Agni Parthene (Greek with English translation)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 лип 2022
- The repeated part of the song is "Here Nimfi Animfefte", which means "Rejoice, O Unwedded Bride."
Here is the Agni Parthene, an Eastern Orthodox hymn, sung in Greek. The ones singing it are Polish, which can be heard in the "r" and sometimes "i" pronunciation.
This particular song dates back to the 19th century, by Nectarios of Aegina (venerated as a saint in Eastern Orthodoxy). Despite the division between the Catholic Church and Eastern Orthodoxy at this time, our love for our shared Mother has obviously not faded on either side as it has for the Protestant churches. Pray for Christian unity, I don't doubt it hurts Mary to see the people her son died for being as separate as we are.
This one was a bit difficult for me to make, because I wanted to make sure I was as close to literal meaning of each verse as possible. I did something similar with the German Orthodox hymns, except with those, I atleast speak some German. I don't speak a lick of Greek, however, so this was a bit of a learning experience, and because this isn't modern Greek, I also lacked some translation resources and at times had to default to the already translated versions of this in English.
If you have any suggestions for future videos, please leave them in the comments :)

Are you Orthodox or Roman Catholic?
This hymn was written by Saint Nektarios between 1894 and 1908, while he was the director of Rizarios school, which was a school for future priests. When a student would do something bad, instead of forcing a punishment on the student, he would force a punishment on himself which would usually be not eating anything on the dinner table of the school for 3 days. He considered it to be his fault, because he thought that he didn't teach right the students and that was the reason for their mistakes.

An amazing hymn to Theotokos!
This was written by St. Nektarios!
He was born in Σηλυβρία / Silivría in Eastern Thrace. Today that part of Thrace is occupied by the Turks and they call it Silivri.
He was born as Anastàsios Kefalàs and he was a priest. In Silivria we have a holy icon of Theotokos. One night while St. Nektarios was praying he saw Theotokos Maria in front of him, asking him to write a chant for the angels to sing to her.
Nektarios was notorious for his lyrics and melody skills so he wrote that hymn and he chanted it in front of her icon called Silivrianí.
If you want to know who occupied where, open up and read some history. Turks have never committed oppression in places they conquered, like you...
@@basariazmim Ah, a Turk has shown himself so that we may become enlightened about how generous and friendly they have been to Christian minorities throught their history! Or should I say, crime record?
@@Kubilay31820 Even the grandchildren of Genghis Khan, Hulagu spared ALL Christians on his way, even when he killed everyone in Bagdad, he spared the Christians.
Furthermore even during the recent independance war, Atatürk was profoundly sad for the young greek soldiers who died for the will of the british imperialists, once he entered Izmir he refused to walk on the Greek flag (even tho you walked on Turkish flags) and said all people’s flags deserve respect.
You may be Greek, but we are the Anatolians, our language and lineage might be Turk, our composition is nearly identical to the Ancient Greeks and the Hittites, you guys all became dogmatic and unable to think, while Turkish people are more and more enlightened, we are the proud keepers of the heritage of the ancient philosophers that you are throwing away and rejecting.
If you do not use your brain and adapt to modern times and the future, and you want war for nothing (you want hagia sophia ? We can send you rock by rock and you build it back in Athen, is it worth making your young people die for a stupid war ?), you’ll only be swollen by the strongest fish in the end.
@@loupbleu3177 First, Genghis Khan was not a Turk, but a Mongol. Therefore, Hulagu sparing Christians does not mean Turks are merciful or friendly towards Christians. And- if you argue that there is a Turkish name, Cengiz- it is simply because of the Linguistic phenomenon called “Sprachbund”, not Genghis Khan being of Turkic stock. Furthermore, he spared the Christians of the city because his wife was a Christian and she wanted him not to harm them.
Second, if you think Mustapha Kemal was generous or even compassionete towards the Greeks, you must think again. You can just look up St. Chrysostomos of Smyrna, or 1922 Smyrna Catastrophe. I cannot understand how a people reem a man so much up to the point of worshipping him and thinking of him as “perfect” or “blameless”.
Third, I am an ethnic Serbian, not a Greek. However, my forefathers were forcefully converted into Islam and brainwashed to think themselves as Turks. I lived in the country. I know how your regime teaches about Christianity and Turkish race. It is totally indifferent to what the Germans did throughout their dark-ages (1933-45). If you can show me an evidance as to why you classify the Hittites as Turkic, even though they were cleary Indo-European, I will believe you. However, please do not show me what your “supreme leader” supported during his reign, the Sun Language theory. Your arrival in Anatolia was, at most, a millenia ago. And you are trying to erase the Anatolian Greek heritage by teaching the Ionians as them not being Greeks but “fascinated by the Greek culture”. Further, the Scythians were not Turkic, but Indo-Iranian. You can search it up anywhere you want. The Andranova Culture area was not Turkic. You do not show up until the 8th BC. century. You can argue: But the Huns and the Avars were Turkic! How many of them? Not every tribe coming to Europe from the east of the Ural Mountains were Turkic.
And, lastly, I do not think a Turk can call the peoples his “great leaders” oppressed for a well 500 years ignorant. I recommend you should search your own history a little before affronting the people to whom you should make an apology, such as the Greeks or the Armenians.
Greek is such a beautiful language but no matter what tongue it is sung in the Agni Parthene is always very moving. This is one of the nicest versions I've ever heard. The singer is amazing!

For all you it's not a song, it's a Greek Byzantine hymn. The hymn "Holy Virgin Despoina" is a non-liturgical hymn, composed by Saint Nektarios of Aegina in the 19th century AD, during his tenure as director of the Theological School in Rizario, Athens, Greece.
Tradition has the Virgin appearing before Saint Nektarios in the monastery Aegina Greece, and asking him to write down on paper a special hymn, where the angelic choirs were ready to sing it. This Hymn was "Holy Virgin Despina".
This is an Orthodox hymn, but it has the amazing ability to bring peace to all who hear its holy words. This chanting is truly beautiful and the All Holy Mother of God deserves this Praise.

The lead singer is fantastic. Didn't see any one else comment on that. That they are Polish is astounding.
Also, for those who didn't read the description: The repeated part of the song is "Here Nimfi Animfefte", which means "Rejoice, O Unwedded Bride." (publisher's wording)
But the Greeks would say Hail and not Rejoice. "Hail, Bride Unwedded."
'Rejoice' doesn't fit. The Theotokos is being praised, not asked to be happy about her situation. And the Rejoice is not directed to us because it is clear in the Greek, that the Theotokos is being addressed, not us. To make Rejoice work here, the Virgin Mary would have had to be a passive element in the Incarnation. She wasn't. She had, and made, a choice. For her life and her actions, she should be Hailed. That is done here.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL YOU FOLLOWERS OF JESUS !

Will you embrace your Ukrainian brothers instead of killing them?
I pray your church removes the currant patriarch. Kgb scum :/ just submit to Rome and you'll be treated like the byzantine catholics. Which by all means are just orthadox that is under the wing of the bishop of Rome.
@@justonecornetto80 shut up man, this person said they are proud of being Orthodox. Did he mention Ukraine? Did he mention Chechnya? Did he mention Nigeria? No, shut up. Don't bring your degenerate politics here
@@bbgamegodpnw never disrespect a father. The church of Rome has heretical beliefs, and heretical statements that came from the Popes of that church

You want to pray because you don't have your own thought on what to do? Why so you seek guidance ?

Yes it's beautiful.
Our synagogues are very modest and feel more like home, unlike the magnificent cathedrals... And the hymns are much more like sang together than the enchanting hymns of churches...
I wish our synagogues would take just a little bit of inspiration and would build houses of worship more grandiose, and the hymns more angelic...
Both are beautiful.
It was great to hear it with English subtitles ! What a beautiful song , sang so beautifully a massive thank you and God bless 😇😇😇
