"I Will Always Love You" is a song written and originally recorded in 1973 by American singer-songwriter Dolly Parton. Written as a farewell to her business partner and mentor Porter Wagoner, expressing Parton's decision to pursue a solo career,[1] the country single was released in 1974. The song was a commercial success for Parton, twice reaching the top spot of Billboard Hot Country Songs: first in June 1974, then again in October 1982, with a re-recording for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas soundtrack. Whitney Houston recorded a soul-ballad arrangement of the song for the 1992 film The Bodyguard. .... ;)
Both Sheena and Whitney’s version were amazing. But I prefer Whitney’s version more. Maybe it’s the first version I heard so it gave me the impression deeply.
This is amazing. This is hard to do well and differently. Sheena’s range is incredible. She can do the most beautiful balllad, she can be smooth and she can do feisty, Scot.. she should be the pride of Scotland. She has been the most successful Scottish singer that we know She took all that, and made it global. An underrated megastar.
Ummm... You've heard of Rod Stewart, right? He might've been born "down the road a bit" - but the lads got roots. Sheena was my biggest crush, back in the day - and I had a few signed photos of her up on the wall. The only one ever to be posted up there, oddly.
OH MY GAWD!!!!! How did I not know this existed? I am a lifelong Sheena Easton fan. I have always loved this song. That the two are combined..... How did I miss this? Her voice is so pure and her interpretation is so spot on. Filled with beauty and just a touch of regret. Emotive and sweet and I am reminded why I have been in love with her for nearly forty years.
Me neither! And I absolutely love Sheena Easton, always have. Did you hear her version of wind beneath my wings? It’s just as incredible as this one. That lady has a voice of an angel.

Dolly, doesn’t like to sing this song anymore. (Too many past emotions), yet still performs. Linda Ronstandt is no longer able to perform. Sheena still performs, and occasionally sings this song. (Only Dolly, and Sheena, gave this song it’s TRUE, EMOTIONAL PERSPECTIVE). Whitney is dead.

Same here. I have been a fan of hers for more than 30 years. I never heard this before. Her cover of it is beautiful. So is her cover of Amazing Grace at the beginning of this clip.
The singer who “shouted out this song” had a much more successful career than Easton and by the way Kubrick’s vision of the “Shinning” is better than yours.
Sheena’s interpretation has a purity and sincerity that holds its own against Dolly’s simplicity and tenderness, and Whitney’s passion and power. In all cases, the interpretations are beautiful. The song itself is beautiful.
Let’s don’t forget the Dolly Parton who wrote words and music meant to deliver in that timing and phasing. The others are good especially Whitney’s, but remember they are not interpretations but sung to their own strengths.
Nobody can't tell me that this particular cover wasn't Kevin Costner's inspiration and infatuation with this song. He knew it would be a hit if sung by the right singer. Comes along Whitney and swings it out of the park. BUT, this particular version was not massified and very very few knew about it. It is massively underrated and dare I say there's a certain charm and softness to it that it surpasses Whitney's cover, at least emotionally. What Sheena lacked in volume and power made up in vocal beauty. Very tastefully done. It all comes down to a matter of taste. In terms of singing and technical ability, Sheena is right up there with the very best in the industry!
@philhenderson3516 It was first a hit in the 1970s sung by the writer Dolly Parton. It was also the big song of the 1980s hit movie “The Best Little Whore House in Texas.” Staring Dolly and Burt Reynolds.
