  • Interview with Matt Courtman, Project Ivory Bill.
Hunt for the Ivory Billed Woodpecker, The largest of the woodpeckers north of Mexico and the third largest in the world, the Ivory-billed Woodpecker was a bird of old-growth forests in the southeastern U.S. and Cuba. Destruction of its forest habitat caused severe population declines in the 1800s, and only very small numbers survived into the twentieth century. It was thought to have gone extinct in the middle of the twentieth century. The bird was rediscovered in the "Big Woods" region of eastern Arkansas in 2004, but has not been relocated since.#enviormental #woodpecker #birds #animals #ivorybilledwoodpeckers #rarebird #endangeredspecies #birdwatchingworld #extinctanimals #Matt Courtman

I have done endangered species surveys on the Golden Cheeked Warbler and Black Capped Vireo. Found a Golden Cheeked nest very first transect, feeding babies! Took the others back to location to see them. Found 2 black capped video nest. Took my daughter to Lost Maples in central Texas and she found a black capped on the nest in 3 minutes. Right out of the car! The male was on the nest. Them we went uphill to where there were some mature junipers mixed with Spanish Oak (Red Oak) and live Oak. We saw Golden Cheeked fledglings being fed by the parents, all in an hours time

I've saw the Elegant Trogan in the Chiricahuas 3 minutes down the canyon trail! Followed for 15 minutes. Got the Tropical parula at a campground in the Davis Mountains. My other daughter spotted it first

Matt, Geoffrey Hill points out that IB habitat has never been gone/completely wiped out. The drone video of an IB flying across with obvious white trailing edge and diagnostic 1/4 turn when landing is a positive sighting

Anyway, I seem to have a "gift", like God brings them to me? Once I was carrying my 3 year old grandson on my shoulders and prayed the Lord would show him a hummingbird. Before the words were out of my mouth a hummer appeared hovering for 2 seconds 15 ft in front of us Instantly. I would really like to get to Florida. I think that is a great place to see the Ivory Billed. If you read all this, THANKS!

Professor Hill also points out that logging would increase beetle numbers as they knock a lot of stuff down and leave it. However, this allowed netter access to these areas, and people were shooting them for reasons you already know. I'm not trying to convince you because you already know they persist.

Professor Hill also said they would have a photo or video soon. That was in 2007.

They fly straight away powerfully and get above the canopy and are gone in seconds. I just don't think people realize how powerful of flyers they are
