Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone was granted unprecedented access to Russian President Vladimir Putin during more than a dozen interviews over two years, with no topic off-limits. This remarkable four-part documentary series provides intimate insight into Putin's personal and professional lives, from his childhood under communism, to his rise to power, his relations with four U.S. presidents, and his surprising takes on U.S.-Russian relations today. Witness the most detailed portrait of Putin ever granted to a Western interviewer. - Розваги
I have a Russian friend who grew up during the 90s. He told me from the age of 4 or 5, he had to collect rocks together with his mum to be able to afford food. I saw a picture, he was almost starving till his early teenage years. And he wasn't alone. Putin is right about being broke. Russia was a harsh place to live in that time.
buxxi90 Russia was corrupted by then a lot my mom who grew up in Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan around 1965 it was as bad and very poor nothing to eat ... When Putin came into power he fixed the economy and paid most of the country's debt which is a huge achievement and hopefully it develops a lot more it is still recovering
я очень хорошо помню 1996 год, мне было 6 лет, бабушка мне варила суп(вода, лук, картошка, соль), а в некоторых семьях было еще хуже!
buxxi90 90s are known in Russia as "wild 90s" (лихие 90е). It was not just about the poverty and penury of the people, it was about the existence of the whole country: we had liberals in power (and their best friends were USA), we had terrorists in the North Caucasus who occupied Chechnya and wanted to do the same in Dagestan; we had terrorist attacks almost every month in the different parts of Russia; we had gangs and bandits who collected the tributes from businesses and held the markets in fear; mass killings and kidnappings were a common thing; we had oligarchs giving our country's resources for free to the West. And also there was hunger, and poverty, and financial and political crises, and default, and many other things which I remember quiet clearly. Then Putin came to power and things started to change. Now I think about those times, and all this seems like a nightmare to me.
That's what everyday in South America is like :(
Putin has done what was needed to maintain order in Russia and establish a working economy. It is stupid to compare the political and economic environment of Russia to the United States especially after the fall of the Soviet Union.
He actually answers questions and isn't a robot.
Ty Peters Exactly he doesn't need a script written by a ghostwriter for every word of his.
Ty Peters Yes! Such a rarity in world politics. I'm actually interested in what he has to say, he respects people enough to give them answers they can think about. Unlike just about every other politician I can barely look at much less listen.
Yuup sad to say but Russia knows how to comrade and put differences behind to work together i wish i can say the same for US sad but true, everyone is sucker punching other parties people just hate, and now with this Covid i see it crazier we're supposed to team up to work together to go ahead not back!!

What about the one where he threatens the world with Nuclear weapons (in so many words) if anyone gets involved in his murderous campaign in Ukraine? Monstrous enough for you?
@@ian323183 You are treating your adversary like a cartoon character. Did you actually hear what he said? He didn't threaten the world with nuclear weapons. He acknowledged that NATO is far more capable than Russia and that there would be no winners in all out war because Russia has nukes, just like her enemies.
Understand your enemies position. Don't treat it like a John Wayne movie mate.
Yeah. You cant find any. Nato is supposed to invade China and force em to be a Republic that represents people. Theyr not doing that, but Nato was created to end Comunism. Not doing that either... And Putin somehow is the bad guy. Clown world.
Look to the cities he has invaded, ask the women who got raped by his 315000 dead or wounded soldiers that he is pulling out of minority’s like the Muslims in Dagestan, ask his economy who he is willing to risk to full collapse just to get Ukraines industrial complex and their people back to the Russian empire. He already lost 5500 Tanks and 10000 armed vehicles to get 55% of Donezk.
The problem is, when the media constantly paints Putin as the worst possible human, and then hear him answer questions reasonably and coherently. The contrast is is difficult to grasp.

I watched the interview. Putin really didn't give a shit about the Reagan question. At least he was nice about it and answered.
Reagan destabilized the former SU's economy by attacking its currency and the rest is history. Why would Putin be happy to paint Reagan in any kind of light? Leave the s**t in the dark.

I've seen the whole four hours and loved it.

Russia has 5 overseas bases, the US has about 600.
It's a great series of interviews, very informative.

After 4 hours did you realise he spoke more facts, more meaningful stuff than democratic leaders worldwide...
Where is the interviews?
Would love to watch the full series. Fascinating interview.
I admire Reagan but Putin is tantalising with his answers! So witty!
feeling broke and actually being broke are two different things, yes lol Putin is right
It is an extraordinary thing for a leader to grant such extensive access and thorough insight while in office.
I don't think people realize what vital role Regan played in breaking up Yugoslavia. The movie Weight of Chains does a great job explaining that situation.
Comparing the state of Russia and the US at Reagans time is simply not possible. There were massive problems in Russia beyond the economics, what Putin managed to organize out of that chaos is impressive. Even if the present state is very centralized and authoritarian. A different person and Russia might have been a complete wasteland.
The only difficulty is retaining power. Once you do, a child would organise that economy. Russia has abundant minerals, energy resources and raw materials. Putin is just stripping Russia, selling it, to fuel his own vanity and ego of a Soviet Empire. What has Russia produced that people want to buy? He is highly charismatic, but an egotistical and dangerous con man and killer.
That would be probably for the best.
Putin schooling Oliver Stone in reality...
Это же какие нервы надо иметь, что бы выдержать всё
President Putin has clarity of thought and precision action
In the 90's the Russian government parceled off the Russian Treasury to each citizen. The to-be oligarchs saw their opportunity and robbed the people blind. It's a fascinating piece of history and shines a lot of light on why their country is the way it is today. Worth studying up on.
I think they had to do that. Remember they were coming out of communism where private ownership of anything was against the law. So to spur à capitalist system they had to start passing out funds to get the economy going.
The Russian government corrupted by the representatives & insiders of the USA parcelled off the Russian Treasury & Russian Army Munitions & Resources to the USA citizens.
That's where the story starts....The majority of Russian people of that time & officials of the government CONSIDERED & still consider Leonid Gorbachev (sorry, Mikhail Gorbachev) as a Crappy & Mean Betrayer of the whole USSR nation.
The Russian of the 90s was like a pet that the state released into the wild. The level of knowledge of the market economy was equal to zero. I remember that time: no one knew where to invest their share from privatization. Most of them foolishly spent their vouchers, but some of the smart ones got rich off of it.

@@Recoba57 yeah, why would someone that had respect for Putin not have it now? I personally have more respect for him now. He knew the consequences of crossing this rubicon, and he did it anyway. He had legitimate reasons for invading Ukraine. As an American, I blame the US and NATO for not being able to respect the security concerns of Russia in order to secure peace. We lie and lie and lie. We never negotiate in good faith. We promised Putin in 1991 that NATO wouldn’t expand past Germany. Every serious expert on the matter predicted that our actions, if unchanged, would result in conflict.

Putin is an intelligent man, and a politician (whatever you think of him). Reagan was an ideologically driven B-movie actor (who also happened to be Governor).
Not only is Putin a madman and user of anabolic steroids but he’s also a war criminal.
Reagan was also highly intelligent.
Don't forget Reagan was who called the USSR "the evil empire". And Putin loved this empire..
Probably loved the empire but not its ideology and government system.
British Empire was also evil but British are proud of that 😆😆😆
Actually Putin was a bit of a critic of the Soviet Union. There were just a few elements of it that he did love but felt the way it was structured wasn’t sustainable
You can't find any source that says he loved the USSR. He regarded the collapse of the USSR as a geopolitical tragedy, but that's quite different.
You can't really forget something which was never said. Putin never stated he loved the USSR. He stated whoever doesn't miss the USSR has no heart Whoever wants it back has no brain.
You cant compare that shit, for example my father was working as a doctor in the 90s in Moldova, a gang leader got shot in the stomach with ak, and his members brought him to the hospital. They were heavily armed with aks 47 and said :" If he doesnt survive this night, we gonna kill everyone in the hospital". That was just a typical work day. Also father of my best friend worked in the 90s in border control and once a black suv with 3-4 guys drove to his house, when his dog started to bell he took an ak under his bed went out and said "ну давайте ребята" then they drove away. There was literally no government, my neighbour worked as a policemen and their office was set on fire, in the shootout he got shot in the chin, he could not speak properly for like 10-15 years. This all shit ended only when the soviet army was forced to come in 1990. And this is just what i know, imagine how much happend in other parts of SSSR.
