It's been a while but I'm back with something extra special! I always want my kitties to have the best life experience. I want them to be able to go outside, but right now that isn't in the cards. So, I decided I would do the next thing and bring the outdoors to the indoors. I made my kitties a giant bed of cat grass that they can lay in, play in, munch on, anything! i think it's the world's largest one, mainly because I'm not if anyone else is foolish enough to have a 32ish squarefoot bed of cat grass in their house :)
The only down side-I waited until the hottest day of the year to do this project. I even tried a waiting a few days, but it got hotter and hotter. I was worried all my work making my giant cat grass bed might be undone by the sun beating down at it, but with a little persistence (and a lot of water), everything worked out! Thanks Sarahbutt for your help carrying and for living with a massive cat grass bed in our house :)

You did something exactly what I would do. My entire livingroom wall is filled with perches/shelves and now I just got rid of my couch to make more space for a tree house. ❣️👍
Our cats get their birthdays celebrated, holiday gifts and when my aunt's cat had surgery, he got a gift and a get well card! Very spoiled fur-babies!

In the future just try a plastic under bed storage box. Not oversized and they have their own wheels. Plus water resistant.
since u have a garden, couldn't u make a caged catio area so cats can roam outside and get fresh air

No denying you love your kitties Jason! Here's what I do. I bought a plastic container with wheels and a lid at target. Measurements are 34"×17" and 6 1/2in"ht. $14.00. First, I drilled holes in the bottom with a 1/4 inch drill bit. This is the teadiest part. Lots of holes for drainage. Then filled the container with 4 inches of soil then topped it with a piece of sod. I use the lid under the container to catch the drainage when watering. I have them situated in the rooms where they can get at least 6 hours of sun per day from the windows. I have 3 in my home and my cats love it. You should really try this. Make a video. The sod doesn't die when you have at least 3in of soil. All I do is trim the grass with scissors. It will last for 6 months or longer. I also have one on my upstairs balcony for my pup. She uses it when it's raining and doesn't want to go outside. The wheels make it easy to move around. Can you tell how much I love making and using these...♡
Cinnamon Girl, that sounds fantastic! Have you got pics? (dumb question on youtube, i know) But what sort of seeds are the best nutritionally for dogs and cats? Wheatgrass or what do you use? I have 2 cats and 2 dogs. I want them to have grass to munch on but also a dog toilet when its an emergency. Yours in chihuahua power! Thank you. Also drainage holes in the plastic - if drilling is too tedius, I use a soldering iron to melt plastic = no cracking :-)
I don’t have a drill and was thinking to use a hammer and nail. Would that work or split the plastic?
Also he used dirt but his grass didn’t look good after two weeks. Any idea why?
@@twilit a hammer and nail would split the plastic. Just heat the nail with a lighter or fire, and push it through the plastic with pliers to melt a hole.
You can get a drill capable of drilling styrene and other thin plastics at most Walgreens/CVS type pharmacies for about 5 bucks.
His looked like shit after 2 weeks because it's nowhere near deep enough to grow grass feed. The grass root locked and died, or because of the lack of drainage, root rot.
Those are the 2 killers of cat grass/pet grasses. You want something 6-12 inches deep, like a large flower pot or storage box, something you can add an inch of gravel to, followed by dirt or another growing medium, like coconut husk,giving the grass plenty of space to root out.
It will still die however, even if you trim it. More space just means more time to grow.
@@michaelunderdog5039 oat, wheat, or rye are the recommended pet grasses. Stay away from ornamental grasses and fancy grasses

Can grow in vermiculite next time as it holds moisture, doesn't encourage cats to think it's a litter Box and is a really easy clean up

A couple of things for the future
1. You can generally get large bags at local feed Mills, I get a 50 pound bad for $7
2. Pour it in smaller amount, all the seeds floating when soaking are empty husks and won't sprout.
3. Summer is way too hot with the sun scorching it to grow bare. If you do it outside in the summer, cover it with a layer of straw
4. You don't have to grow it in dirt. Check out videos on fodder.

Might i suggest an easier way? Just buy a bunch of plastic trays with the proper side height. Fill them all up with soil and soaked seeds. Tape the sides together to create one big bed. remove tape to move when needed. Don't have to worry about weight because they are separate or leaking. No need for tarp underneath. jmo I've even used 4 cookie sheets to form a square.

Jason, you're adorable and you're love for your cats, and all cats is undeniable 👍 I have 4 former feral females and 2 shelter males. And I also feed a feral male outside that is the father of the 4 females. So I also love cats!!

You put mesh on topic the sod so the cats can dig it up, and the grass grows through the mesh.

What a purrfect idea. I will do a much smaller version for my 3 spoiled fur babies to put in their worlds largest catio lol. Ok so it may not be the largest, but it's pretty big. Great idea for them! Not only can they eat it and lay on it, but that grass will also allow them to "ground". Grounding is very good for the health of any living creature.

I tried soaking seeds and failed. So i said the heck with it. Got a few bags of miricle grow potting soil. After having seeds in freezer for a week. I used a plastic rectangle food storage. I put soil in about 1" from top. scattered the seed on the top of soil watered it lightly covered seed. Put in sunny area. Watered every day grew fast and healthy.
I trim it, and ware it looks like its dying off i just add seed and water. Continuous growing. Love it. I like easy.
I have 4 cats indoors. But i have a large catio for them. I'm gonna try to grow wheat grass in a child swimming pool. This is very cool guys. Thanks.
PROVEN FACT BY A FARMERS HINT TO GROW ALL GRASS FAST N HEALTHY. ALWAYS PUT INTO FREEZER 1ST THROW WHEREVER YOU WANT GRASS. LIGHTLY COVER BY HEY OR SOIL. WATER EVERYDAY COME UP PRETTY FAST. EASY PEASY. IT WORKS.
You can grow wheatgrass without soil if you try this again.

Thank you Sooo Much for the video! Not only was that adorable, but informative. I was having trouble finding out what type of grass I needed, & I could buy in bulk for my pets. The small kits don't tell you what type it is. And I need a lot. So I used you link for the bulk bag of Wheatgrass. Thank you sooo much. I am going to put a trim around my planters for my dogs with this and maybe one inside in their sunning spot. Thanks again!

Am I the only one who thought this would be a interesting table? Legs and wheels that lock so you can move it in the house and put it in place easily. Then lock the wheels so when they jump onto it wouldn’t move.
My cats are also indoors and my catio doesn't have grass so this is a great idea! But I'm afraid that my cats will pop o pee on the grass because I have plants and they use the pot as toilet and pee kill my plants 😭😭😭

Try adding a litter box on your patio. It helped with my cats, because my patio has dirt around the edges.
1 mistake tho. There are no holes at bottom of those beds. Making them able to get moldy and smelly.

Why didn't you just give it some "boning structure" underneath or even the inside at 1/2 the height like what you did to connect the two halves (if that makes sense) if worried it will bend or snap in the center

i get soil from B&Q in UK, 4 cat litter trays, get some ordinary cat seeds, plant it, water, and it's ready in 4 weeks.
