Some people enjoy the Mirrorless Camera's, but most of us grew up with the DSLR camera system and that is what we enjoy about these cameras! I will never change to the Mirrorless camera because of the Price! I will continue with the DSLR Full Frame Camera Outfit as my Primary Camera System. Lenses are more affordable and easier to find!
The D780’s live-view gives new lease of life for my many AF D lenses. Wish a D790 comes along with a hybrid OVF/EVF though. Then my joy will be complete. A mirrorless F-mount camera!
Eric....have you tried the 780 with an AF-S G lens for the AF tracking. I too have a plethora of vintage Nikon glass and sic=nce I'm old and don't shoot fast the speed of AF wasn't a big concern. I do more MF than AF. However, when I bought the 780 body the 750 with it's kit 24-120 went to the daughter and I just used my old lenses. AF tracking was okay but nothing to write home about. Then for a specific task (youth baseball form analytics videos}, I acquired a 70-200 f4 AF-S G. The tracking with the silent wave voice coil motors was poem writing quality. And you can now find excellent versions of that lens used for about a third its new price.
The D780 is actually one of the cameras I've always wondered why it wasn't a big hit. The no lag ever optical viewfinder with solid fast AF AND amazing battery life, with all the mirrorless ability in live view when desired, and without buying all new very pricey Z lenses even able to make use of old screw drive ones. It may not be the new smallest and flashiest looking tech but it does give you the best of both worlds.
I've owned my D780 for about 1 month now and I agree ..I LOVE IT.. Low light capabilities are Amazing...like you I searched for just the right camera was a toss up between D750 and D850 (wasn't too impressed by the mirrorless cameras..the EVF hurt my eyes..)..and BAMM...came across the D780..I have THE CAMERA .. for Me.
Love the Nikon colors with the older lenses. To me they have nicer rendition than the new mirrorless z lenses. Think you are going to have a ton of fun shooting with it. And you can find the old Nikon lenses for a great price too.
An additional useful feature is that in LiveView, you can dial your exposure using the control dial and watch the effect on the LCD. That way you can tweak your exposure. Same with White Balance.
High ! Glad you.re enjoying your new camera but I'd like to correct some of your comment & advise you on one point... First comment you describe the AF Nikkor 50mm f1.4 D lens as a screw mount lens X wrong it is a screw drive lens Big difference since crew mount lens refer to older Manual Lens from manufacturers like Pentax, old Pre-M Leicas, & many other using sone of these style of mount. Now the recommendations... If you use that lens in manual mode you should disengage both the Lens & Body AF to avoid damaging the lens & the camera focus motor also this lens AF is not really great for Videos Both in terms of speed & noise & it does nor have VR but I least you can use the In-Body stabilization anyway it's just that you get so much better results when using the Newer AF-S lenses with VR then you have dual stabilization. You might know all of this but it is helpful to let others that do not know these things.
Really interesting video, thank you. And love the shots at the end. I am on the Z6ii and Z7 with Z lenses only. That 50mm 1.4 looks great. The bokeh in a couple of those images was insane! It makes me wonder now if I should look at buying a 2nd-hand F Mount 50 1.4. Although I do adore my Z 50 1.8s…. Cheers, Zak
I have this camera and love it there are way more lenses to choose from and they are way cheaper than the z it’s perfect I’ll be rocking this one for quite a while
Tnx for this video. I am thinking about getting a Nikon D780, i shoot with Nikon Z6 and i don't like the slow speed of it when it's not in use fore a short time.
I shoot both Sony and Nikon . For Sony, I mostly use my voigtlander and Sony G lenses. For Nikon though, it's hard to explain but I love the D series lenses. Started picking them up again about a year ago...a few G's as well. Nikon F mount is a screaming bargain right now and the DSLR experience still can't be beat. I plan on buying a D780 for that very reason.
Hi Eric, Nice channel I really like your videos. In many cases we share the same passion and opinion on camera so I am wondering if you still have the d780? I am considering buying one and if you still have yours it would be a good signal that it's a good one :) Cheers from Germany
I have hope that this camera could cure my GAS, since on paper it has everything I need: full frame, optical viewfinder and eye af in live view. I red that in optical viewfinder it even has face af...
@@ericrjennings ah pitty. Would you recommend the d780 for general purpose or is there any other DSLR in your mind? Have the 6D now and love the Canon JPGs, but the live view is just too old and slow on this camera.
I was thinking about this D780 because I love optical viewfinder and in some occasion, mirror less shooting is good because of focus points covering nearly 100% of the sensor. But 2 things refrain me: In the optical viewfinder, the AF is covering a very tiny part of the frame The OVF isn’t the round one as in D850 which I can’t do without!!! What is your thoughts about this 2 items?
@@ericrjennings I remember my D750… and I had no pain selling it. I really didn’t like the overall experience with it even if it’s a masterpiece in terms of image quality. I hope I can try on D780 one day before taking any decision
Notice the amount of times you stated "I love it"? That is a mark of a company that gets photography through & through! That is the type of camera you pass onto your children.
It's like portrait mode when it first came out, which is kind of decent now (still not perfect). Hopefully the bokeh will be improved because right now the edges can be blurred out as well.

Got mine used at B&H too with very low shutter count!😀 Awesome camera!

i own the 780 love it only down side about it is .. nikon have decided not to bring any firmware out for it... im gutted
Hate to admit it but images look great and iPhone did its thing for sure (so long video cameras). Good stuff bro!

I don’t think you can adapt the 50 1.4 D lens because it’s screw drive and the FtZ doesn’t support screw drive lenses.

Is it mechanical shutter like other mirrorless or it is electronic shutter? I am curious ^^

It's Wednesday, I wonder which camera Eric has bought today then?
Well you just need to wait and find out 😉
I'm happy with mine.
The iphone's fake bokeh has a strange effect that is always moving on the swinging chair on the left.
I want both the Nikon D750 and Nikon D780
Funny I just picked up a dslr too

Yeah screw drive
Fake bokeh is so lame personally. Yes iphone 13 is good for convenience though

The build quality on it is bad tho
No doubt the D780 is good. And a comparison with the Z6 I can also imagine as the Z6 is really a piece of shit. If mirrorless then please no Nikon.
Very poor démonstration
