Thanks for your review. It is important to mention that back in the analog days the credit for the mastering on the sleeves was to the engineer who produced the master tape. In many cases is the same engineer who cut the vinyl and have the initials on the dead wax but in others it is not and there is other engineer who cut the vinyl. Just as an example, Dire Straits - Love Over Gold was mastered by Bob Ludwig at Masterdisk in the US. However there is only one lacquer with RL on the deadwax which is UK Vertigo A3/B3. Almost all the lacquers have HW on the deadwax who is Howie Weinstein. But all the sleeves worldwide including originals reissues/remasters credit Robert Ludwig for the Mastering because as I mentioned before he produced the approved master tape when the lacquers were approved for pressing. That original tape is an EQed tape that was copied many times for worldwide distribution. And if you move forward there have been recent vinyl remasters of Love Over Gold which were cut by Bernie Grundman and have the BG on the deadwax but still Robert Ludwig is credited on the sleeve because all these new vinyl remasters are done using the EQed tape that was produced when the album was released. In other words it is important to understand vinyl mastering has two parts: 1 - Producing the Master Tape or Master Digital Files and then the lacquer cutting. Another good example is Steely Dan - Gaucho. Mastered by Bob Ludwig and the new UHQR is a new cut by Bernie Grundman using the EQed tape from Bob Ludwig. You can see the credits in Discogs mentioning the same: Mastered by Bob Ludwig, Lacquer Cut/Remastered by Bernie Grundman which is totally correct. www.discogs.com/release/30391688-Steely-Dan-Gaucho
Trout Mask can be an honorable mention because Grundman obviously selected Bellman to work for his studio. Excellent catch and recovery mid-video. Can't wait for that Trout Mask Replica video, by the way. I need to crank up my US 2nd pressing soon, but I kind of want to wait until no one is home. That story about the RHCP cover is fantastic. Way better than him just writing his name!
Don't know every title, and my canadian copy of 'Blues in Orbit' is far from great, but I generally agree. I would personally add Stokowski Rhapsodies on Classic Records and Kate Bush's 2018 remaster of The Dreaming which was cut by Bernie. I know and love The Dreaming since it came out in 1982 and I never dreamed it could sound so good!
If one day you see a Spanish edition of Led Zeppelin released by Hispavox, don't hesitate for a moment. If what matters to you is the sound, they are the closest to the UK originals.😉
Not my brother in law, one of the most impressive mastering engineers around. May sound a bit technical, but if you find an album mastered by him, on about any set up it will blow you away.
What? Yanni - Out of silence Vinyl make it not to your list .😋 Digital Recorded and digital Mastered you can read on the Front Cover .1987 different times, but Sound anyway Not spezial.hey, your fault i have now a boring Vinyl. Now what I mean?😄
Loved the RHCP cover story 🌶️

Good idea for a video. Will you do a few more to feature Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman?
Defenitely on Kevin Gray! For Steve Hoffman I need a lot more titels! Got some advice on that one?

You need to check out BG the colour and the shape great pressing, also you didn’t have nirvana unplugged on the Pallas label by BG
Thanks! I will!
If you are buying online from eBay, discogs etc how can you check whether the copy of the Bernie grundman pressing?
I would love to know what is the way you compare the pressings in the ranking. If they all sound pretty good what makes them one above the other one.
Good question! It is a combination of plain sonic qualities and expectations (for example what do OG’s sound like compared to this one)
Do you choose 45 rpm KOB over 33rpm version? If so, why? thx.
Minor difference but there is a bit more detail.
What song was left off of Thriller?
Which is the better sounding AJA supposedly? AA or AB?
The AB! Still looking for that.
who is he, your brother in law?
Not my brother in law, one of the most impressive mastering engineers around. May sound a bit technical, but if you find an album mastered by him, on about any set up it will blow you away.
he your brother in law or something?
What’s this brother in law thing?
