    Hello Jani. I just purchased new everyday flatware and wondered what to do with the old. OMG am I glad I found you. I am an avid crafter and also spend lots of time in my gardens so am looking forward to making lots of your projects for my garden and as gifts to my fellow gardener friends. I love what you've done. My old flatware isn't as nice as some of yours so I'm going to be watching out at thrift stores for some interesting pieces. I am now watching all of your videos!! Have a wonderfully creative and safe day.
    Update: Just tried my first bug like the one in this video. Do you use silver only? My fork was not silver, just everyday stainless or whatever they use for cheap stuff, and either you have super human strength, and I'm a strong country girl lol, or your stuff is much softer than mine. I broke a leg off and there was noooo way it was going to curl around like yours did. I love the metal straw idea but even my husband, who is a 6'4", 250lb. heavy equipment mechanic, could not get my fork to bend easily. Am I just too cheap and need to find nicer materials?

      Hi!
      Thank you!
      If you are using regular flatware you’ll have to anneal it. That will soften the metal and allow you to bend it easier. Most of the flatware in my videos are silver plated. They are softer, especially if they’re really old. You sound awesome and I hope you have fun with this!

      Thank you. I did see your annealing video after I’d watched some others. I’d love to show you my first attempts but unsure as to where I should sent photos. Thank you for your prompt reply and your kind words.

    I’m new to this world and love your instructive video. I have a couple questions…how do you clean the forks before working them? Do they need to be tumbled? Thanks

      @JustJani  10 місяців тому

      Hi! I don’t clean mine unless they’re really dirty and then with just soap and water. There’s no point in cleaning well just to hammer or bend, they’ll just get dirty again. If you’re going to solder, your joints must be clean! For that I use steel wool. Hope this helps! Jani

    Hi Jani. Thanks for sharing your craft. Will the crystal rivets tolerate the tumbler?

      Hi! I don’t think so. I’m afraid to even try it. Even if they didn’t break they’d probably be scratched up.

    what kind of media do you use in your tumbler?

      Hi,
      I use stainless steel tumbling media pins. I got my in the gun reloading section.
      I haven’t tried this particular brand, but the pins are the same as mine.
