  • Looking back on 2024 a more personal video. Which records did I pick up that really made my year? In this video I discuss the following albums; a 1978 US Tomato pressing of Townes van Zandt's self titled album, a 1988 Canadian pressing of Slayer South of Heaven, a 1987 European pressing of Ozzy Osbourne & Randy Rhoads Tribute, a 1st German pressing of John Carpenter's The Fog soundtrack and Lou Reed's Berlin Live.

Cool list, I'm a big Reed and Van Zandt fan, too.
90% of my collection is CDs, but I do collect some vinyl. My personal 5 fav vinyl picks this year:
    1. George Harrison - Dark Horse (remastered for vinyl). I have all his albums on remastered CD, but I could never obtain this one. So, finding it on vinyl was cool.
    2. Television - Adventure. Another relatively rare album I had been keeping an eye out for.
    3. U2 - How To Reassemble An Atomic Bomb. A black Friday RSD release of new (old) songs.
    4. The War On Drugs - Lost in The Dream. Just a classic album that I have on CD. It would be in my top 20 albums of the last 20 years.
    5. Drive by Truckers - Southern Rock Opera, deluxe edition. Again, I have this on CD, but this is a remastered version with a bonus LP of tracks, booklets, etc.
Oh yeah, I also picked up Bowie's Live At The Moon, triple vinyl, after watching your video on that one. So, thanks for the tip! Stuart.

🔥 And now the vinyl that was too hot to handle! 🔥

🔥 So hot, you needed the record at home, and the CD while driving. 🔥
🔥 They said, it couldn't be done. This album said: "Hold my beer." 🔥
    🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ST "Saturday Night Fever" (1977) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thank you so much! I really need to listen to the Townes van Zandt album. Sounds beautiful:) I sometimes go to a music second hand shop nearby. This year I've found these albums amongst others:
    - all the albums by Nick Drake. "Pink Moon" is my favourite one.
    - "Northern Blues" by Krisopher Aström
    - "Fleet Foxes" by Fleet Foxes
    - "The Dreaming" by Kate Bush
    - "music for airports- Ambient 1" by Brian Eno

Thanks for the video. I love Townes van Zandt and did see him twice live in Germany in the 90s. Very tragic life though. My favorite of his record is our mother the mountain where I’m having a 69 UK 1st which sounds fantastic. The self titled is thr second one I would choose. Agree with you, unfortunately nearly impossible to find any US 1st.
    Greetings Chris

Using a plectrum to open a record is a great idea. I will have to do that. I open a lot of sealed vintage records myself, so I fully support you there. I did the same with my 1978 UK reissue (coincidence!) of the first two Big Star albums. (It was importer shrink anyway.)
I always thought South Of Heaven was a pretty funny title.
Lou Reed is looking pretty muscular on that album cover.
    Great stuff, as always.

Ooh wow! How do those Big Star albums sound?

@ They sound phenomenal. I recommend that 2-for-1 set as a less expensive alternative to the original pressings. It was only like $100 sealed.

Good stuff. Love the Slayer find. My year yielded some great finds. 0:55
    5. Guns and Roses Appetite For Destruction unsealed mint copy of the 320 variant.
    4. Original German pressing of Gomez’s Bring It On. Sealed Mint copy.
    3. Widespread Panic’s Wood 180g box set. Sealed Mint copy.
    2. Groundation’s Hebron Gate and We Free Again limited edition sealed mint copies.
    1. Counting Crows Analogue Productions 45rpm near mint copy of August and Everything After.
Honorable mention. Luck of the draw find. 45rpm copy of Sick Figure’s Set In Stone. Although listed as 45rpm, many copies are 33 1/3. The 45rpm copies are rare and sound amazing.

Good question! Which specific album/pressing is it?

Not a big fan of The Fog, and rank it is the lower echelon of Carpenters filmography. He has written a lot of great music. Honestly, Halloween's soundtrack is amazing, but in terms of s surprise, his work on Ghosts of Mars is surprisingly good (the movie was a bit of a letdown). The Fog soundtrack has been released with extra tracks on a dou8ble album (on green and White vinyl), which is a better choice than the original release.

I actually have that double vinyl as well. And though a great release; I really love the detailed analogue sound of this German pressing.
