Oscar®-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone was granted unprecedented access to Russian President Vladimir Putin during more than a dozen interviews over two years, with no topic off-limits. This remarkable four-part documentary series provides intimate insight into Putin's personal and professional lives, from his childhood under communism, to his rise to power, his relations with four U.S. presidents, and his surprising takes on U.S.-Russian relations today. I have a Russian friend who grew up during the 90s. He told me from the age of 4 or 5, he had to collect rocks together with his mum to be able to afford food. I saw a picture, he was almost starving till his early teenage years. And he wasn't alone. Putin is right about being broke. Russia was a harsh place to live in that time.

buxxi90 Russia was corrupted by then a lot my mom who grew up in Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan around 1965 it was as bad and very poor nothing to eat ... When Putin came into power he fixed the economy and paid most of the country's debt which is a huge achievement and hopefully it develops a lot more it is still recovering

buxxi90 90s are known in Russia as "wild 90s" (лихие 90е). It was not just about the poverty and penury of the people, it was about the existence of the whole country: we had liberals in power (and their best friends were USA), we had terrorists in the North Caucasus who occupied Chechnya and wanted to do the same in Dagestan; we had terrorist attacks almost every month in the different parts of Russia; we had gangs and bandits who collected the tributes from businesses and held the markets in fear; mass killings and kidnappings were a common thing; we had oligarchs giving our country's resources for free to the West. And also there was hunger, and poverty, and financial and political crises, and default, and many other things which I remember quiet clearly. Then Putin came to power and things started to change. Now I think about those times, and all this seems like a nightmare to me.

You cant compare that shit, for example my father was working as a doctor in the 90s in Moldova, a gang leader got shot in the stomach with ak, and his members brought him to the hospital. They were heavily armed with aks 47 and said :" If he doesnt survive this night, we gonna kill everyone in the hospital". That was just a typical work day. Also father of my best friend worked in the 90s in border control and once a black suv with 3-4 guys drove to his house, when his dog started to bell he took an ak under his bed went out and said "ну давайте ребята" then they drove away. There was literally no government, my neighbour worked as a policemen and their office was set on fire, in the shootout he got shot in the chin, he could not speak properly for like 10-15 years. This all shit ended only when the soviet army was forced to come in 1990. And this is just what i know, imagine how much happend in other parts of SSSR.

I worked 2-3 jobs and have health issues from a few things, but if she wouldn't have drained me, I would have been fine living in American poverty. I'm also a cause of poverty, which is why I don't want children. Sorry, sir, I'm an animal. It's not like anyone can hear me. I talk to myself.
