Big fan. Absolute godfathers of Finnish metal and hugely influential to modern power metal as a whole. Without Stratovarius bands like Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Children Of Bodom, Dragonforce etc simply wouldn't exist. Still putting out great albums to this day and their back catalogue is packed full of classics. Some songs I would recommend would be Black Diamond, Hunting High and Low, Kiss Of Judas, Speed Of Light, A Million Light Years Away, 4000 Rainy Nights and Paradise.
Wow, this song hit a lot harder than I remember, so I have to agree it was a nice introduction to Stratovarius. But, still, I'm gonna say what I came here to say: BLACK DIAMOND!
Timo "Tolkien" Tolkki made the lyrics to this song. Whole "Visions" album is like the enbodiment of the whole power metal scene from late 80's to the album release date '97
Stratovarius is such a great band, one of my personal favorites, their lyrics can become very personal to the listener of how easy one can relate to the feeling they evoke. If you'd like to listen to another ballad from them Forever is a great song that always makes me tear up. Great reaction and keep it up!
Guys... this is an incredible band. Legends of Finnish power metal. They've been active for almost 40 years now. Of their absolutely massive catalogue of 16 studio albums, this is from my absolute favorite album, the 1997 album, Visions, their 6th. They are pioneers of the power metal genre, and have influenced so many. This is a DEEP rabbit hole guys. I'm excited you're diving in. This song in particular is such a nostalgia bomb and showcases their lovely ballad chops. Don't let it fool you though because these guys can really shred too.
Guys. Stratovarius is an essential power metal band that imho does not receive the recognition it deserves. They have influenced some of the most important artists in the genre, like early Sonata Arctica, Children of Bodom, and Nightwish (by NW's own admission!). I am incredibly grateful that we still have them. I saw them last month and it's unbelievable how good they were, at a small crowded venue famous for its bad sound. This album "Visions" is from 1997, and the opening song on it, "Black Diamond" is a Stratovarius classic. Off their newer work... Well just pick one from the album they released last year, "Survive", for me it's a non skipper. Timo Kotipelto still belting out these high notes like it's nothing. I hope to see them again soon and it's a shame how people don't know of them.
