There's a lot from the book, though some things are obviously left out. I like to say that the movie is a distillation of the book, not better or worse. Just another way that it's similar to The Princess Bride.
Definitely a different DeNiro than you have ever seen before. (I haven't read the book.) Marketing: if you break the film down into commercial or even a full trailer, it looks deeply silly. It works because it takes itstime to tell the story.

NO WAY the way I gasped so loud when I saw this notification!!! This is my favorite movie OF ALL TIME. I played it every year since my childhood. It still holds up and will always bring me comfort whenever I’m in any mood. You guys have seriously no idea how happy this just made me. I was about to request it to you guys, but I’m glad you beat me to it. I just have no words when it comes to explaining my love for this movie. It’s in my top 3. The other two being “The Sound of Music” and “Mamma Mia” but they’re in the number 1 spot and I can’t choose between them because they have a lot of significance for me and my entire family, but if I had to choose just one movie to choose as my ultimate favorite, it would be Stardust. I seriously can’t thank you guys enough for this. It’s purely delightful. Simply perfect. Way better than the book.

"Now remember, Captain Shakespere has a fearsome reputation!"- Best scene in the entire film, by far. Like other people commented already, I literally gasped when I saw you reacted to this!!! It is literally one of my most favourite films of all time and a criminally underrated one. A unique fantasy gem, it has everything: fantasy, adventure, romance, humour, plot twists, great casting, costumes, landscapes and perfect atmosphere. Loved this reaction!🌟
I named one of my 2 new kittens Ipswich, because of this movie. Ipswich is one of the oldest towns in England, and in the film was held as the most adventurest places to go.
IT IS a classic for me!!! An absolute favourite and all-round beautiful fantasy. The originality of the story, the humour, the cast, and they did build up and wrapped up the story so amazingly well. I LOVE this movie. The princes being named in order (Secundus is the second son, etc), the Roman numerals on their clothes, the fact that Daredevil and Superman have a little fencing fight 😂
I LOOOOOOOVE THIS FILM! Favorite fairytale movie. It happens to be my birthday this week and I take this as a gift. You guys are awesome, and it's amazing I get to watch your reactions to it. THANK YOU!
I know you were trying to make a joke but that is 100% serious, solid advice. Before you get married, you gotta go through some experiences including what he said. It will make or break the relationship and it could even save you 10-20 years of your life.
@@earth2saka Agreed! I always vetted any guy I dated by going camping and trying to set up a tent together at night. Or traveling together with all the airport stresses, etc. Are they a team player? Can they take feedback? What happens when something doesn't go their way? What happens when I make a mistake? Of course, some people show you who they are without ever needing to go on a trip, and you gotta trust that ish - the trip only amplifies the badness!
This is one of my favorite movies and my favorite of Robert De Niro’s roles. You can tell he’s having fun and it shows off his range. Also Michelle Pfeiffer is perfect as an absolutely evil but funny witch- the saggy boob moment always makes me laugh.
As a Brit, I recognise a lot of the faces in this. Im sure a lot of my fellow Brits do too. I remember watching this in my friends house. Randomly put it on since it just came out on dvd. I was blown away by it. Daredevil has been my favourite Marvel character [4th overall] since 2011 after reading [and starting with] Brubaker's run. Getting to see Charlie Cox get the role of Daredevil, I was so happy for him. This is one I always recommend because it flew under the radar for many people.
Was so obsessed with this movie that I went 3 times to see it in the theater! 😄It's still on the list of my "secretly I enjoy and re-watch at least every year" -movies.
@@LordBaktor What other movies are on your list? Mine includes 2005 Pride & Prejudice, Galaxy Quest, Practical Magic, and others that I know I'm forgetting. :)
@@em8066 Terminator 2, Aliens, Jurassic Park, Robocop, Starship Troopers, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Conan the Barbarian, all three LotR, Labyrinth, Shawshank Redemption, Up, Wall-E, Princess Bride and, as mentioned, Stardust. Star Wars used to be on there but new Star Wars is so bad that it's soured old Star Wars for me.
Michelle plays a wonderful villain, and I was really impressed with De Niro's comedy chops. I really saw you all become totally invested when we got to the lightning pirates, which is when I fell for the movie too.
I haven't clicked on a reaction that fast before in a long time! I can always watch this movie every day! Such a uniquely well built world that inspired me to world-build and write! Also that superb narrator!
So i remember the absolute utter LACK of advertising for this movie. They paid to have a few banners hung in the malls, but literally, ZERO, marketing was done on this. The initial driver to this movie for me and my friends was Neil Gaiman, "GOOD OMENS" Writer. ANYTHING he touches is gold and STARDUST was no different!
I don't think it needed any marketing in the UK. Take That were riding very high at that point and the film and single (with video referencing the film) were released at the same time. It probably did pretty well here - the single got to #2 and is one of TT's best known songs from their 21st century reboot. No idea why it wasn't marketed better elsewhere but i guess its 'close cousin' The Princess Bride suffered with that too. Noone knew how to market this kind of film.
I saw this on a whim on a rainy day as a teenager. It has since become one of my favorite movies of all time and got me reading all of Neil Gaiman's books. It so cleverly plays on old fairy tale traditions, folk tale tropes, and real ancient traditions (like reading runes and animal entrails for portents) and yet has such a love for them that it still feels magical. I'm so glad more reactors are watching this film. I hope it finally gets the recognition it deserves.
Just stumbled on you guys while watching Pride and Prejudice. You guys have a great vibe and are a great example of solid good men. Glad to have subbed. 👍
@@hollyh1023 That’s BS and you know it. The women all consented. Then decades later they’re claiming not consenting to “rough sex” meaning they did consent to sex. Stop being an easily manipulated ridiculous person!
Omg omg! These guys are definitely in for a treat! This is one of those underrated movies that absolutely deserves to be a classic. It is a classic in my book!!
It was refreshing seeing the main couple realise their love for each other just over half way through, and not in the climax of the film. Great feel good movie!
This movie is definitely in my top 5 favorite movies of all time and I was just like you, coming cold to this movie many years ago shortly after it came out, just saw it for sale in a movie store somewhere, thought the synopsis sounded interesting and popped it in. Man I was BLOWN away by how understated the beginning is and how the movie 'poster' doesn't really give much away or hint at the plot at all. Its a hidden gem that I wish more people were exposed to. Absolutely delighted to see this notification pop up and see that you guys loved it as much as you did!
@@EChacon I didn't either. I loved the movie and then wondered what happened to him. I watch daredevil on a dare and didn't realize it was him until halfway through first season. 😳
I watched this movie as a kid and later watched Daredevil when it started airing. For the whole 2 seasons I never realized it's the same actor from Stardust.
Stardust is a modern fairy tale. It's fantastical and romantic, but it's also weird and often gory, the way fairy tales were before we got the sanitized Disney version.
One of my favourite movies. I loved the song playing in the End credits - 'Rule the World' by British band, Take That. Narrated by the great Sir Ian McKellen himself.
"Stardust" is a wonderful classic from the 2000s, packed with adventure, mystery, and whimsical charm. It masterfully combines fantasy, romance, and humor, making it a timeless favorite for fans of magical adventures like me. The film's captivating storyline and imaginative world-building ensure it remains an enduring gem.
I had this movie on DVD and was OBSESSED with it when I was a kid. It's so underrated, and many people don't even know it exists so I'm so happy you guys reacted to it. It's such a fun movie to watch
Without a doubt one of the most underrated fantasy film and it’s even more crazy to realize especially rewatching it the 2nd time that not only was the original book by Neil Gaiman (Good Omens, Coraline, the Sandman), but the actor who played Tristan is Matt Murdock/Daredevil himself, Charlie Cox and the director for this movie was the same director who would go on to do _X-Men: First Class, Kick-Ass_ and especially _The Kingsman_ films, Matthew Vaughn. Also I think the film and the book it was based are equally as good, but one noticeable difference is that compared to the original book in which the Sky Pirates appeared and picked up Tristan and Yvaine and later dropped them off a chapter or two later, their roles were expanded in the film in which Captain Shakespeare (Robert De Niro) befriends them and provides Tristan and Yvaine with new clothes, while also teaching Tristan how to fence and Yvaine how to dance. Lastly, much like Giancarlo Esposito and Ben Mendelsohn, Michelle Pfeiffer is born to portray villainous characters in every film she’s in, with her role as Lamia being one of her signature ones next to her roles as Catwoman in _Batman Returns_ and Eris in _Sinbad_
You’ll never know how excited I got when I saw y’all were gonna watch this movie. It’s been one of my favorites since I was very little and I am sad it doesn’t get the love it deserves, but I love that you guys loved it as well!
Watched this when it came out in cinemas and I never understood why it wasn't more popular. It's such a fun movie and really funny too with a stellar cast! Glad you guys reacted to this
Stardust is the movie that made me love cinema! I was 10 when it came out and barely watched any movies, but my little mind was BLOWN at all the different plot points. It's also a really good transition between children's and adult movies for kids that age - the plot is similar to fairytales, but it's much more scary and deals with more mature themes (but still in a fairly light manner).
Very fun reaction from you guys! Hands down one of my all time favourite movies. Up there with - as you also mentioned - The Princess Bride in terms of 'cozy, comedic, feel-good fantasy movies'. Can't help but grin ear-to-ear everytime I watch it.
OMG! IVE BEEN ASKING & BEGGING U GUYS TO REACT TO THIS MOVIE! I CANT BELIEVE YOU GUYS ARE ACTUALLY REACTING TO IT! IM CURRENTLY IN THE HOSPITAL AND THIS JUST MADE MY DAY!! THANKS SO MUCH! LOVE U GUYS!!!❤❤❤
Funny you mentioned the trailer maybe not being good enough but it was the trailer that made me go see it. It shows just the right amount and has a great buildup without giving away the substance of the story. Also I didn't hear anyone talk about the music. This has one of the best fantasy soundtracks of all time.
You guys are rapidly becoming my favourite movie reactors and there's a real depth, intellect, humanity and sincerity to the work you do. Really, really appreciate it.
wonderful film, very underrated. With all the star power if this film you'd have thought it would be more popular. I didn't realize that until after I watched the First season of Daredevil that Charlie Cox was the main character in this film. What range!
I adore this film edit: It's so crazy seeing this film after all these years. You have Jigsaw(Punisher villain) as Daredevil's dad, then we see Daredevil fight Superman, who then goes and finds Juliet who's being hunted by Catwoman, and then ferried by Taxi Driver. All the while Magneto narrates
You guys should watch “Ladyhawke” for another good Michele Pfeifer fantasy. It also has Rutger Hauer and Matthew Broderick and is a VERY underrated 80s fantasy. I think y’all would really like it!
So glad you guys reacted to this, literally wore out our family blockbuster card by taking this film out again and again and singing the credit song in school assemblies
HECK YEAH STARDUST!!! Such an underrated classic!! I always feel it's worth mentioning in the same breath as Princess Bride and I wish it got even a fraction as much recognition.
I'm so happy you all watched Stardust! It's one of my favorite movies, and I have no memory of seeing any marketing when it came out. I'm so glad you guys got around to seeing and reacting to it. I loved watching you all experience it, and I'm so happy you fellas liked it!
I was in middle school when this movie came out. I saw a trailer during another film and I knew it was my kind of movie. But none of my friends would go with me so my dad just took me and my little sister. It became a favorite of the three of us. So this is one of those movies that unites us as a family. Also thanks to it, I became a Neil Gaiman fan
Also when they mess up the candle travel and end up stranded in the cloud and Tristan goes "aw you stoopid cow!!" We just cracked up laughing. It became an overused insult at our household (between my sister and I)
Aw so glad you guys watched this movie as I haven’t seen a lot of people react to it and so glad you loved it as much as I do. It’s definitely a hidden gem/ diamond in the rough sort of movie and do think and hope over time Stardust will become a fantasy romance cult classic just like Princess Bride is. I remember watching this for the first time when I was 7 the year it came out and instantly fell in love with it and have continued to love it as an adult, it really does have this unique magic to it that makes it feel really different to any other fantasy movie I have seen before and think that’s down to all the weird and wonderful characters and places in the movie as well as the amazing plot that kind of just takes you here there and everywhere. When I was young and even now I just remember wanting to be in the fantasy world of Stormhold going on adventures like Tristan and Yvaine. Hope you consider watching more fantasy romance action adventure movies since you guys loved this one so much! A disney movie i would recommend that has fantasy action adventure, romance and is somewhat historical/ mythological is the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (2010) (with Jake Gyllenhaal as the lead) i always loved the parkour action sequences and storytelling in this movie. And you guys probably will have seen these movies already but The Mummy (1999) and The Mummy Returns (2001) (with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz) were also 2 action adventure fantasy/ mythological/ history movies that i was obsessed with from a young age so would love seeing you guys react to them too! Great reaction as always guys, looking forward to many more!
This movie holds a special place in my heart and not enough ppl watch it! I'm so glad u guys get to experience it!!! Can't wait to watch this when I get off work and get home!!
That was a fantastic reaction. Stardust is admittedly one of my favorite movies of all time. Fun fact: Neil Gaiman not only wrote the book but he also wrote the script for the movie!
ADORE this movie and it was a pleasant surprise for me as well when I first watched it back when. It is kind of a comfort movie now :3 So much fun watching you three get more and more into this one! I feel like you could really tell that the actors were having so much fun on set with this one too.
OMG! I'm so excited that you guys watched Stardust! This is one of my absolute favorite movies and definitely a comfort movie for when I just want something to watch when I'm not feeling good or need something to make me happy! It is criminal to me that no one knows about this movie and I'm so glad you guys stuck through and saw how amazing this movie is!!!!
I was so hyped seeing the notification ❤ stardust is one of my all time favorite films. Like a warm blanket describes it really good, a feel good movie with great cast and beautiful messages and some of the soundtrack is in my epic playlist! Definitely an underrated movie ❤
I already know that I'm going to love this reaction! 😊 One of my favorite comfort films. This movie is where I was introduced to Charlie Cox before he was Daredevil. And I keep forgetting that both Sienna Miller and Henry Cavill are both in this. I've read the book. And it's slightly different than the movie. Looking forward to the next reaction. 😊
Omg I haven't even seen your reaction yet, this just popped up in my feed and I am PUMPED! This is one of my favorite movies and I'm so excited you guys got to watch it
This is my favorite movie of all time. There is no one film that brings me so much comfort and joy than this movie. I am so excited to see you guys watch this!
On the outside it looks like a goofy fantasy b-movie. But in reality it's actually pretty good. Also, it was written by Neil Gaiman and we all know he writes some really good (dark) fantasy books.
This movie is one of my all-time favorites, after The Mummy, it has everything, adventure, romance, excellent actors, comedy, it's simply a movie to have a good time, I've seen it a thousand times and I'll see it a thousand more (despite having great actors, being able to see a young Charlie Cox is what excites me the most, I would like for him to have more recognition honestly, besides being a fabulous Daredevil)
I saw this in the theatre with two friends, we were the only 3 people there. It was a wonderful experience, I still absolutely LOVE this movie to this day. So glad you guys enjoyed this so much too!
I have such nostalgia for this film. I was studying film production at uni just after this came out. The VFX director & miniatures builder came to give a great lecture, breaking down various scenes of Stardust & other films they'd done including Casino Royale, National Treasure etc. It was fascinating & just a great thing to look back on. The film was generally a big hit over in the UK but probably less known in the US. The score is also brilliant & compliments the adventurous nature of the film.
Seriously, how do you guys find those underrated, hidden movies that I absolutely love?! 😱😍 Edit: I totally agree with your scoring for this movie. This one deserves 5/5 all across the board. It's such a good love story! I watched it with my girlfriend just last week. She totally loved it!
I'm glad you guys reacted to this movie, because as almost everyone says, it's an underrated movie. I laughed for like 3 days in a row when I saw that blue blood came out of the brother who was slit. It is full of fun details that make you laugh. From "grow up and mature", "Do you think I'm your mother?", "OH! What's your name? BERNARD", Billy the goat and Michelle Pfeiffer's expressions, and the "GGRRRRRRR" of the sky pirates kill me . I knew they had to like it. I always see The Oak as if he is falling asleep (tired or bored) and I die of sadness, but then he comes out with THOSE reflections on LIFE and THOSE MESSAGES, and that is why he is my favorite and has a place in my little heart, because he sees beyond the movie and seems to be such a hard being and melts sweetness inside. :3 I add to the cast the great actor of golden Hollywood Peter O'toole: "Lawrence of Arabia" who plays the King.
I saw this in the theater as a teenager and it was and still is probably my favorite romantic comedy of all time. It had a bit of everything with an excellent cast, great chemistry between the leads, and all the good guys lived happily ever after at the end. What's not to like?
As a fan of Neil Gaiman I was lucky I didn’t miss this when it came out. As you know Princess Bride is based on a William Goldman story and that drew director Rob Reiner and many actors to it. Neil Gaiman has a lot more name recognition in Britain which probably explains how so many great British actors signed up.
WHAT!!! OMG THIS IS ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOKS. I FOUND OUT IT WAS A MOVIE AND I CRIED. BOTH ARE FANTASTIC AND THEIR OWN WONDERFUL STORY. I've never seen anyone react to this. Im so happy i could cry lol. Much love from Milwaukee! Cant wait to watch now! Another underrated movie is Secondhand Lions
SOOO excited to see this today! it has been a long couple of weeks, and this just made my day brighter. one of my all time favorite comfort films, wish more people reacted to it. maybe they will now! 😁

@@em8066 Very wise.
I loved his Daredevil, too!
I watched this film cause I've been a charlie fan since I watched daredevil, it was such a pleasant surprise, I loved it
Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this film when I was younger and watched it so many times, this is such a blast of nostalgia for me
Was so obsessed with this movie that I went 3 times to see it in the theater! 😄It's still on the list of my "secretly I enjoy and re-watch at least every year" -movies.
Fly your Stardust-flag proudly!
I have such a list but mine's not secret. There's a number of movies I watch once a year and Stardust is on it.
It was quite heavily advertised in the UK.
@@pobstrel This was deep in San Francisco of all places. So yeah they werent even advertising in major cities in the US, at all.
I never heard of it till the DVD came out and my sister recommended it. Would never have watched it otherwise. The cast is fantastic.
One of my favourite De Niro performances, just seems like he's having a great time on set
OMG! Finally! Someone reacts to this fabulous movie! 💚
I'm so happy you guys decided to check this movie out! It is such a hidden gem! Absolutely one of my top 10 favorites for sure!!
Absolutely enjoyed watching the full reaction with you guys! 💪💚
Just stumbled on you guys while watching Pride and Prejudice.
You guys have a great vibe and are a great example of solid good men.
Glad to have subbed. 👍
Crossover we never know we needed Superman versus Daredevil
FYI
This movie is based on a book by Neil Gaiman.
The author who wrote the original book for
Coraline.
If only he hadn’t turned out to be just another predator…
@@hollyh1023 That’s BS and you know it. The women all consented.
Then decades later they’re claiming not consenting to “rough sex” meaning they did consent to sex.
Stop being an easily manipulated ridiculous person!
Also Good Omens
@@hollyh1023yeah, some people aren’t meant to be famous
Yeah, I loved and laugh so hard when they show Humphrey and The Captain flirting 😂❤
This is where Daredevil learned to fight😂😂❤
Was looking for this comment 😆
The funny thing, is that I didn’t realize that the actor who played Tristan was the same actor who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil.
Neil Gaiman does dark fantasy very well.
Fun Fact: The book this was based on is by the same author as Coraline, American Gods, Sandman and (half of) Good Omens
Oak's "Goddammit Answer" made laugh so damn hard I woke up my dog.
This is one of my favorites movies. I traveled around UK to find the beautiful landscape from the film
Some amazing British actors cameo in the film (The Brothers, Soap from Lock Stock)
This and Ink Heart were my daughters favourites.
Get well as soon as possible.
@@bodresz Aww, thank you so much! That means a lot! 😊
I hope you're healthy now 🙏
Funny you mentioned the trailer maybe not being good enough but it was the trailer that made me go see it. It shows just the right amount and has a great buildup without giving away the substance of the story.
Also I didn't hear anyone talk about the music. This has one of the best fantasy soundtracks of all time.
FIRST!!!! Also, my most favourite fantasy film ever! Now i'm off to see the reaction. Thanks guys
What range!
I adore this film
edit: It's so crazy seeing this film after all these years.
One of my all time favorites! Thank you so much for reacting to it!
I’m glad you all enjoyed it!
So excited to watch y’all’s reactions to this absolute GEM.
It is such a good film.
RUNNING to my laptop! Just got the notification on my phone 😂🙌 LOVE this movie....very under rated!
OMG this is one of my childhood (and current) favorite movies!!
One of my favorite comfort films.
This is one of my favorite movies and I'm so excited you guys got to watch it
Mak Strong(Septimus) and Jason Flemyng(Primus) also worked together in "Kick-Ass."
This is my favorite movie of all time. There is no one film that brings me so much comfort and joy than this movie. I am so excited to see you guys watch this!
This was a favorite when I was growing up. Watched it a handful of times. And y'all uploaded this on the day I finished reading the book! Good timing.
This movie is like a wee hidden gem 💎. So glad to see your guys reaction to it.
One of my favorite fils as a teen and that soundtrack is brilliant..Take That's songs in the end credits is a nostalgic song for me
On the outside it looks like a goofy fantasy b-movie. But in reality it's actually pretty good. Also, it was written by Neil Gaiman and we all know he writes some really good (dark) fantasy books.
ONE OF THE BEST LITERARY ADAPTATIONS THERE IS, I LOVE THIS STORY, FROM MY FAVORITE MOVIES
When I was younger I thought it was SO fucking cool that the royals literally had BLUE blood 😂😂
I love this film! I'm so glad to see you guys react to this
I saw this in the theatre with two friends, we were the only 3 people there. It was a wonderful experience, I still absolutely LOVE this movie to this day. So glad you guys enjoyed this so much too!
I absolutely love seeing someone watch my favorite movies for the first time. I was so happy to see Stardust on your thumbnail. 😄
Edit: I totally agree with your scoring for this movie.
I add to the cast the great actor of golden Hollywood Peter O'toole: "Lawrence of Arabia" who plays the King.
I feel like stardust is the next generation's princess bride. Both perfect films about true love, magic, miracles, sword fighting, etc
I saw this in the theater as a teenager and it was and still is probably my favorite romantic comedy of all time. It had a bit of everything with an excellent cast, great chemistry between the leads, and all the good guys lived happily ever after at the end. What's not to like?
omg one of my favorite movies!! so glad you picked it up!
Henry Cavill started as a young hearthrob in The Tudors the year Stardust was released.
The author of this book is Neil Gaiman, who also wrote The Sandman, Coraline, American Gods, and many other fantastic books.
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this! This was such a good yet underrated film!
