    I'm comparing the difference between the Neewer and Matthews c-stands. They are both 40" and I use both regularly for work. Which is better?

    the screw at the base of my neewer c stand stripped and now the thing spins like a helicopter. gonna go ahead and get a matthews one that also has removal legs. it cost $70-100 more than the neewer one but reading comments online, the thought process is that C stands are equipment that is supposed to last you an entire lifetime, so this is the type of equipment you don't want to cheap out on

      Guys mathews avenger american if u re serious. U can find parts to fix bolts joint fat screws knkbs shafts anything . Very important u want ur heavy metal 250 dollars stand to last and add more nu.ber instead spending money replacing broken stuff. Also not only c stands are good. Try buying heavy duty nkrmal stands of same materials of c stand chrome steal. Avenger 0020 0030 cs versions are baby pin and solid like metal. The tyles kf bolts and they re material is up to standards from these brands not somuch for the chinesse or indian they put hings just that look like they re there but there are load spexs and metal material that shd be used in the bolts and thebthreads to maintain the load capacity . The brakes also everything is how it should be dnt buy chinese unless u re hrowing money and u dnt care about the equipment u mount on😊

    We just sold and replaced allllll our Neewer C-Stands (10 of them) with these exact Black 40 inch Matthews Stands. Worth every single penny haha our Neewer Stands served us well over the last 3 years, but under heavy use (we're a corporate video production business) they really start to break down. Knuckle slip, screws strip really easily, plus the whole "brand perception" of Matthews. We would get comments all the time from hired crew that they hate Neewer and don't feel confident working with them.

    • @JohnCastillo

      Hey VivaMedia! I 100% understand the brand perception thing. As well as the long-term use. Honestly, I keep my 1 Neewer c-stand at the office for UA-cam videos these days. The rest of our kit is Matthews now (although ours are silver - not nearly as slick as matte black ones!)
      I’ve gotten the same comments before. When I showed my Gaffer the sound it made, he was appalled and refused to use it lol.

    I have the NEEWER C-Stand (it came with 2 gobos) and I've been using it for the last year. Both at home and on location with clients. Still works perfectly fine. Height is good. Easy to transport because of the removable legs. Planning on buying two others as I really like how they work.

  • @rickymcc9072
    @rickymcc9072 4 місяці тому

    Quality persists long after the cost is forgotten. For something like a C-stand it honestly shouldn't matter, but it does to me and many others. Perhaps it's just 'snobbery' but it just feels right sometimes to have well engineed stuff that you know will keep on working. That said I only indulge in quality kit when I can afford it and wouldn't get into debt just for a 'nicer' brand.
    Here in the UK, Mathews grip is darned expensive so I more typically choose Manfrotto which IMO is probably just as good. After considering Newer, Mathews, some 'no brand' Amazon Chinese versions, I just bougnt two Avenger (Manfrotto sub brand) C-stands. They are solid, excellent and IMO worth it. In future I may buy more, but know that these will also be Avengers - unless something radical happens to force a change of mind (unlikely).

Can’t say how long it will actually last but I’ve had it for almost 2 years and only paid $80 for it. So, not complaining. If it lasts another year or two I’d say I got my money’s worth for sure!

  • @playingwithlight7276
    @playingwithlight7276 3 роки тому +4

    The fixed gobo head at one end isn’t as much of a disadvantage as you may think. C stands are really designed primarily for holding flags, not lights. Having a fixed gobo head at one end is useful for that purpose as flags terminate with a male pin and thus mate with the jaws of a gobo head perfectly. This allows for freedom of movement to orient the flag as needed.

    well, id say, first find out how to use the c stand, this is basically the cornerstone stand of anything and everything light control related, plus anything else you might want to do with it! Yes there are many kinds, with different bases for different uses both indoors and outside: go offer yaself for work on production and learn(best way there is, and also the best job in the world!) Now as for usage, seeing that you also want to use it for camera mount, then even more so, the matthews with the two grip heads+arm AND add the neweer's arm with the threaded ends, then you basically have there a multi position camera thingie. My advice, go say hi at some local production company, learn as much as you can, study some more, and then go from there. Cstands are the shiznit for anything and everything.

    You video is good but lacks the perspective of using these every day over the course of a year. Matthews stands will last you a lifetime, cheaper c-stands are questionable. My flashpoint (same price point as Neewer so I would assume around same quality) lasted me about 1.5 years of moderate use and then things started stripping.
    Also those knobs? It's not silly to like them. Far from it. If you have to tighten and loosen c-stands every single work day, they are worth it. Bigger knobs means more leverage which means you have to exert less force to securely tighten and loosen them when mounting equipment to them. It also means it's a safer bet tightening them down. You're gonna' tighten and loosen them dozens and dozens and dozens of time over the course of a commercial job as a photo assistant. Multiply that over, I dunno, 200 days worked per year, and you're looking at thousands and thousanands of repetitions when you don't have to fight the knobs to make sure things are tight.

  • @DanGilman
    @DanGilman 3 роки тому

    Just picked up a Neewer C-Stand, I prefer my Flashpoint C-Stand honestly, but not by much. They're both solid but the Flashpoint feels just a hair under Savage/Matthews quality. And the Neewer feels like it's just a tad lighter than the Flashpoint and yeah the springs sound ratty by comparison to any of the other spring-cushioned ones I've used. Then again honestly for the price point I typically will go for Flashpoint over Matthews. But if price wasn't an object... Savage is God Tier (and worth twice the price) but really, it's... twice the cost of a Flashpoint.

    • @JohnCastillo
      @JohnCastillo  3 роки тому +1
