A sensationally helpful video. I was so happy to have found this support. Thanks for that! I would have to re-unpick Pinch Pleats curtains to get a larger width of curtain for a new window. Would you advise me to take out the buckram and sew on a pencil pleat tape or stitch the buckram between the outer fabric and the lining and interlining in the old pinch pleat seams and then reattach the metal hooks next to the seam? The curtains are a heavy silk blend fabric that is approximately 274 cm long and designed to cover a width of 4 meters. (ps: I bought these curtains as pre owened). You would help me a lot. In Switzerland we don't normally know this type of hooks. Kind regards.

It does get easier with practice. Do try the two handed approach. Most people just try and push the pin hook through with one hand and it can leave your fingers very sore! Good luck
We spray our hooks with silicone and this helps alot. You can also put them in an empty jar and spray them in the jar this makes them a little slippery. Hope this helps someone. x
Yes that's a great tip Sarah 👍 I was reminded of that in an earlier comment and discussed it there. I spray my boxes of hooks when they arrive and as such, completely forgot to mention it in the tutorial 🤪

What type/style of curtains are you using? I am replacing old curtains in my mothers home and any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏.
Hi there, these curtains are cartridge pleat heading but any hand made buckram heading like pinch pleat or goblet pleat require on hooks so the method is the same. If you have heading tape on your curtains then you'll need different hooks.
Make the small investment for a pin setter...I did pins by hands for years and years...yes, painful...if you insist upon doing them by hand, if you take a small screw driver or knife and slightly open the pin back it will be helpful. Also spray with silicon spray. Pin setter is easier and faster.
Yes, a few people recommended a pinner on my Facebook post also. I should get one and try then I can offer a more measured comparison. I'm sure pinner weren't available when I started making curtains so I just learnt and managed without. I do spray all my boxes of metal hooks when they arrive though so yes, that's a very good tip that I forgot to include in my video. Thanks 👍
Jet pinner is good for accurate measurements and does take the strain but using silicone as another comment said may help too. Horrible job and plaster on finger as I write this. Love the video and have subscribed
Yes, I discussed silicone in an earlier comment. I spray the box of hooks when I get them so had forgotten to mention that in my video. It certainly is a horrible job but couldn't get on with the Jet Pinner. I always seem to revert to don't things by hand 😁.... we're a glutton for punishment aren't we?
I'd be tempted to grab it with a needle nose plier to get more force and leverage.
Hi there. Yes that is an option but you need to feel your way carefully between the layers of fabric and buckram to ensure the pin doesn't poke through to the front and also weaves back through the layers and I find that using pliers, or any other device fur that matter, stops you being able to feel your way properly.

Hi there. I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Once buckram has been stitched and creased into pleats it's almost impossible to stop it folding in the same places so I would suggest one of two options;
1. Add new buckram and re-pleat the headings to fit your window.
2. Replace with pencil pleat tape like you suggest. A nice, more tailored, option is to use deep 6" tape which looks more similar to pinch pleats.

@@WindmillCurtainRoom Hello and thank you very much for the good advice. I think I'll use your 2nd suggestion. I think pencil pleats just don't have that "grandezza". I will sew a sample on another fabric first. And watch some more of your videos as soon as I get on with the sewing. That creates trust in me.
