The trident slowly has become my favorite oscillator since I added it to my rack about two years ago. It can go all bonkers if you want to, or do very traditional synth sounds, and when in sync it has that hard sync sound that reminds me of the old Roland System 100. Very versatile, exceptional building quality for eurorack, and perhaps more importantly, I got it when the price was half of what it is now. I wouldn't pay $900 for it no matter how great it is.
rules really like mine, really growns on you, kind same feeling i had with the evolution filter(which i got 4 of ha) really playfull with the sync /track buttons and stuff great to improvice, sounds awesome
A M A Z I N G L Y. BRILLANT USE OF IT . YOU DESERVE TO BE PART OF ROSSUM E-Mu AS A TOP SOUND DESIGNER. I bought many rossum modules because of your videos!!! If you could do some more tutorials for beginners will be awesome. Thanks a lot . Stay safe , cheers
Man eurorack has the pull of a black hole! I have a few semi Modular’s (first attempt to stay away from eurorack). Then tried the 1/4 inch only rule (sherman/sub 27/ cp351). But the Rossum Morpheus got me. So I Made a pact with myself to only build a stereo audio processor, (custom effects box if you will) Would love the trident but it’s going to lead me down the I need many envelopes , vca’s etc….🤦🏻 Going to try appease this demon by getting the evolution filter instead 😂 Enjoyed listening though cheers 👍 really interesting design. Build quality on the Morpheus is outstanding & I imagine this is the same. Dare I watch those assimal8r vids again 🤔
How about some computer integration like VCV Rack and Expert Sleepers devices? Or Bitwig/Ableton CV tools? then you can send out all sorts of envelopes and control for the modules too?
Excellent video as always! A really fantastic-sounding module. Dave (Rossum) was showing it off to me recently and you could tell that a lot of thought went into this module and they're quite proud of it. Maybe a worthy alternative to Cs-L? Is that a fair comparison?
D B Pawlan My thoughts exactly. I was prepared to purchase a CSL in two weeks. Having seen this video, though, it strikes me that this one is much more musically useful, at least, with less effort.
Thanks again for a great vid. Will you be doing one for the SWN? It looks potentially great but I just haven’t seen anything that blew my mind yet. And you’re the man!
Yes, they are very nice. The knobs feel very good, although they are actually pretty regular ones from taking it off and looking. I think you can but the same kind for very cheap on Amazon. But they are not low quality. The layout is odd here. Definitely an engineering layout and not a musical one. Seems the patch points and knobs are simply where they are closest on the pcb. Given Rossums reputation, I would be that the pros and cons of pcb grounding or or some other engineering concern was discussed when optimizing the layout. Not easy to fit 24 knobs, 18 patch points and 6 buttons on anything really.
Loving my trident but kinda feel the need to double check. Is it kinda normal that when activating sync and track on all osc. Turning up zing on alot of the carrier osc just results in a loss off amplitude. Especially when the coarse of said modulating osc is quite low
We could say that about loads of modules no? Lots of great stuff out there and not enough time to cover it all. I have one and have played around and got some nice results. I'd definitely like to in the future.
I suppose that’s fair. But man alive the modwiggler discussion on it is funny. When it’s not pedantically arguing over whether Panharmonium is similar to clouds, it’s all “I don’t understand this module I need a divkid demo”
ah ok I didn't realise that was the case. I really appreciate people wanting to see that. Good to know. Thanks. I'm overdue a good dig around and chat on Muff Wiggler, I tend to hang out in Discord more than anything now.
Slew it or use a filter or waveshaper to sine it. That’s the only thing that all these triangle core oscillators are doing for a sine anyways. I’m not quite sure that I’ve run into a scenario where I wanted a sine and doing this would somehow not work just as well.
Im just starting my eurorack setup and want a great stable module for my core synth voices. What do you think of Trident vs Verbos Complex dual osc? Or would you recommend another osc module?
@@GuitarsAndSynths I forgot about this post from a year ago. I did buy the trident... then sold it because I was not thrilled with the interface but probably it was too advanced for a beginner. I now have a ACL VCO and a Nano ONA VCO. Both sound great and easy to use.
there are so many multi-osc combo VCOs like this, with amazing FM inputs, as well as other mathematical parameters. But then they ruin it by not providing a sine wave out. I would exclusively use this thing if it only put out sines. Just my opinion I guess...
Ace cakes it is, then. Love me my Rossum, but good grief is that subtitle for the Trident a terrible turn of language approximation. Best just to say it’s a triple oscillator and to leave it there. The module deserves better - it’s another masterpiece for Rossum. That Stereo Dipole is fabulous as well, though I didn’t comment there. I can’t keep up with all the compelling modules coming out in the last few years. Money is the issue. There is certainly no lack of good modules. Speaking of money, someone with enough of a user base and modules to sell really ought to release a good-quality power/rack-case combination on a subsidized basis, just to address that huge barrier to entry. Most people who resist all this stuff in modular cite the cost of the cases and power supplies (on top of the necessary utility modules) as maybe the major hurdle preventing them from buying appealing products like these. Not that these two companies are candidates, but maybe a group of module producers could do it as a consortium. It seems like the field could still grow quite a bit even among current synthesizer buyers. Oh well, ace cakes will have to do for now.
I could easy see myself having ignored this at first glance if it had been subtitled something as generic and useless as triple oscillator. On top of that it would be misleading as providing three discreet oscillators is far from the purpose of this module.
So, Doctor, “Multi-Synchronic (sic) Oscillator Ensemble” tells you something helpful or interesting about the module? No - the demonstrations, by Ben and by Rossum people, show the obvious value in the module. Just looking at it tells you it is more than a simple triple oscillator. The word salad I quoted adds nothing to that but a bit of cringe. To me, having no subtitle at all would be better than what they printed there. A subtitle tells you the author harbors doubts about the title, as though somehow the title (usually one with a broad resonance that looks, in the end, to the author or editor, too opaque to stand on its own) needs an explanation. Here, the thing is clearly an oscillator, “Trident” implies a triple, and all those holes and knobs and buttons tell you it does some tricks. It being a Rossum, most likely customers already understand the product will be worth a closer look and that it will have some distinguishing selling point. Only real marketing copy (supplemented by a technical paper, optionally) or/and a demo will tell you about all the juicy details. A subtitle can’t do that, and in practice they never do that work. Could a better subtitle be written - one that does the normal subtitle thing of clarifying a clever title that does not serve the descriptive purpose of a title? Yes, of course, but “Trident” on its own would be fine. If you find the subtitle speaks to you in the way you suggest (say, if you decided to watch this video on account of interest the subtitle inspired), that datum of taste shall find no dispute here. I can tell you from long experience with language and selling things that not many people give something like that phrase a first look, let alone a second. Again, the module is superb, which is what matters. The subtitle could be much better.
Bibi like I said I hadn’t made it through the whole video. The interludes do because they’re examples of the synth in a full production setting. But a lot of this video is the raw sound, so it’s weird that this person is complaining about how there isn’t raw sound.
Looks like a winner. Particularly seems more friendly for melodic use than a typical complex oscillator.
I just woke up. It's nice to start the day with some ace cakes. Thanks Ben!
I love this module so powerful and brings instant 80s new wave tones- fun to pair with Morpheus Z Plane filter.

How much was it when you got it?
Probably around 600-700$. Dunno why price went up
Another superb module from Rossum!
Lil Erebus is on Reverb. Need this. Thank you for helping me find my two oscillators. The soundforce DCO will compliment this nicely.

Woah the symmetry control on the saw is pretty much the [kink~] object in Max MSP but in analog. That's pretty damn neat.
Love this video! Magical sounds and beautiful sequences. The syncing is so nice👍🏻.
Zing is unbelievably musical
Excited to get mine, will hopefully be here this week! ACE CAKES!

Hi Ben / which LPG did you use in that great video, if I dare ask ?
Love rossum build quality second to none I don't get the choice of layout on this one

this part where the portal to hell opens is pretty rad
Got a timestamp (like 01:13) so I can go back to check it out and dive down the portal myself?

Damn, very impressive indeed! Maybe I should have bought this rather than a Brenso .... ?
Oh wow!!
I'm new to this stuff. Can this module create Buchla-like, West coast style sounds? Thanks😏😏😏
easily and so much more
This kind of reminds me of the Livewire AFG in a way. Lots of crazy unconventional stuff with saws and squares, ya know?
Seriously, Ben. Why haven’t you done a video on Panharmonium yet?

I just realised your DATA has a new face.
last batch they sold has black face , it’s probably one of the new ones
Hi! Is this thing ThruZero FM ?
Impressive. Shame that not one of the three oscillators has a sine wave option.
Slew it or use a filter or waveshaper to sine it. That’s the only thing that all these triangle core oscillators are doing for a sine anyways. I’m not quite sure that I’ve run into a scenario where I wanted a sine and doing this would somehow not work just as well.
@@ryanpwm Thanks for the tip/reminder!
What about the Trident + Linnaeus combo ?
That would be great!
@@DivKid I will try this combo in a few days :)
@@vincentprimault4380 I have been using Trident with Morpheus Z Plane and love it. Linnaeus is probably super ace as well.

ace cakes
this thing sounds like ace cakes
Steevio if you're reading this, i think this might finally replace your voyager
it gets moog and roland tones for days plus more- the zing is fun too
OMG !
3:41 10:48 17:58
What is happening at 20:10? Is that just the Trident running through a delay, or is there another rhythmic element behind the Trident?
I don't know but it sounds amazing.
Sounds like it's just the Trident and the LPG and the delay.

Brian Hurley Rossum‘s modules are very stable, maybe Verbos is more woody..
it is superb and great for bass and 80s type new wave sounds
