- Hello everyone and welcome to the first video of my tutorial series. I'll be covering some of the drum beats that I learned, what they indicate, and when to use them. Please feel free to comment below with any questions, comments, or suggestions!
In this video I go over two of the walking beats I use and try to break them down, and end with a quick rundown of drum rolls. The program I used for the scrolling beats is actually a rhythm game called Osu! using its taiko port, which is an adaptation of the Taiko no Tatsujin series.
Below is a list of time stamps that will help you pinpoint specific beats that you may need to reference:
Walking beat intro: 1:05
Basic structure and notation: 4:00
3 beat: 5:10
5 beat: 6:40
4 beat: 7:50
6 beat: 9:50
5 star live drum: 11:23
7 star rundown: 11:52
7 star virtual drum timing: 13:54
7 star live drum: 15:15
Walking beat wrap up: 15:57
Drum rolls: 16:55
Drum rolls live: 20:28

This is a really fantastic series of videos. I am tremendously appreciative. I lead a small lion dance team and without prior training most of what we know comes from youtube and intuition. This is tremendously helpful in forming a sense of what is relatively canonical and what is not.
Freaking awesome tutorial brother 🦁
great job. best for the southern lion drum learning
Great tutorial Bryant!
Thank you!
Aloha!
Hi Bryant, very good video. This is the only video where I can see what you do for 5 n 7 stars. I have been watching so many videos before but just can't see what people are doing. Can you explain the term 5 stars n 7 stars? I quite like to understand what 5 n 7 stars refers to. Thank you
Thanks I got it now
