The english intro for Pokemon is "Gotta catch 'em all" and it is pretty much our equivalent of "Mezase, Pokemon Master" and is the most iconic pokemon theme song for us in the west.
One reason Cowboy Bebop is so popular in the U.S is that it was played on tv over and over for years on a station that played anime late at night. You should react to the English pokemon, dragon ball z, and sailor moon themes.

Also I've heard it's one of the best english dubs ever in anime.
Cowboy Bebop has been airing on Cartoon Network in the US nonstop since the early 2000's. It's considered a classic among anime fans in the USA! It epitomizes the "cool Japan" wave that hit the USA around 2004
12:16 The English Pokémon theme is a LEGENDARY song in the Pokémon fandom, especially in the western countries. Much like you saw in this video, many people cannot help but sing along whenever they hear it because of how iconic it is.
Most English Pokémon fans can recite the english theme song by heart, also the team rocket motto. If one person starts singing it in a group, for sure you will get more to join in. It's definitely beloved by many. I have the song stuck in my head now and I'm happy about it.
In addition to the reasons you've probably seen on here already, part of why Cowboy Bebop is so popular in America comes from how high quality the translations and dub were. The cast captured the spirit of each character, especially Spike, extremely well, and the dialogue both felt natural and fluid. For many anime, the dub suffers as they try to match the mouth movements, but this team did it well.
As a Japanese, I didn't hear about it until my friends when I was in exchange in amerika told me about it. It's about bounty hunters and ever y episode is about a different bounty! I recommend it.

Popular in Europe as well. But my 2 favorite ones are Cowboy Bebop (for the way ahead art style, character design, and badass OP) and Yu-Yu Hakusho.
Yeah that’s happened a lot with anime that came over during the mid 90s had the lyrics changed sailor moon, Pokémon, cardcaptor Sakura & Digimon as well as renaming shows for example Cardcaptor Sakura was renamed into Cardcaptor‘s, Tokyo Mew Mew was renamed into Mew Mew Power and Detective Conan was renamed into Case closed and only had a five seasons translated
Detective Conan only having 5 seasons dubbed was really disappointing, it was a pretty good dub, too bad it didn't have a really good following at the time
Interestingly for people of a very specific age group, like 29-34 now Gundam Wing was VERY popular when it came out but the rest of the Gundam series isn't really. Partly because they only started releasing A LOT of amime in the English speaking world in the late 90s/early 00s and the mainline Universal Century Gundam series was pretty old by then and kids found the 70s artstyle outdated and there was so much of it. Wing in particular got huge though because it was a completely separate story so you didn't really need to know about the Gundam lore to get into it. Of course it didn't hurt that it was on American TV right before or after Dragon Ball Z, don't remember which lol.
So I can say Gundam was really popular in the 90s and 00s but I don't think its as popular now. Trigun is a bit of a niche anime now, but I remember reading it in school. Cowboy Bebop is considered one of the best openings ever in the US so most anime fans and will have watched it or at least recognize the opening. I personally liked Gundam Wing but I definitely got into way after Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin, and a bunch of other toonami shows. I believe Gundam Seed was the main Gundam airing when I first got into anime at the time.
Some of the 90's anime had different theme songs or lyrics in the dubbed versions of the show so english speaking audiences could connect to it better and sing along. Since no one has commented on Trigun I will. It aired on adult swim in America back in the 90s and while it is not as famous as cowboy bebop it has a sizable cult following. I think a lot of people in the west like it because it’s heavily Western inspired and contains a lot of Christian themes. It’s primary hook is that the main character is a gun toting badass but also a Christian pacifist so he has to save the day without killing anyone.

Cowboy Bebop is actually one of my all time Top 10 anime and I was really surprised that you didn't know it since it is a VERY famous anime among those that watch or know about anime in Brasil.
most anime have en english intro song in america, and a german one in germany and a french one in france etc ;) and i think it depends on which animes did run on tv nonstop for what people know xD in germany pokemon, digimon, dragonball, mila superstar, Captain Tsubasa, sailer moon and one piece were running just non stop every day xD
Yeah. Pokémon is a franchise that gave Nintendo a second chance to make some money from the general public once again because Sony is now the new king of the gaming industry with the PlayStation & its games like Crash Bandicoot, Twisted Metal & more. When the creator of Pokemon Satoshi Tajiri & his company called Game Freak came to Nintendo first showing off Pocket Monsters, later as internationally Pokémon, Creatures & Game Freak really helped Nintendo conquered the entire earth once again as Sony did with the PlayStation with having Pokémon having its games, trading cards, mangas sold million copies worldwide and its first film that gross more than $172.7 million.
I've heard about the Moving Gundam in Yokohama, mainly the fact one of the first moves it made was extending it's middle finger at the crowd, which is hilarious.
Yeah, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun are well known here in Finland too. I remember watching the animated Cowboy Bepop movie on television too, which is pretty rare here. Both are awesome shows by the way! I recommend watching them, they are not too long either if I remember correctly (between 20-30 episodes). Oh yeah, I'm in my 30's just for reference.
The theme song for the Sailor Moon in America had the same melody as the original but redid the lyrics and gave it a faster beat to give it more hype and to match with other superhero female shows at the time like powerpuff girls. Sailor moon was not known to be anime at the time so lots of changes were made to make it seem like American cartoons.
Voltes V is also a not popular anime in Japan (not in the video ofc), but very recognized in my country. Curiously, Yoshiyuki Tomino worked on this anime in 1977, just two years before creating the first Gundam series. The opening by Horie Mitsuko and the ending by Mizuki Ichirou are just fantastic (in Voltes V)
Sailor moon started the anime hype in germany 93/94's. With sailor moon came the first merchandise wave to germany. Even twenty years later still we're sailor moon fans. Sailor moon, pokémon and dragonball z have a special place in our hearts.
The Sailor Moon intro was pretty much the same as the Japanese version in my country the only thing they changed was translating it to my native language (Swedish)
It's kind of funny to me. I'm 34 and i watched every single one of these anime growing up. I loved all of them. Dragonballz and Sailor Moon both aired on afternoon tv for kids after school, One Piece and Pokemon aired on the 4kids! Nerwork on the weekends (the less said about the 4kids! Network edits the better) and all the other shows aired late at night on adult swim. The adult swim version was uncensored so when i watched Gundam Wing I finally knew that the characters where reacting the way they did because they where injured. The blood splatters were put back in for the late night version.
Fun fact: The guy who recorded the English Pokemon theme song, Jason Paige, received a one-time (rather small) payment for his work and no royalties. At the time, nobody really expected Pokemon to take off.
All of the Pokemon series that have been released in America had all their songs redubbed in to English. the original Pokemon Theme, that is played in this video, became the anthem of an entire generation of American Pokemon fans and trainers. To the point one person actually did a Rock style cover of the song, and the original singer joined him half way in.
Yeah, americans have (had?) an habit of changing the openings of some animes. In some other countries the dubbing, sometimes, is from their version. So sometimes we get their openings (like the Pokemon one) and other times we get the original japanese ones. Oh, also some european countries have their own openings to some anime. I'm not european, but i know italians tend to do that a lot. In latinamerica, most of the time (or at least in the 90s) we usually got japanese openings, but we only translated their lyrics.
when Sailor Moon was dubbed to English by the original group DIC Entertainment they redubbed Moonlight Densetsu to a more Super Hero like theme. When Viz took over after DIC closed, they dropped the dubbed opening and defaulted back to the Japanese Moonlight Densetsu theme, and even redubbed the entire 90's original anime. So watching Sailor Moon in English now you get the catchier Miracle Romance hook, since the original DIC dubs are out of print.
I love this man. We have so much in common. He has a cool grandma, I have a cool grandpa. We both love Jaiden. And Dragon Ball Z is my favorite anime too obviously. My favorite scene is Majin Vegeta talking about how a Saiyan always keeps his pride.
I think when it comes to broadcasting, Bandai and Sunrise did a good job broadcasting these shows on American cable television. That's why titles like Cowboy Bebop, Gundam, Ghost in the Shell, Silent Mobius, Escaflowne, Outlaw Star, Ronin Warriors, etc... are well known to 80s-90s kids born in the west. These are more adult titles compared to releases like Pokemon, Digimon, that are geared towards children. Since anime is more abundant in Japan, it probably got buried from the tons of circulated content already on Japan Television. All the shows you didn't know, I GREW UP on those shows here in the US.
Yeah, 4Kids was known for making their own theme songs to save money, the one for Pokémon here and the one they did for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters are their pride and joy due to the nostalgia they bring here in the United States, other anime that 4Kids dubbed include One Piece(the most changes in anime history were made there, like Sanji's cigarette became a lollipop, guns were edited or completely removed, death wasn't a thing(a staple of those days), and scenes and episodes were removed), Shaman King, Ultimate Muscle, Kirby Right Back At Ya, Sonic X, and Tokyo Mew Mew, and I think Cardcapture Sakura too.
I grew up watching and loving Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon. I still love them even at 29. I agree Gohan vs Cell was amazing!! I also love Kid Buu saga Never been into Cowboy Beebop, or Trigun. I loved Gundam, G Gundam was my favorite era.
What a cool channel. Just for more info I think some of this animes must have been popular to license outside Japan (maybe cheaper?) and thats why Trigun and Cowboy Beebob are reallitvely known oversees... and probably less known in Japan. These two were also broadcasted in Local public Spanish tvs by end of the 90s, beginning of 2000. Pretty sure also aired in France. I am surprized though that not many of this kids knew Evangelion because it was really famous too, however as it is targeted at adults +18 they were only sold in DVD. For Pokémon, yes, yhis is the song everywhere in the world for the first season hahahha.
The pokemon's intro song was translated to many different languages and because of it was it very easy to remember for those who grew up during the time it came
Thing one: In America, a American animation is a cartoon, but a foreign animation is an anime. Americans don't use that word to refer to American-made animations, unless they are Japanese styled. So an animated show from Japan is an anime, and an animated show from China is a Chinese anime. Sailor Moon: I actually met the English Voice Actresses for Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars, and it was a surreal experience, since I had seen the subtitled Japanesw version.. I quickly found out that Usagi is called Serena, instead. I expected something like Bunny, but Serenua is what I got. However, the English VA of Sailor Moon told the following story (2017?): She had been repeatedly begged by a fan she kept in touch with to do tours at conventions, such as Comic-con and Ani-con. Since the anime was like 20 years old, she kept telling the fan that she felt like no one cared about it anymore. He kept pressing until she decided to show up on a whim and was blown away by how alive and wholesome the fan base was, and how excited they were to see her. So now she tours :) On Cowboy Beebop and Trigun: both super popular among men. Trigun is silly as well and has similar vibes to FMA. On Gundam/Evangelion: Mech animes aren't as popular in America, but a lack of knowing Gundan can probably be attributed to Code Geass and our own Transformers cartoons. More recently, you could attribute this to the popularity of Darling in the Franxx, as well. I hope this was helpful!
Sometimes you find out that a specific show is very popular outside of its country of origin simply because it was one of the first few to be broadcast somewhere else and there wasn't much to compare it to, so that it got super popular despite not necessarily being that good. Cowboy Bepop is the rare case where that happened, except it was also an exceedingly good show. It had cool characters, cool music, a cool story, cool visuals, cool animation, a cool atmosphere. The only thing it didn't have was a lot of episodes. It's a really short series.
Sailor moon was my introduction to anime. So it will always be number one for me. I do recall that after my morning episode of sailor moon they stopped airing a show and switched it with Pokémon. I think Pokémon was my seventh anime I started watching :) man I’m getting old.
Where I live (Texas), they showed on tv Dragon Ball Z, Pokemon, Naruto!, Yu-gi-oh, Digimon, Bayblade? On tv everyday after school. And in the country Mexico, Dragon Ball Z is so popular that they have stores named after Goku or other dragon ball characters. Also, in Mexico, they made these things called "tazos" where they were placed in popular chips like Lay's, Doritos, Ruffles, Cheetos and it had the images of different Pokemons. You could collect all of the tazos and it was really fun. I would always get excited to go to the store and buy some Cheetos or chips like lay just so I can get some of these pokemon tazos and add it to my collection. Those were some good times.
I'm an old-old-old school anime fan, one of the original generation that got into it in the late 70s/early 80s in America...LONG before it became an "accepted" part of pop culture here in the US. Up until the 90s, amime was for the most part considered a cult form of entertainment, especially in the early years when the Saturday morning domestic cartoon machine was at its height. The shows that snagged me were "Star Blazers" (Yamato, of course), "Force Five", which was a mashup of 5 classic 1970s Go Nagai super robot series, and "Robotech" (Macross, Southern Cross & Mospeada combined). If you were an anime fan in the early 80s in America, you were definitely on your own, because you were WAYYY ahead of the curve as far as cartoon entertainment was concerned. I was still collecting fansubbed anime in the 90s, including "Evangelion" "Escaflowne", "X" and "Rayearth", which I had collected a full year or two before they officially became available here. I'm also very pleased that Big West and Harmony Gold have finally patched up their differences, so that all of the "Macross" series will finally be available here in the US, and the live-action "Robotech" movie will finally be produced.
I grew up in Sweden and I LOOOVEEED Sailor Moon as a kid. Still do now. Now I watch the original Japanese episodes though, and not the dubbed Swedish ones. And of course, everyone knows Pokémon! In Sweden we have the same theme song as the American one, only in Swedish. It's sooo different from the Japanese version. The one I grew up with is more nostalgic to me, but I like both songs :)
Also, Gundam is probably well known among 30-something guys, Gundam Wing being the most well known. Wing was the first Gundam played in TV here actually! Unfortunately, the more recent series have not been as popular with gen z.
The thing about pokemon is that, everyone knows about it, everyone watched it at one point. but as time goes on, less people seem to be talking about it. but its too iconic to forget. ive even been getting back into pokemon lately

I'm from Brasil and Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun I had to watch on a special TV channel that my father had on his TV only for a few years and then download it online to finish since the TV provider was to expensive and he had to change to one that didn't have that TV channel.
Cowboy Bebop is actually one of my all time Top 10 anime and I was really surprised that you didn't know it since it is a VERY famous anime among those that watch or know about anime in Brasil.
Trigun was so popular in canada i constantly find volumes of the manga in thrift stores!
Evangelion was one of the first anime I watched, and to this day I still get emotional over Rei 😭
I love the wholesome commentary
4:41 Misato Katsuragi is my favorite! I really liked the movies as well. It's just a wonderful series, one of my favorite anime for sure.
most anime have en english intro song in america, and a german one in germany and a french one in france etc ;)
and i think it depends on which animes did run on tv nonstop for what people know xD
in germany pokemon, digimon, dragonball, mila superstar, Captain Tsubasa, sailer moon and one piece were running just non stop every day xD
It seems they will do the OG Japanese anime openings now and days for both dubbed and subbed anime.
Day 4 of asking Shuy to react to Hamilton.
A Rap musical about the U.S. founding fathers
(My Founding Fathers)
OOOOOoooooo yes please!!! Seconded!
I really love your videos, Japan is the best!
I have just discovered your videos and you’re so amazing and happy and genuine it makes me smile so much!
I love his reaction it's soo kawaii ..I have been learning japanes soo that 1 day I could visit Japan .....私はあなたを愛していますこのようなかわいい反応を続けてください
As a child I'm surprised a 2000 kid knows all of these animes and not the teens 😂
I am not 90's kid but i know all of the intro and anime and i really like them and when last episide of animes come i can't
Dbz was my favorite growing up watching it with my siblings
Ahh so many good memories. Everytime I hear intro of Evangelion i have chills all over my back. And yes, we all love Rei... ^^
Yeah gohan super sayian 2 is my favorite moment in dragon ball z
The Sailor Moon intro was pretty much the same as the Japanese version in my country the only thing they changed was translating it to my native language (Swedish)
I really love the original (japanese) songs from sailor moon
gundam wing is my favorite gundam story too-! when i was a kid i had the manga and everything~~ i still watch gundam to this day
It's kind of funny to me.
An idea for reaction: "If Pokedex Entries Were Literal" from Dorkly. It's ... Something... Hm... Unique.
Sailor moon was first anime i watched since I was a preschooler. I remember watching it along with Dragon ball Z on Cartoon Network.
you are such a wholesome dude! i want to go to japan so bad!
when Sailor Moon was dubbed to English by the original group DIC Entertainment they redubbed Moonlight Densetsu to a more Super Hero like theme.
You have the best intro by far!
THIS IS THE BEST PERSON I EVER WATCHED GOD BLESS
I love how nice and happy you are.
Yes ! ❤
I am early for one of your videos ❤
I grew up watching and loving Sailor Moon, Evangelion, Dragon Ball Z and Pokémon. I still love them even at 29.
I agree Gohan vs Cell was amazing!! I also love Kid Buu saga
Never been into Cowboy Beebop, or Trigun. I loved Gundam, G Gundam was my favorite era.
Dragon ball will always be in my heart. I remember waking up 6.30 in the morning just to watch dbz ant after the show i would go to school.
One of the 90's anime that I liked is Slam Dunk. It's so nostalgic
Many of these animes aired even in Brazil in the 90's and 00's! Sailor Moon, Dragon ball z and pokemon were part of my childhood
Sailor Moon:
I actually met the English Voice Actresses for Sailor Moon and Sailor Mars, and it was a surreal experience, since I had seen the subtitled Japanesw version.. I quickly found out that Usagi is called Serena, instead. I expected something like Bunny, but Serenua is what I got. However, the English VA of Sailor Moon told the following story (2017?):
She had been repeatedly begged by a fan she kept in touch with to do tours at conventions, such as Comic-con and Ani-con. Since the anime was like 20 years old, she kept telling the fan that she felt like no one cared about it anymore. He kept pressing until she decided to show up on a whim and was blown away by how alive and wholesome the fan base was, and how excited they were to see her. So now she tours :)
On Cowboy Beebop and Trigun: both super popular among men.
I'm surprised about Gundam too, I'm from the USA and my oldest sister loves Gundam!!!
to this day - Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and Outlaw Star are the only anime i watch with the english dubbing - they were that good.
I need the learn the enthusiasm and kindness of this person
How do you feel about the Stone Ocean anime being announced?
Here in brazil dragon ball z is a anime that the entire country knows about and watched it
The thing about pokemon is that, everyone knows about it, everyone watched it at one point. but as time goes on, less people seem to be talking about it. but its too iconic to forget. ive even been getting back into pokemon lately
