I worked with Maureen in 1979-1983. She didn't look like that. Not even close, I wouldn't have recognized her in this performance if I didn't know it was her. Her voice is incredibly distinctive. And I was a life long friend of Andy Williams right up to his opening a theatre in Branson. The very sad thing about Maureen is she is now about 74-75 and in hospice in Ohio. She has dementia. But what really chaffed me is when she signed with a manager/agent (husband and wife team) and they took 40% of everything she made. Standard practice is 10% agent and 15% manager, so they were taking about 15% more than they should have been. Seems like there is a lot that that going on. NKOTB (which I also worked with) were giving up 60% to a crook who is now in prison and they had to sue to get out of the contact and part of their money back. But not to worry. Mark Wahlberg is worth about $400M and Donnie is worth around $25-30M. I would never have predicted that about Mark way back when. He surprised us all.
Where did this woman with such a powerful voice came from she's done quite a few songs but all of them blew me away with her fantastic one of a kind voice I only wished she stay singing longer she sang with such devotion her voice so devastating she was definitely one woman to watch her do what she's done so well and that's sing
I'm melting I just melted! Tears in my eyes. Can't speak. What a songbird! It doesn't matter that Karen sang this. This is such a wonderful version on its own. The tone, the pitch, the announciation of the lyrics! This ss just an absolute work of art and a great tune that Paul Williams wrote with Roger Nichols. Just fabulous writing period.
Love “Didn’t We Almost Have It All!” , “ Can You Read My Mind!” and “ We May Never Love Like This Again!” all her hit songs! Love from Philippines!🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
Beautiful voice beautiful female artist ms. Maureen ( morning after ) McGovern sweetness singing this beautiful cover I won't last a day without you even more beautiful than ever before lovely and elegantly stunningly wonderful.
Nice rendition and I've also listened to Barbra Streisand, Paul Williams and Karen Carpenter... While they are all good Karen Carpenter absolutely owns this song! ❤️
She was the female Kenny Loggins, the queen of the movie and television soundtracks: from Superman, Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno, Gold, Angie. Beautiful, distinctive voice
Alexander A I’m not talking about videos. I’m talking about like music, movies and stuff like that released in 2003. Like Marilyn Manson’s golden age of grotesque album and Madonna’s American life album were released in 2003. Madonna also performed Hollywood and kissed Britney and Christina that year. A lot in 2003 I see and know. Glad to be born from 2003 ✌️😎 honestly tho stay safe and well please!
I am so proud to have been born in the year 1973. Society was beautiful and classy and knew what sex they were, men were handsome and women were beautiful.
Interpretation can change everything about a song. McGovern is a fine performer but this rendition feels strident and misses the feelings loneliness and alienation that the verses express. Karen owns it.
An arrangement is the back bone of a song. Compare this to the Carpenters’ version then come back to this one. Clearly the Carpenters have the definitive recording.
Not bad. But I think the Carpenters' version is best for the arrangement and Karen is best at the verse: But Streisand kills the chorus. And because of that Streisand's version is the best of the three.
Andy had one of the great pop voices of his era, an emmy winning TV show, and sold millions of albums, NOT all Mancini compositions. Take that to your deli.
karen, if she can sing what maureen can..Karen voice has limitation, it just sound good...But i dont think karen can reach maureen high notes..Maureen has a lot of movie soundtrack music..
Carpenters was supposed to be the first to release this song but decided to release it as a single later on in 1974. Maureen’s version only made the song #14 in the billboard charts for adult contemporary. The Carpenters made the song #1. As good a singer Maureen is, Karen’s voice turns every song golden.
This song was written in 1972 for Richard and Karen by Paul Williams and Roger Nichols. And it only has a bridge because Karen requested it. When Paul and Roger first sent it to them, it didn't have a bridge, so it was added before Karen and Richard recorded it. Maureen is fine, but there's a warmth and articulation that Karen brought to this song that no one else ever did. It's strange that such a signature tune for them with such power only went to #11 in 1974 on the Billboard chart...
@@Leftatalbuquerque I've heard that before, but I never really could detect any changes in Michael Jackson's voice, and he probably had a dozen nose jobs...
As a Maureen McGovern fan, I hate to be the turd in the punchbowl here but this performance is not her best and she looks like Andrea Martin in a Party City wig.

I was born in the late fall of 1978. I Like and I Love the Extremely Talented Actress and Singer Beautiful Maureen McGovern! Excellent Video!

One of the best performances at the grammy awards..
Fabulous voice from back in the day when people actually watched awards shows. Grammy’s and Academy Awards are unwatchable nowadays.
Love “Didn’t We Almost Have It All!” , “ Can You Read My Mind!” and “ We May Never Love Like This Again!” all her hit songs! Love from Philippines!🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
The Morning After too of course!
@@mrlafayette1964 Gee.she's a great singer- pleasure to listen to.I feel she is a little bit underrated though.
My favorite Maurreen McGovern song is WE COULD HAVE IT ALL
I always loved Maureen’s version of this beautiful song.
Beautifully sang song:such emotion, enunciation
Beautiful woman and great singer, I love her music.
Another great Paul Williams song
...and music by Roger Nichols.
Love Maureen, no one can touch her 'The Morning After", but I love Karen forever on this.
Exactly.
You are very right.
Yeah, the Carpenters version is the quintessential one. But, Paul and Roger wrote it for them, so it makes sense.
What great songs by a wonderful singer❤
I love her annunciation of words. So interesting
Got to see her in concert in 1992, Great voice
I was in her fan club in 1973. This brought back memories.
That's pretty awesome !
You were the one eh
I am also a fan Of her...since i heard "we could have it all" her song...
Love ❤️ her! I think she has an interesting interpretation of song!' Love her voice and tone!
Beautiful voice beautiful female artist ms. Maureen ( morning after ) McGovern sweetness singing this beautiful cover I won't last a day without you even more beautiful than ever before lovely and elegantly stunningly wonderful.
Yeah, but she's no Karen Carpenter.
Magnificent.
Thank you so much for uploading this historical performance here!
Estos si son les verdaderos Grammys, no como ahora con puro regueton y sin buena música. Saludos desde Lima, Perú.
Andy Williams and Maureen McGovern, Paul McCartney and Gato Barbieri are true First class entertainment. Paul should have won hands down.
Divina Maureen!!!😊
real talent live singing no auto tune with the ranks of Karen Carpenter, Marilyn McCoo, Helen Reddy , linda Ronstandt
Linda Ronstadt is in a class all by herself.
I have always loved her. I think she had plastic surgery and turned herself into a glamorous star! She already had the voice
que buen recuerdo de una gran interprete y una bella cancion ,,👍👍👍
Karen Carpenter also sang this song. Both she and Maureen gave beautiful, soulful performances of it.
Great memories
Que voz sensacional 🌹🌹🌹
Gracias por compartir esas epocas hermosas canciones como xxx antantes
Cantantes que crecio la musica hermosa y que interpretaron unicos y clase viva pasada epoca y oy es un recuerdo.
Had this 45 & album -and remember hearing it on the radio
김수현 have albums as well & all 45s except THE BOTTOM LINE I wish someone would publish here
Nice rendition and I've also listened to Barbra Streisand, Paul Williams and Karen Carpenter... While they are all good Karen Carpenter absolutely owns this song! ❤️
A Paul Williams classic
He wrote the lyrics. Roger Nichols wrote the music
Thank you very much for the extra information. Much appreciated
A magical voice gifted to humanity.
musica maravilhosa e a voz então fantastica.
Que voz realmente magnífica.
"Não durarei um dia sem ti", linda música e ela igualmente.
She was the female Kenny Loggins, the queen of the movie and television soundtracks: from Superman, Poseidon Adventure, Towering Inferno, Gold, Angie. Beautiful, distinctive voice
Love it...
Beautiful voice...interesting hair.
She may not sing it quite as good as Karen Carpenter, but she still sings it good!!
✌️♥️🇵🇭 thank you for uploading this.
Wow! Although I wasnt born yet in 1973, but this is so nostalgic. Seems like I already lived that era.
Was born this year. Of course my birth is irrelevant, but it’s just amusing for me to think of the events that took place that time 😊
I feel you lol I get excited over things from 2003 bc I was born then
miztwigz ...😂😂😂 shouldn’t you be looking at videos from 2003 then?

What a contrast between this and the modern Grammys. Hate to say not for the better.
Andy Williams. RIP
Wow grammy production values have come only a small way!
LOL!
@@zeissfan06, where did you take this song?
She's terrific. Makes the song her own. I think Paul Williams wrote this for the carps.
Roger Nichols wrote the music. Paul Williams wrote the lyrics.
Yes, it was originally intended for the Carpenters.
Paul Williams did a couple songs for the carpenters
Carps! I like that. I know you meant no disrespect to Karen and Richard. Just a cute abbreviation.
Back then when the singer's voice carried the song , no fancy stage effects, drowning loud beats and vulgarities.😢
Such a little gem ...
Great to hear Maureen singing a Carpenters song!
She sang it good...l know Karen sings the songs with gusto dropping octaves at any giving time. Maureen did good..
Pride of Youngstown, Ohio.
実にアメリカ人の歌手と言う姿が期待道理で良い。タワーリング・インフェルノのあの主題歌を歌った人に、会えて嬉しい。
Commenting thumbs up for Neil diamond's Jonathan Livingston seagull.
❤❤
Her famous song was the morning after which was featured in the movie the posidon adventure
so if any of us ever leave we will take the rest of us with you
Awesome
thats all of us we depend on each other
2023年にタワーリング・インフェルノのリバイバル観てこの曲はほんの数秒でしたが、1975年にロードショーだった時を思い出しました。
Nominees were Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Gato Barbieri, McCartneys & Wings, Taj Mahal !
Carpenter's song !
Interpretation can change everything about a song. McGovern is a fine performer but this rendition feels strident and misses the feelings loneliness and alienation that the verses express. Karen owns it.
One reason it sounds bad is the key. That song does not sound good in this key. KAren sing it in G... and this is F.
The arrangement blows, not her fault.
Im perplexed. Ugky in 73 imo
Pretry at 72 grammys
Amazing woman and so beautiful and so cute and adorable kiss your lips 💋 and hug my sweetheart.
The best version
This song was written for the Carpenters, and I think their version outshines all the other versions...
moi aussi je ferai tout pour te rendre le plus heureux. ❤❤DR ❤❤

Rip andy william...
Kesha never looked better!
She sings it very well, not quite as good as Karen Carpenter though....
Different voices, but the range is clearly superior
Interesting seeing her as a blonde.
Nicely done. Karen Carpenter is still the best artist to sing this song though.
So far from KC's perfection.
They clap hands before she finish the song LOL But could be ONLY her, WITHOUT that man speaking on the beginning of the video!!
Maybe they hurriedly and enthusiastically clapped their hands to get rid of her!
Unimpressed by this version.
@@lennylaa1686It's the worst version of this song I have ever heard, and that includes Barbara Streisand's version.

Who's original Karen or Maureen ?
Karen Carpenter!
Paul Williams and Roger Nichols wrote the song for the Carpenters, and they were the first ones who recorded, and in my opinion have the best version.
Not bad. But I think the Carpenters' version is best for the arrangement and Karen is best at the verse: But Streisand kills the chorus. And because of that Streisand's version is the best of the three.
She did it before Karen Carpenter and one of the few times I can say that I prefer someone else's version over Karen's.
Maureen's singing technique is too good to be over-act. Less is more beautiful!
there is sons in hell now
Highly trained, not a. Good natural talent

Andy Williams was a real sob
Elevator muzak performer
Without Hank Mancini, he'd be slicing salami in a deli
Andy had one of the great pop voices of his era, an emmy winning TV show, and sold millions of albums, NOT all Mancini compositions. Take that to your deli.

Can You Read My Mind is her best I think.
Carpenters took this right away from the fabulous Maureen McGovern. She cut her hair, had rhinoplasty and became stellar.
A singer having a nose job is a big decision - it changes the instrument.
Carpenters was supposed to be the first to release this song but decided to release it as a single later on in 1974. I love this song more than the Carpenters’ version. This is before Maureen got her nose job.
As a Maureen McGovern fan, I hate to be the turd in the punchbowl here but this performance is not her best and she looks like Andrea Martin in a Party City wig.
That seems so over acted compared to Karen Carpenter. This is a love song. Not a Broadway performance
Yeah, her melodramatic stylings don't work for this song...Karen and Richard's version is the best hands down.
Richard and Karen were in the audience for this show,...cringing I assume.
En el 2023, solo reconocen, recuerdan y escuchan a The Carpenters....
Stick to your own songs leave it to Karen
...and Richard to arrange it.
Lol
Totally agree. Nobody should go anywhere near Karen's repertoire, you can't improve on perfection.

Oh golly. She's pretty bad 🤪
So 70s sunshine
