was nice to have the ability to rotate around the map due to the smaller team sizes. My fav so far, it almost reminded me of clan wars back in the day
I have managed to grind my way up to 3 T10 tanks, but neither I am a good player nor the tanks are spectacular enough to compensate for my deficiencies (Jgpz E100, IS-7, BC-25t), so I usually end up skipping the events like ranked and this one and focusing on grinding current top of the tree event. I also noticed, that WG for some reason tends to cram various events into the same time slot - like the halloween mode that often coincides with the ranked / onslaught, making me even less likely to participate. I mean, if you really want to get some rewards from those modes you need to play relatively many games, and I have a job and 3 children, I can't spend a few hours a day to grind the tech trees, any event that coincides with the current tier X event, and the tier X event itself. Maybe if I manage to get some other Tier X tanks that I feel more comfortable with, but right now it would be pushing myself to the limit and probably still not achieving much.
7 v 7 platoons was great fun. It made the grind bearable. Winner takes all made me more salty than in ranked. At least not losing points when finishing on top of your team would've been nice. 160 wins was way too many wins. Because it's only 7 v 7, good players have more impact. But having 2 bad players made it impossible to carry. There was simply no coming back from a 2 gun disadvantage.
Never understood why there can’t be a 1v1 gamemode with a selection of preset tanks as a form of ranked? Easy or methodical games where personal skill and positioning would be crucial. If the tanks were game preset then the players who use bond equipment wouldn’t rely on such equipment for the advantage.
Overall, I liked the game mode, but after grinding to champion with obj 705a, fell back to bronze in 2 days. Often when my team won I was towards the bottom, but when we lost I would be at the top. Who knows maybe it’s just me, but what started as a fun game mode, diminished entirely after that.
I played the mode and had a lot of fun.
Not having to deal with arty and TDs camping at the back was one of the best parts of the mode. It is actually possible to push and make plays if you don't have 3 triangles sitting on the redline aiming down 1 corridor for the entirety of the game.
This comment is simply facts.
Big true, I had fun getting legend and then farming 1million free xp
Being able to swap tanks at the start was my favorite take away from this game mode.
@@warkus123 I think it would be the complete opposite. Everyone in lights, specially wheeled ones and driving around like crazy. 😂😂
Watch out the reply is a scammer
One of the better mods that wg introduced this year, it was a great way to grind tier X field modifications without loseing raiting 😄
And get some bonds.
This mode offered none of those.
the only unique and sensible comment out of the few dozen I have read
Well it was like ranked, wasnt it? Just a different form of ranked
I had 5 ish games in a row with the same guy who had the legened emblem playing only arty just to go back to debutant to stomp on players. Went from c silver to bronze in a short time
@@brent6452 so? Dont wanna be rude, but that doesnt change the fact it was a ranked mode. And you were unlucky to run into such an ........
fully agree, same exact feeling !
@@ChaoZisaLaDDer It was like ranked, but the early version of it, before they introduced levels where you don't drop down after losing few games.
HOWEVER
It's basically win ratio test, you lose more losing the match than gaining when you win unless you're top 2.
Even if you performed well but lost you were still punished.
yeah leopard 1 on team is instant lose because all of them camp in the back
"No matter how you performed your teammates could easily throw a game."
And that's different from a random battle how?
Westfield was also in the map rotation. But regardless the mode HEAVILY favored the "brawl-y" tanks.
@@lukesouter9164 Westfield is crap for onslaught, you might as well devide that map across its middles section and pick up the LU-corner and have that be the map.
I got bullied on Red Shire by two Manticores. Maybe youre right, the map rotation was the main reason lights couldnt get involved.
Cheers!

Played this gamemode at the tank museum today, seemed rly good
I agree with everything what you said. For me was more painfull as ranked. In the 3. or 4. day put the mm in a lose spiral (10-15 in a row). That f*** me so up, I didn't even play a random battle that day. Next day, next try. First battle on onslaght - lose. Never played the game mode any more.
and even if you try and carry and do more than your whole team you still lose -18 points which make it even more sufferable
Same here! I was tired of going backwards with losses that were so lopsided, that I stopped playing after 1 week.
True. Going all-in in randoms makes you look like a bot in this mode it was other way around.
I used IS4 for the most part even if i got the SC and the AMX, it felt very good. I wish WG start using ELO system on random battles
What means ELO please answer me
@Caleb Miles with nubs it is boring
Having a bond turbo versus a normal one is a difference, but not game winning on a consistent basis. Most of the skill has to come from actual tactics knowledge and skillful aim
I definitely felt the pain of not having meta tanks. It really stopped me from being able to climb to the highest ranks.
The thing that really pissed me off was how no matter how well you perform, you'll still lose rating points if you lose. So unless you're a god-tier unicum, there's no way you can climb in rating with a shit team
But according to ELO-system everyone would be akin your skill...
I enjoyed Onslaught quite a bit. Very nice change from the standard random games.
The reduced amount of players (7 instead of 15 per team) is the top positive.
The lack of artillery wasnt a problem at all. And the low number of TDs or lights wasnt felt negative.
honestly i agree with you QB, when the gamemode first came out i was super excited, it was something new, somethign diffrent, and when i saw the rewards i was so happy that i could get all of those new stuff that could really help me out, when i first started playin ,everythign was going great, i was able to chose what tank i wanted , i had my own impact on the game and it was just fun,but the more and more i played it the more i realised how boring and furstrtaitng it can get, i satrted playin it like only 2 battles a day,and when i reached 40 wins ,i jsut gave up on it and went back to the random queue cause i honestly think it's more fun
thanks for this vid QB, keep up teh great content
Skill issue
Yeah...I saw 160 wins and RAN!!!! Like, I logged off and hugged my girl, and I said, "Let's go outside" "Baby, it's raining" "....I Don't Care"
I still miss the immortal event from last year
It'd be nice in pubs to see my team before selecting my "class" of tank. So for example, I pick a T10 TD. After the matches start, I can see the map and my team. I can then select a T10 TD based on the map and my team's pick.
i see u also played with those riggers from invil
I would LOVE to see a game mode where players get to choose a class and then get a random tank of that class to play with. You can choose 5 of you best and get 1 random.
I hope that some of the little map changes make it to the random battle queue maps, such as the land contours on the middle of the flag capture area in cliff, the extra rubble and routes on himmelsdorf etc...
If they only gave customisation items I would not even try the mode. Although after suffering through the first 20 battles or so I actually like it and would play more even with similar rewards as random battles.
I've just finished it! The 'Bond Turbo' is already on my Strv 103B 🙂.
I agree with your suggestion, 15v15 with ELO and no abilities. However, I would go further. 1) Only active techtree tanks allowed (could add T8 battles eventually), 2) Amunation compozition where max 50% of max ammo capacity can be same type of shell. 3) all equipment would have just a "regular" atributes - equal for all
15vs15 is meh
William Frampton, I hope you read this because I put a lot of time and thought into this post.
I actually really liked the game-mode, especially at the start. It got a little less fun towards the end though because it lacked variety. Here are my thoughts about each aspect:
The speed of the games was fine by me.
All you lose is pride tho, so it doesnt really matter. You get the same with random queue and yea that is your sign to take a break for the day.
Being able to win the rewards and not be forced to reach gold/champ is actually very good.
I agree, personally I only got 60 wins since i only started played for a few hours for 4 or 5 days, but i think 160 wins over 45 days is quite reasonable (if you are an ok player). I look forward to playing the next season of onslaught, and hope that they will keep the bond turbo as a reward.
UNTIL THEY SORT OUT THE MM I DON'T EVEN BOTHER
Didn't play it, but noticed fewer Tier 10 vehicles in the Random game when playing Tier 8 & 9 which made these games more enjoyable.
I liked so much great concept the option to rotate tanks and 7x7 is enough to make shine tanks which could not begore
As soon as I saw that platoons where included I would not play this mode.
Average game in WoTB be like:
I agree and want the same. Standard 15v15 ELO on all maps with tank selection and fog of war. I feel adding abilities is just gimmicks, and they keep doing it in virtually all the modes now.
I've never played a "ranked" game mode; it seems just a pay-to-win fest where experienced players (who already own all the tanks) get to curb-stomp newer players. For me to play they would need to ban: bond equipment, bounty equipment, directives and food consumables. Hearing about Onslaught's ELO system does seem a good step.
i'm really angry that Wargaming didn't bring Mriny 13 to 2022 but they did bring back the Last blitztrager event
Honestly this has been my favorite game mode. Rewards aside I made a lot of credits play tier 10 which was cool games were fast and fun
I completed onslaught free to play, no premium consumables, handful of gold rounds, achieved a 55% win ratio, got to gold rank before completing the 160 wins, while using my only 3 t10 tanks, Manticore, Strv103b and T110e3.
I had a lot of fun in my e5 and got a shit ton of bonds from grinding the gamemode
Worst thing by far was the class meta, heavies and high armor tds were the only competitive tanks
i feel like a competetive environment necessarily implies less variety because a meta will form in any competetive environment, not just in games.
19:50 about level playing fields
one idea is to introduce a draft system. for players without all the equipment, let alone the tanks, it would be nice to try full setup bond tanks without having to grind for it.
each tank is allocated a point value as well as each equipment and ammo, and everyone has the same amount to spend.
how about a shared pool draft for equipment: each team alternates and picks one, then decides how to allocate to each player, you can pile it all on beefing up heavies, or go balanced. bond will be worth more points, and remember each team has roughly same value of equipment in total.
I enjoyed the game mode quite a lot AFTER i got the rank i wanted, gold. After that i started chilling and playing for fun and learning
Imagine not getting legend
@@mrmeepsmeeperson770 I dont shoot gold nor play the game 100games a day. I dont need legend
I actually enjoyed onslaught, but I never played for the competive side
I was also fortunate enough to defeat the FOMO of the Burbo from the rewards. Felt nice to just not care about it.
I agree with you totaly. And the 15 v 15 with ELO on all maps sounds great
So, in fairness, I didn't play onslaught.
Totally agree with you ..
I got bored after 10 games and got back to the random queue
@17.45 that is if they are maxed out for which you need a ton of credits...
Tbh I liked this thing, nice rewards and all. Less stresfull then ranked yet better then randoms (skill wise). Unfortunatelly I didn't get far since I am not playing much anymore and since I am getting disconnected all the time from servers. Got myself a nice silver camo and bunch of bonds and I am happy.
Welcome to WoT Blitz :D
As great Blitz player but poor PC player, I had a lot of fun playing Onslaught. I felt right at home in the 7v7 format. Agressive actions were more rewarding!
You just about blinded me with that bright white background at the start. 🤣🤣
1. gold round is necessary, if you are not rich, you can't play this ranking game,
2. should have no SPG in team,
3. MT should be more active if they are more numbered,
4. problem of teamwork.
5. whatever you try, the result still not depend much on you, you may get 7000 damage, you may kill most of tanks, the rest may sometime going total handicap
WoT Blitz players looking at tis, while having fun-er game modes and a permanent 7v7.
I wonder if wg can have the cap and all the towers you need to try and get randomly appear in different places on the map. So your not going to the same place every time to cap the map or take the arty perk and so on. It would mix it up a lot if they randomly changed locations on the map.
I don't feel like playing random battles anymore
Things i personally disliked:
- Fog of War, Being able to see and analyze the enemy lineup, and thinking what will they be able to do with it is a big part of the competitive gameplay in my opinion.
He started trashtalking me badly :(
Didn't play it even once but from this perspective it sounds pretty much like a game mode we have except for the special abilities. it's tier 6 skirmishes. the competitive teams have either full t34-85m team or have 1 or 2 vk30.01/vk36.01 in their team. and these are just so strong tanks inside the skirmishes that if they combine them with good players then it's impossible to win for someone who just has fun in skirmishes.
wg needs to nerf t34-85m mobility and weaken their tracks massively.
edit:
just made it to the communication and the ingame voice part and i sadly have to agree with you qb. altho my problem isn't the mic quality, it's that some people are so damn loud that you have to block their voice to not lose your hearing, and then others are speaking as quiet as a mouse so you can't hear them. so mostly in skirmishes if the commander bothers even with tactics then he just pings the map multiple times and most of the team goes there. except that one another player who thinks they can 1v3 in a different flank and won't listen when you say fall back.
It was useless if you have no qualifying tier 10 tanks
Not only that but the old ranked was a joke
if you think onslaught was the best version of WOT you are crazy, it was extremely frustrating!!
I personally used IS-4, 113, STB, T100LT, sometimes JPZ or Bobject, E3,
Never understood why there can’t be a 1v1 gamemode with a selection of preset tanks as a form of ranked? Easy or methodical games where personal skill and positioning would be crucial. If the tanks were game preset then the players who use bond equipment wouldn’t rely on such equipment for the advantage.
I liked onslaught. It was like a better ranked mode. I finished in Champion with 167 wins and then stopped playing it .
