- Today, I got my first interview with a courier company for my cargo van business. Please learn from my mistakes and make sure you are fully prepared. The struggle is real.
I'm closely following your journey. Not because I'm interested in becoming a cargo hauler but because I am encouraged by your positive attitude and great humanity.

If you're an owner operator a 60/40 split doesn't sound quite right. I commonly hear about that as the pay rate for drivers doing expedited van loads. But congrats and much respect for your ambition and being out there doing it.
Yea, it's not the best, but I'm grateful either way. Long as they get me loads and I can make the money I need, can't really complain. Appreciate the support 👍🏾

Congrats man big step. I’m in my second month now and will start posting videos shortly. A main reason is because I’m not in a metropolitan area so viewers will get to see a different side of things almost. But it’s a grind out there no matter what. I don’t think some viewers actually understand how much time and effort actually goes into this. My first month I was online like 24/7 and it’s dwindled a little bit but not too much yet.

Good job, hopefully they keep u busy... I recently signed on with a company called America Expedite, had to up my insurance $100 more than what I was already paying for commercial insurance to even get in the door with them. I've only been offered 4 jobs in the almost 3 months of being on with them, just got off the phone with progressive in Laurens my insurance right back to what it was prior lol
Awe man, I have their application saved on my computer. I don't want to up my insurance for them. I called and they said my market is not busy so they are on hold. Hope you can get some steady work tho.

Congrats! Off topic, do you have a biz acct at NFCU? I'm pretty sure previously you said you had an account there, but be sure to sign up for a biz one. With your current history you can easily get a biz credit card in your company name. It'll allow you to build your credit history further and if you use credit....it's under your company name and NOT your personal name. You can even transfer personal credit debt to the biz CC's and instantly increase your personal credit by removing the debt. I'm kind of behind you as I am attempting to get a van this week. I've been doing dispatch, flex,veho,frayt and shipt in my car, but I have an NFCU biz acct, CC and my S Corp all set up. Congrats again.😎

Have you ever looked into Laundry delivery? Check with local Laundromat that do wash fold pick up and delivery.
I did, not crazy about picking up and delivering someone's draws....lol...and the market is not too big for that out here. Appreciate the advise tho 👍🏾

No, the company calls it hotshot loads, I will be using my van, no trailers.
Is a TWIC card the same as TSA. You said you got your TSA thru Jumpp Logistics? Currently doing deliveries from them now.
Yes I have TSA cert through Jumpp Logistics. I only got it because they have airport pickups coming to my market, ask your Dispatcher about it. Twic is different, I think that's like access to fed buildings, ships, medical stuff, something like that.
Congrats man, you mentioned in your last video about maybe having to raise your insurance. Did they make you raise it?
I forgot to mention that, glad you reminded me. No, insurance is good where it is at. They only require 300 liability, they cover my cargo unless I damage it by neglect.

No LLC needed. You would sign up just as an independent contractor
Is the TSA/STA certification the same as the having a TWIC card?
Kind of, tsa for airport clearance, twic gives you access to federal buildings, ships, medical, and things like that.

With you owning your business. How do you pay yourself. Like percentage wise? I heard one person say, " he do the 65% 25% 10% method. I was thinking more like giving myself an salary. Which I know I can pay myself anything. But I want my business to grow.
I pay myself between $800 to $900 per week, owner distribution. You can do it however you want. I don't have a lot of expenses, so I make $1,200 or more per week, pay myself business account to personal checking as an S-corp. I save the rest.
