My cat loves her wheatgrass that I got her so she'd stop eating my basil so much, she rolls her little face in it. Whenever I make spaghetti or anything that requires basil she RUNS for her grass so that she can be involved. It's really cute.

Tip: don't grow the grass in the plastic bowl that comes with the package. Put it in a heavy, clay pot or planter. That way they can tug on the grass without upending it.
My organic and new age store sells organic wheat grass already grown, and I've had me cat munch on it.

I find that growing one small garden bed of these grasses keeps our "garden kitties" out of the flower and veggie beds. The "garden kitties" are ferals who have tamed down enough to sleep in the garden shed where we feed them. (And yes, they are neutered/spayed.) They eat the grasses and lay in them when it's hot. Well, I also bought them an umbrella to lounge under. :)

Could you make a video on other plants that are okay for cats to eat? I'm seeing a lot of conflicting information when trying to research.
For example, when looking up good plants to plant for cats in the garden I keep seeing lemongrass mentioned. But when I check the ASPCA's website it says it's toxic??
Then some other sites say it's fine in small amounts but mildly toxic? Why are so many sites recommending to plant it then? I'm trying to find plants that are good or at least safe for cats that also repel insects and lemongrass seemed like a good candidate at first, but now I'm left feeling confused. Especially since the ASPCA also lists catnip as being toxic to cats....

This is so timely. My family and I knew that grass was good for upset stomachs in cats, but recently my cat has been actively trying to get outside to chew on grass (he's strictly indoors and is usually just content with sitting at the window). He's also had some other signs that he's been feeling gross/nauseuos, but this video confirmed that there's probably something serious going on. He had a vet visit lined up for tomorrow, so I'll be sure to let them know about the grass thing. Thank you!

There’s also trimming and maintenance and a short, three week window to which the grass is not good to keep out for cats anymore. We call wheatgrass cat "salad" (I may have stolen that from Hannah Shaw). Our younger kitty is obsessed with it! When we bring home a new "salad" and place it on the counter, she meows, begging for it! She doesn't jump on the counter (definitely a bush dweller), but will yell until we put it on the floor for her. She doesn't like to share it with her older sister, so we put the leftover "salad" in the kitchen window sill so she can nibble when she feels like it.

I have been giving my cats grass their whole life with me (I always grow it by myself, so I know it's safe for them to eat it) and for them it seems almost like a healthy snack because they nibble on it between mealtimes, also I experimented this year with a big tray of grass (big enough that a cat can comfortably lay on it) and kept the soil damp and during the summer's heatwave they loved it, so I got another tray and they both had their own. It kept them cool for longer than the slightly damp (misted with water and kept in a refridgerator for 20-30 minutes) cool towels, which they also loved a lot when it was hot outside, but the con about towels is that they warmed up very quickly and cats were hot again and looking for a cooler place to be. I just kept the grasstrays in a semi-shade(not in direct sunlight but not in the complete darkness either) and it stayed cool to the touch. Also they could nibble on grass while laying in it.

I plant wheatgrass for my cats during the cold seasons. They like it but they still prefer the natural from the outside (indoor cats that do supervised grazing). It still is as organic as nature alone can be, neither I or my neighbors use fertilizers, chemicals or anything for well over 5 years. Plus the cats have some fun with crickets and butterflies, and when they grow tired, walk right away back inside.
My folks used to say cats enjoy grass to help them clean up fur-balls, which holds true until this day: when they (badly) want outdoor grass, they will be throwing up a fur-ball in no time after munching. And then they happily come back in for a fresh set of wheatgrass.

I don't usually eat grass. Lol! My cat eats grass that grows naturally, in the filed, that I bring him from the country side.
I also grow catnip, which he loves, loves, loves! He always ate a lot of grass.
But yeah, he has stomach/intestine upsets from time to time.

We don't have a lawn, but natural grass grows in our old border out back. No chems whatsoever, and I don't pick blades from the side near the wooden fence.
My black cat is a super grass muncher. She begs like she's starving, yowling and can even get aggressive when I'm holding it.
I know her tummy is a little upset, we been told she has the cat version of IBS because after she got neutered she started getting bad diareah.
It was watery and she ran all over (could have made enough back to cleaner the carpet if we had a VCR cam lol) took her to the vet and after they shaved her bum cheeks, he told us she was kitty IBS. Put her on expensive rice+chicken med grade food sachets.
After years of trying, the only food (store bought) she can eat is basic iams brand. Every time a new dry food comes out, I try a small bag but usually, between 2 to 4 weeks after she starts eating it, she gets the runs. So its back to the iams. Even the iams wet food affects her after a couple of meals. (We call it 'hotbot' it gets hard and very hot as it comes out, she often startles when that happens, so we have to follow her in case bits drop off into the carpet)
So she gets a sachet for Xmas dinner, one for boxing day dinner and one on new years day dinner. Rest of the year, hardtack
I keep telling her "get me those lottery numbers, enough to fix stuff, and you can have fresh real mince every meal" lol. No luck yet tho.

My adopted cat has zero interest in eating plants out of a pot. I’m guessing former owners must have trained that behavior. She only ate the cat grass I grew if I cut it and sprinkle it on her food. I have a catnip plant as well, and she loves to eat it, but only if I cut a piece off for her.

We have grown wheat grass in new large dog’s clear litter pan. Our indoor cats and kittens will use it as sleeping bed to eat grassy snack on our back screen porch while they’re cat tv watching : birds , airplanes , squirrels, dogs , humans , frogs , wild rabbits and chipmunks. Every once awhile, they would jump out of grass bed to use their tree scratching post stub , drink some water , use their outdoor litter pan , play with their toys , wrestle each other playfully or to lay on their favorite humans’ laps on porch.

It did not make sense to me at all until I found it as an ingredient in a supplement we use (the are B.A.R.F ed) and it says that it cures fur and skin problems...and they have occasional outbreaks of mild feline acne. No longer with fresh lemongrass. I was stunned. Raw cat science is real.

We got cat grass for our cat Freya and she started trowing up at night. Musuc-y barf with little specs of blood (almost stepped in it too).
So I called my mum in a panic (she's a vet) and she told me to take the grass away immediately!
Cat grass is not great for cats, it purges them because it's irritating their stomach (hence the blood). Freya obviously had a lot of fun munching, but throwing up basically because your insides are cut to bits, that does not sound healthy to me.
And yes, we got the grass from a pet store.

Why are some cats obsessed with plastic? Like licking plastic grocery bags or chewing on the thicker plastic that comes around a pack of drink bottles. I have one cat that does this sort of thing all the time and whenever I catch him doing it I'm always afraid that he'll actually eat some of the plastic and get an obstructed bowel. I've read speculation in places that cats that do this are doing so because they're missing something in their diet, which this video reminded me of, but I have two cats that are fed the same and only one does it.

Hello Jackson, thank you for all your help. As for the taste of wheat grass, if it tastes bad, it because you need the nutriments in it. If it tastes ok or neutral, you don't need it. The first time I drank it, it didn't really taste bad. So, I never had it again since I don't need it. 🤣

I have heard/read in cat literature (about them, not BY them!) that when a cat catches an herbivore, the first thing she eats is the organs: liver, intestines, stomach, brain, and there is herbal content in those. This gets her the little bit of greens she needs to round out the meat diet. This is why they like grass. Or at least ONE reason they like grass.
