Having recently returned from doing the Kerry Way and the northern half of the Wicklow Way (largely inspired by this channel!) my advice is to definitely bring midge spray. Clouds of them will come out of nowhere and swarm around your tent as soon as you're done setting up. In retrospect, I would consider doing the Kerry Way entirely door-to-door and leave the camping equipment at home. There are enough good quality and affordable hostels spaced along the trail, and I found quality camping spots difficult to find (so many areas fenced-off, or boggy and lumpy, or too near private property). Dromid Hostel, Traveler's Rest, and Failte Hostel in Kenmare were all great and less than $40.
Yes, we really should mention Midge spray more often! From now until September they're particularly strong. We only found Dromid Hostel last year (2023) and it's such a fantastic spot, have already been back there again! Hope you enjoyed the two trails ☺ - Ellie
Beautiful scenery, thank you for putting this together, we're getting ready to hike Kerry Way next year. The one thing we would love to see more of in the videos is some more footage of the towns / villages. This gives us an idea of what to expect along the way and we love those quaint country villages. Thanks for your work
Thanks for the nice comment - and thanks for the feedback! We’re getting bc better at filming in villages and towns, just used to feel very awkward! 😅☺️
Hi Guys Great Video and very helpful. I am now to start my planning to do this too Pt 1 looks GREAT This Video looks challenging as I've never done such hikes or walks .. what time of year did you do this ?? And any advice is welcome. Thanks for sharing
Hi Realy enjoying your videos . We visit Ireland two or three times a years we have family there .Can you tell me the nearest walk near Ennis in Clare and how can I find out info on walks In Ireland Des Rynne
15:36 Entering the gates of hell. I feel with you. I never was so disappointet than in front of this sign with the view to the right: one... more... mountain. After climbing the whole long day though rain and mist and the clock is ticking.... I never was that wet in my whole life. But you had definitely the better weather and the better view than me in may same year.
Alo Alo hope yee managed to take some time to visit Valentia, a must from Cahersiveen, oh ya I think it took me 9.5hours to do the section to Waterville enjoy guys:)
I’m not really sure - normally I track everything we spend but I did a really bad job that trail. Because we stayed in so many hostels on that trail, etc. I think it was €450 for the two of us. Normally for 8 days we’d try and spend a maximum €320 for the two of us, so this was quite a splurge!

Stunning walk Ellie and Carl. Pity that most of the days were cloudy and misty. Another wonderful adventure. Thank you for sharing, cheers ~ Joseph

Hi Des!
The closest is the Mid Clare Way, however it’s not a great trail. The East Clare Way is a little further away but a much nicer trail! ☺️

We didn’t make it to Valentia this time, but it’s on the list of places to return to! (Admittedly this list is starting to get very very long 😅)
6:41 the building looked a bit germanesque to me rather than indian but I prefer your story!
Do you recall how much you spent on the whole thru hike of the Kerry way?
