A Bright & Early Morning Walk in a Cotswold Village

  • So, today we are out and about walking in the rural Cotswold village of Cutsdean, which is located in the South West county of Gloucestershire, England. The population of the village is around 100. The village church is dedicated to Saint James, which is a Grade II listed building and dates back to the 14th century.
Cutsdean is renown for being very windy, for which it received the nickname of "Two coats Cutsdean".
Here at 'Out and about Walking' we like to bring you a lot of the smaller and lesser well known villages, which are often fairly inaccessible and Cutsdean is no exception as I visited this village by bicycle! See if you can spot where I nearly slipped over on some mud during this walk!
    Thanks for walking with me.

Your walks are so dreamy & they make me happy. I am going to make it over there yet & your walks inspire me to make it happen. Thank you for doing this for us, when I walk in an area that may resemble yours even in the smallest of ways, I smile and think OAAW. ❤

Hi, Michele. Thank you so much for your heartwarming comment. Maybe late Springtime to early Summer would be a good time for a visit as it is now cold & dark early. Whichever, the Cotswolds look forward to your arrival. Thanks again. Enjoy the rest of your day. OAAW

I felt like I was on a walk in another time, long ago. I'm so fascinated by brick homes and other buildings made of brick. That cemetery, although unkempt, had such a peaceful beauty about it. I wish I could live there and go on those walks as well. I bet the air smells so clean too. I'm not quite finished the video, but I'll continue it later. I have too much housework to do. Thanks for the wonderful walk. ❤😊

Marvellous. It has been a real pleasure to take this walk with you. It always is. Sometimes, I come to the odd video a little late but it is always a joy when I come to them. This is not a place I know. It will be a long time before I have visited half the number of places that you have filmed. The colour of the sky is dazzling. I don't even have a word for that particular pinkish, peachy icy pale blue... Thank you for posting.

Evening, Jago. Hope you had a good weekend. I greatly appreciate you being here, so please don’t worry about time frames. Lately I have been focusing on villages that tourists don’t or probably won’t ever get to see, at least not in person as they are not all that accessible, in fact I have been cycling into a few recently as it takes the headache out of trying to find somewhere to park. Found some real gems, so please keep a note of them for your own future take on them. Thanks again for your support.

I should get a bicycle (and figure out how you ride it) to see these spots. If I'd never seen any of your videos before, you'd have had my attention with that opening shot. The pastel shades of the horizon. The promise of a new day. I could smell that wonderful wood fire smoke. I don't know why but this evokes the most incredible joyful yearning in me. I grew up in London which, for most of my life has been being raised in smoke-free zones, but there's something particularly autumnal in the idea of wood smoke. Maybe from the bonfires. As a side note of no interest to anyone, I was walking in Tintern the other day and suddenly found myself ankle deep in cold wet mud, sliding around like some comedic imbecile while wiser folk had embarked on the same walk with boots. It has been a particularly wet few weeks even for those of us not too affected by the terrible weather. In my idiot-born-in-a-city ignorance, I have to admit to having no idea what this construction is at 27:11. I've seen similar things and suspected they were animal pens or kind-of-wells. Anyway... Thanks as usual. I enjoyed this walk. A beautifully gentle morning meander. I must have missed the slip.

Hello. Thank you very much for your comment, your feedback is highly valuable, especially as it was good to know how a first timer viewer might perceive the channel. Your side note is very much relatable to me as I very rarely wear walking boots (always wearing worn out trainers!), and find myself ankle deep in mud often and not so graciously slipping & a sliding all over the place :). Tintern is a lovely place to visit & walk. A bicycle is definitely a good way to get to these little villages, just lately I seem to be cycling in to about 50% of the villages. In fact I have another two villages earmarked for in the morning in which I will be using the two wheeled transport :). Enjoy your weekend and thanks again. OAAW

Cutsdean is a very pretty village with a more rustic side than other villages in the region and it is very pretty.
The church surprises with its imposing square tower which is not in the style of the two buildings which follow it.
    They are poorly matched.
I really liked the bathtub for the sheep; it was ingenious!!.

Top'o tha mornin' to ya, Sir🕶️. Sorry am late, raunchy weather coming in with high winds, torrentials, pocket change hail, possible whirlwinds/tornadoes - the usual bad characters attending a party sponsored by Sea Moisture and Canadian Cold. So gave me doggos a good long run and battened the outdoor hatches. Didja sleep astride the bike? Or bench curl. Aha! Tis October, guess what made me deduce that. Very nice loong barn full of whats and nots, another with tack and a placid white face. What in tarnation were those church tower creatures, tailed frogs? Adorable tiny church, smallest yet I think. What a treat - ME FAVORITE VIDEO CLIP: from you peeking through the fence to walking away outta sight... the precious friendly talkative lambs, personifies Cotswold! See ya tomorrow ifn me house be still standing. That was the day for you, bicycling to/fro, scouting route, scuffing route. Very well worth it!

Good day, Jaclyn. I hope you are staying safe and keeping warm during such inclement weather conditions. Did you spot my bike? I don’t recall seeing the church tower creatures, it never ceases to amaze me what I neglect to see out on our walks. Your favourite clip is now duly noted and will be included in this year’s OAAW recap video :). Guess what? I have man 🤧, all cold shivery & achey. Will probably be doing my Darth Vader impression this weekend into the mics. But...got a mountain of editing to get through as well but don’t how much I will get done today, see how it goes...All the best to you. OAAW

The notification for your break of day walk arrived at our own break of day in NY state (we live in the western part). This one, too, has now joined the ranks of my favorites- and I probably should stop declaring favorites, as each new walk that comes along joins the list. This was lovely, as usual- and the curious horse and friendly sheep were delightful! You seem to still have a great deal of green foliage for this time of year- at least compared at our area, where the majority of deciduous trees are now bare, or just hanging onto a few residual leaves. When do the trees in England fully shed their leaves? (I just was curious, as I noticed that). Thanks for posting another very enjoyable and beautiful walk (and you are very dedicated, to use your bicycle to access remote areas when a car will not do).

    • @OutandaboutWalking
      @OutandaboutWalking  9 місяців тому

A very good morning to you, Janet. I hope your week has been a good one. It is really good that you are building a catalogue of favourites as one can never have enough favourites. Just to throw a spanner in the works I have some really cracking village walks coming up including one in heavy rain (got totally drenched cycling in!). It's a strange one this autumn as the leaves were showing signs of changing colour by the end of summer but the trees are still hanging on to their leaves as of today in this part of the world but to answer your question, I would say on average maybe by the end of Nov or early Dec. Also, I should mention that majority of the walks might be 2 - 3 weeks old before getting published and occasionally even much longer than that. Enjoy your morning and have a good rest of the weekend. Many thanks. OAAW

Thank you for answering that question. Generally speaking, it seems that your location is about a month behind ours in terms of autumn foliage- though of course this can vary from year to year.
(We have noticed this just with our own large, backyard maple). I look forward to the upcoming videos you have described- and especially the rainy one. Walks in the rain have their own special kind of magic! : ) Have a good weekend….know that you are observing Remembrance Day in the UK as we observe Veterans Day here.
