Wow, years of playing WoT, only today I find out that there are mid-high tier tanks without premium ammo! I thought every tank above tier 4 has premium ammo.
I enjoyed the grind of the emil back in the day, interesting how QB never brought up how the stock gun is also viable and people use it as it carries more ammo
Yes, the penetration on the stock gun is okay for lower tier tanks for sure and you do have premium ammo to fall back on though I cheap out and just try to hit weakspots on higher tier heavies. Key word "try"
You are better off just taking the Jagdpanther instead, since it gets more pen and dmg on basically the same gun, but it has more mobility and armor. If you play the Emil, you should take the big gun for the full Emil experience.
Fun fact: in Blitz, this tank actually has the same type of spaced armour that it has on its lower plate up on its cheeks (you can even see the mounting posts in this video), and even through there they can switch rounds immediately, this thing at least can't be penetrated with he rounds unless you get it's side
St Emil was actually designed around the gun. That 12.8 cm Pak was too big for existing german TDs so there is a fun fact Edit: wow almost 250 likes thats the most ive got ever on a comment
very much true. But who wouldve thought, a gun with no armour, horrible transmission and an unreliable engine wasnt that well liked by the crews of this tank, leading to its name, Sturer (stubborn) Emil.

@@vukorevic8478 yup, they were in service from 1942-43, so pretty much mid war. Generally german machinery in the war had issues apart from the guns, but the St Emil was reported to be extraordinarily bad.

yes but match making rarely ever gave you tier 5s. And while you can 1 shot them they can bully you as well since the only thing you have is a big gun with very few rounds

If the St Emil had 20-25 rounds with the 12.8, then I might consider playing it, but having so little ammunition is so annoying, which is why I almost never play my Super Hellcat.
to be fair; shooting all the rounds a sturer emil can hold will get you in excess of 7000 damage in a game, so as long as you make your shots count you'd have more damage then 99.9% of average tier 7 tanks
@@timeforgottenprince8271 well, think of it like this. if you manage a very easy 50% hit rate, you'd do 3500 damage every game you use up all your ammo in, which is a good game for much higher tiers let alone a tier 7.
I am in love with the gun depression, it does things a Kranvagn would have wet dreams about. Good thing it has no armor otherwise there could be issues... The depression does allow you to pull farther back behind bushes on hills though to allow for a greater level of stealth.
This thing was so fun! How could you skip it?! You just stay wayyy back and pummel anyone who tries to make a move. Excellent gun depression and with a whopping 128mm, One of the easiest grinds I've had.
I remember grinding the St Emil. What fun that was. TBH, after awhile, I learned to love the tank, but my goal was always the Borsig so that kept me going.
I actually love this tank! It is rather slow, but use its gun depression on a ridgeline, in a battle without arties, and you're golden. I can't tell you how many times I got into that narrow dip on the northern side of Malinovka and just completely shredded the enemy. Assault on Steppes is another good map for this. People don't give this tank the credit it deserves. Just had a battle in it the other day where I got 3k damage.
The issue is that the stock gun is just terrible, so they skate past the better gun, not realizing that most tanks only fire about 15 shots in a game and this is a big gun. Many times I've sat in stupid places or poked over ridges where basically they have only my gun barrel to aim at as the depression is silly. Best of all, it avoids the T10 idiocy. While I love my T8 TD, it's even slower and faces a lot of T9/T10 tanks with really no better gun.
I think I remember the stock St Emil being slightly more playable than the T28 stock. You have a greater top speed, reverse and better tank traverse in the stock Emil. Where the T28 stock feels like a TOG II. Yes you get a greater gun arc with the T28 but we are splitting hairs compared to the mobility that Tier 6 and 7 offered.
Hey QB, not sure if youl ever see this comment, but if so. Do you truly enjoy playing world of tanks in its current state? Ive been playing since 2013 and personally i feel as though its at an all time low, bad matchmaking, and bs mechanics / bugs at times. such as getting spotted from across the map just after starting a game. Do you think they should change certain things or keep it as it currently is?
The ST Emil is one of my most played tanks actually. Not because I wanted to but because I was new to the game and had no premium account, reserves, bonuses, blueprints or anything to help with the grind so I just played like 200 something games in it. I remember it being so painful and once I had the Rhm it was like night and day.
I remember skipping the VK 30.01 P, Or rather the modules since it was horrible as stock and after getting all modules it became my favourite T6 medium until WG added 10 tons reclassified it as a heavy and gave it no buffs to make it fit in as a heavy.
Its gun depression allows you to peak on unexpected places which is something you can use. Not on map like Ensk, but on bigger maps it can be strong advantage.
I played the Sturer Emil on WoT Blitz and when I played it, I performed really well actually. The gun depression and strength was all I needed. I did know about the poor armor and speed, but for me, it still was very good and kept when I got the Borsig.
WoT Blitz plays very differently though, plus being able to play it on PC vs mobile users is just dirty. Congrats nonetheless for performing well in it, a turret-less paper tank is always a challenge.
I feel your pain. The only tank I ever skipped was the AMX 65t (really the only one, I played every line through from tier 1). I unlocked all the modules but it was still terrible so I gave up!
i played Sturer Emil before the equipment 2.0 . as stock it was just a pain. absolutely no speed, no armor, no gun. after being full and figuring out how to use the gun depression it became kinda fun. my favourite map was redshire mid hill, best place to use the gun depression and alpha. i see now with the equipment 2.0, it can work. turbo is the way to go and improved aiming unit can also help a lot.
i enjoyed this tank so much when i was grinding this line that i've kept it in my garage for years. on console, it got a buff in the last year - it now carries 23 rounds of ammo. getting into tier 7 matches with this is a blast. while it may not be considered a traditional "derp" gun - tell that to all of the tier 5-6 tanks i've trashed with this TD! i do wish it had (at least) a 265-275 premium round - so i could have a few strong shots when getting into tier 9 matches.
Hey, is that a mod or setting in the game that highlights in red hidden behind obstacles parts of enemy tanks? I can see only outlines which cause me to miss a lot of shots.
The St Emil is kinda balanced by the fact that it doesn't have premium ammo, but very high penetration on it's AP rounds. I really liked this tank, because 490 dmg is such a huge chunk of HP at tier 7, and you can even run into tier 5 tanks that you can almost kill in one shot, even with AP, and some tanks even on tier 6 you can actually kill with one shot with HE. Low tier tanks up to tier 5 I think used to have a lot less HP back in the day, too. Also, the intuition perk used to suck and nobody took it... So yeah, people still used HE against you, but not that frequently, or not on the first shot. Running out of ammo is a real risk, but there is really no equal to this tank except the SU-100Y at tier 6 with 440 dmg and 196 pen. I just noticed that the SU-100Y has a premium AP with less pen, "only" 171 (which is still pretty ok for a tier 6 TD), but with 510 dmg!!! What the hell Wargaming? Russian and premium bias much? It makes the HE on that tank totally useless, because it only has 580 dmg, barely more than the premium AP, with 65 pen. I guess you could also compare it tier for tier to the regular SU-100 which gets 390 dmg at tier 6. The SU-152 is not a good comparison, because while it has 700 dmg with AP, it has horrible penetration of only 135, so everyone shoots HE or HEAT (with 250 pen!) or uses the smaller gun for crazy DPM, but the big gun isn't a real comparison in the first place, because it is so inacurate. Fun fact: Sturer Emil basically means "stuborn donkey".
I don't remember, but I played in this tank longer when I farmed to WTE100 - it had premiums for this gun. I don't know when they removed it, but the biggest plus in this tank, for example: on top, in the bush and this gun has a perfect angle down. when it detects you, you hide behind a hill.
When I first got this tank back when the WT auf E 100 was still in the tech tree, I was really hyped to have the Ferdinand's gun at tier 7. Well, the alpha damage anyway. That, along with the gun depression, made this tank very strong on paper. But then I saw the top speed, and that was long before turbo chargers.
My heart is so full after seeing the arties initiate CQC, acting as bait, decoys and fooling the T25 AT. What comraderie I never thought to have encountered in WoT! I actually find my ears being slightly moist, like cutting onions, what is this!?!
I believe my initial expierience with St Emil was painful, while once I started getting to the end of it and the crew got better I think it progressed to just being a below-average tank with some potential due to alpha. It basically has to have a good driver with two skills or three to become playable. It never was amazing, but in some narrow cases (ridge + bushes) it could have worked well.
I never made so more ammorack-blowups to IS-3 than in the Emil. So I had much fun with it. But it was so long ago, I don´t know, if the fun still exist nowadays
Not gonna lie, when I started playing I knew the Emil 1 and 2 were really good tanks but I couldn't find them. When I read St Emil I thought it was similar to those two...Boy was I wrong xD
I only liked the St. Emil when I got the top gun, it was pretty good as long as you dont get spotted. Also only tank I ever skipped was the T28, I used blue prints to unlock it. Then free xp and more blueprints for the T95. There was absolutely no regret in my decision
I actually liked the Sturer Emil, although I admit the last time I played it, low tiers have yet to get the HP buffs, so I could one-shot Tier 5 tanks save for heavies, and sometimes even Tier 6 TDs and lights. That 128 mm gun on it really packs a punch. Too bad it only gets 15 ammo.
I dread every battle in my St. Emil, BUT... the first battle I fought in it with the 105 mm gun, I ended up with 3k damage. I haven't replicated that, but still! I was surprised.
I can understand skipping a lot of the low tiers, but the Emil is fairly decent and fun to play imo opinion. Big gun, and enough pen to not NEED to spend credits for gold ammo. Don’t let qb discourage you from using it too much. Just a thought from someone who’s played for years
Skipping the lower tiers and saying you will go back and play them later. How many years have you been playing this game? TicTok 🤣........Rock on Sir 🤘😎
The Sturer Emil is practically one of my most played tanks that I currently have in the game. With a win ratio of 52%, and two marks of excellence, it is my second most played tank with almost 1000 battles on it. I truly enjoy the St. Emil. Plus the fact that it can't use premium rounds, there is no way to cheese your way through with the tanks. Even against a couple tier IXs I am able to give them a proper beating. So for me, it is a tank that I have had lots of fun battles in.
Mobility sucks and the lack of pen on the standard rounds, as well not having gold rounds makes this thing sucks, however, when I got all the field mods, intuition and used turbo+grousers it became useful and actually fun to play, specially against T6 where there are lots of tanks with no armor.
I remember st.emil should be packing like 500 or 600 damage from before, that is why it only have 15 rounds. Because it obliterates T7/T6 tank match up.
The poor hp/t ratio can be explained by the fact that the chassis is from a Tiger I prototype and because they mounted a huge heavy 128 mm gun on top of it.
this tank is the true apotheosis of skill. i'm surprised they didn't pull an m3 lee on this tank and just replace it with a gw-panther like tank with the 12.8 pak. super awesome if you can get it right, although the low shell count and horrid mobility set it back against the jagdpanther.
Two actually saw service, with the one that was captured showing 22 kills. The other was probably similar in damage done but was destroyed in fighting. Yes, it is basically a big artillery gun with tracks added. So I can see why it was kept. Though, I think they should have kept the Ferdinand in the tree as the Borsig was only a dream on paper, because the Ferdinand saw a lot of service (91 built). Basically Ferdinand Porsche looked at the Emil and said, I can make something better. Porsche being Porsche, after all :)
Sturer emil was awesome when it came out, hard to play but skilled player could use it`s advantages. 400m base viewrange, nobody really shot gold back then, tanks generally weren`t as fast, there wasn`t any EBR`s, maps were more open and had places where you could use your -15 degrees, where other tanks simply didn`t work, but WG nerfed viewrange when rebalanced all TDs and time did the rest now
Realistically it would be higher chance of ammorack since extra rounds would be stored outside the superstructure? Though having a smaller engine to allow for more space would be somewhat realistic, I guess
Hur jeda meg, som barn han var. Ej værre tænkes kan. Og Emil var det nam han bar. Ja Emil hetter han. Old Swedish folk song about the most impossible boy in Småland, Sweden. Now yell out loud. - Emil! - His father usually gets hurt by his pranks. Like a very hot plate placed on a stomach in pain. It was fun to watch.
Same vehicle I never played a single game in. Unfortunately the amount of time wasted on other vehicles didn't help. So I terminated service two years ago.
I didn't JUST skip the T25/2. I actually bought it and then sold it on the same day. Not because it is the worst tank tier for tier in the game, but because it was basically worse than the hellcat (not tier for tier, actually worse) even though it is supposed to be an upgrade.
I loved trolling nature of St. Emil. Enjoyed KV-2 of TDs, as I called it. But I've skipped Churchill VII and Black Prince, and that seems like the best spent blueprints ever.
my first tank line was soviet heavies, i was often frustrated by the limited gun depression. this made me thing gun depression was the most important stat in the game. i looked up tanks with great gun depression and fount st emil. i was looking forward to playing it, i was excited when i unlocked it. imagine my disappointment when i found just how slow and unarmored and awkward it was. it DID have epic gun depression, which was nice if you could make it work. that gun would depress so far, you could shoot yourself in the foot if you weren't careful ;)

A vehicle that retains a high degree of historical character is simply unbelievable for today's game.
But didnt u say u skipped the french artillery when u played it on ur best non-premium video?
Aside from the ammo capacity, I actually really enjoyed this TD more so than the Rhm. Borsig.
I struggled my way through the ST Emil. It is very difficult to win in but I still to this day play the ST Emil.
Good teamwork from the arties at the end of the game. Nice to see.
The worst thing about it is the huge amount of XP to get the top gun. I saved free XP to skip the default gun but it was quite a chunk.
Sturer Emil got a crazy depression angle so i rarely go to a hill and just lower myself so I wont get shot
My goodness I remember that grind. Absolutely awful tonk when I was grinding it years ago.
Just a thought from someone who’s played for years
I remember struggling with this. Don't even have Borsig. 46 battles with 52% WR.
Skipping the lower tiers and saying you will go back and play them later. How many years have you been playing this game? TicTok 🤣........Rock on Sir 🤘😎
Mother-in-law analogy was pretty funny!!
I just picked this up last night and then this drops. Awesome
Nice teamwork at the end.
So for me, it is a tank that I have had lots of fun battles in.
also don't having a premium ammo means no output for credits which I like being as a poor player who can't spend money on games
Mobility sucks and the lack of pen on the standard rounds, as well not having gold rounds makes this thing sucks, however, when I got all the field mods, intuition and used turbo+grousers it became useful and actually fun to play, specially against T6 where there are lots of tanks with no armor.
This tank is the sole reason I didn't get to play the wt auf e100 before it got removed. I hated it so much that I stopped playing the line
I remember st.emil should be packing like 500 or 600 damage from before, that is why it only have 15 rounds. Because it obliterates T7/T6 tank match up.
Ah yes, the MemEmil. Only tank I played onces, said nah and never played it again. 🙃
Recommend for doing a "Worst tanks" series to match your best tanks series! Let's see the PAIN ;)
In War Thunder this tank plays similarly, it’s only good for defense and ammo isn’t an issue because you one shot 99% of the time
The stubborn one is such a nice tank. this canon is so much fun ...
this is the first video in a decade about the sturer emil, it just doesn't exist
I played with this td some years ago, 2015-2016 I think. I remember I absolutely loved it. This, and the Nashorn as well😁
15 rounds lol. You missed 3 shots, that's 20% of your total potential damage. Crazy!
The poor hp/t ratio can be explained by the fact that the chassis is from a Tiger I prototype and because they mounted a huge heavy 128 mm gun on top of it.
Did i hear QB wants you to put him as the commander of this true *beast*? Ok
this tank is the true apotheosis of skill. i'm surprised they didn't pull an m3 lee on this tank and just replace it with a gw-panther like tank with the 12.8 pak. super awesome if you can get it right, although the low shell count and horrid mobility set it back against the jagdpanther.
400m base viewrange, nobody really shot gold back then, tanks generally weren`t as fast, there wasn`t any EBR`s, maps were more open and had places where you could use your -15 degrees, where other tanks simply didn`t work, but WG nerfed viewrange when rebalanced all TDs and time did the rest now
A field mod that lets you compromise power to weight, for more ammo would be great.
Realistically it would be higher chance of ammorack since extra rounds would be stored outside the superstructure?
Though having a smaller engine to allow for more space would be somewhat realistic, I guess
@@buahcs I meant because the tank would be heavier with more ammo, hence the lower power to weight.
@@JRHainsworth that is true
The stock grind is what killed this tank for me. I gave up before I even got the top gun.
Anyway to convince you to re-tackle t28 prototype?
Fabulous Grille at Tier X... yeah, I laughed!
Same vehicle I never played a single game in.
Unfortunately the amount of time wasted on other vehicles didn't help. So I terminated service two years ago.
Took me years to appreciate how emil can be good
7:30 that's a large aimsight you have there qb
I didn't JUST skip the T25/2. I actually bought it and then sold it on the same day. Not because it is the worst tank tier for tier in the game, but because it was basically worse than the hellcat (not tier for tier, actually worse) even though it is supposed to be an upgrade.
What’s the chances that I just happened to grind through this thing yesterday? 😂
I loved trolling nature of St. Emil. Enjoyed KV-2 of TDs, as I called it.
But I've skipped Churchill VII and Black Prince, and that seems like the best spent blueprints ever.
The Churchill VII is pretty fun, but the BP is a real pain.
It was a painful grind. Even with the top gun it's a bit less painful but still painful.
i skipped the entire american td line from the jackson to the t28 and now have a t95 with the 105
Ammo count balancing is some of the worst in this game. Some tanks magically get 3x what they can hold and some get shafted for absolutely no reason.
I actually loved the sturer emil, one of my favourite tanks. There’s just something about taking off half of a tank’s hp’s in one shot
If the St. Emil were to be replaced, what would be a good candidate?
my first tank line was soviet heavies, i was often frustrated by the limited gun depression. this made me thing gun depression was the most important stat in the game. i looked up tanks with great gun depression and fount st emil. i was looking forward to playing it, i was excited when i unlocked it. imagine my disappointment when i found just how slow and unarmored and awkward it was. it DID have epic gun depression, which was nice if you could make it work. that gun would depress so far, you could shoot yourself in the foot if you weren't careful ;)
Being a goober, I try and turbo everything; nothing is ever fast enough.
M3 Lee. It was painful.
