I remember just picking up this album on a whim back in the summer of 89, what a masterpiece. One of the best complete albums from start to finish ever. Some years later I grabbed a copy on cd to keep sealed in my collection of works I dont ever want to lose.
Super vrai ton commentaire alors svp mets en ligne sur you tube l'album complet que j'avais mais malheureusement perdu suite a des demenagements merci d'avance
I saw these guys in Dallas right after this album was released. I was standing about as close to them as those young girls dancing in the video. I wonder where they are now. It was a great feeling to hear this song live. My Father was born in Cuba so I had that connection.
In the 80s I was first a huge fan of Midnight Oil and then I got into U2 and then Living Colour came along and then Nuclear Valdez the next year. Come to find out it was the same guy who signed both Living Colour and Nuclear Valdez to Epic. I love this beautiful song, so much.
This song will always remind me of when I moved to Florida back in the early eighties. Life was so free and fun back then. Every time that I listen to it, it takes me back to those days. Always loved this song.
There were so many great bands in Miami. I always wish that it became a "scene" like Seattle or LA. I worked for a small indy and was exposed to so many excellent musicians down there
Year was 1993 or 1994. Happened here in Finland, northern Europe. I was in the army, serving far away town. We were having a day off time in the down town with a friend, and went to a local market. On the sales box, there was mixture of cassettes, price one mark (about USD 0.05 I think). We both took one each. My friend chose a cassette by the label, the idea was to pick one with the ugliest and most stupid label. When gettin into the car, this cassette was put on. WHAT AN AMAZING FACES WE GOT!
Lot of people wondering why this band wasn't huge. Because the stars need to align thats why. Just didn't happen and thats the way the music business is. That being said they enjoyed more success by having one hit song than millions before them. Not sure how high this song went but to have a song even chart is a huge success in a worldwide market.
In my opinion, this band IS huge (still). I'm a former drummer of a few bands but backed out when an opportunity to go "big" happened. For me, it was because the greatest part of being a musician is playing to the people who understand and connect but not signing your life and dreams away to big corp labels and managers that can take the soul out of your music away. Therefore, sometimes it's best to keep things on the down low, keep doing what you love to do, and keep your connections close to your heart. It minimizes the risk of losing the reason, soul and passion for what we musicians do. In simple terms. ..no sell outs, stay true, stay pure. I can't speak for the members of this band of course, but this is my reason for not going big time. Besides. ..look how many of you (and me) great people know how great this band is! Nuclear Valdez is still a band. Still playing and hopefully will continue to keep doing their passion -both musically and otherwise. In my opinion, they're extremely knowledgeable in what to do, when and how. One last note: I have yet to encounter a more powerful and soulful song than "Summer" which is brilliantly written to describe in short words what Cuban people had to endure and make life decisions for. This song is telling history of a people. This song is the voice of many. Brilliant composition indeed
i was a senior in high school when this came out...taped the video off SuperStation TBS' Night Tracks one weekend. have always loved it...they should have been far bigger than they were.
Why is there not more music on youtube by this band?! Helluva vocalist. I bought their album when this song came out and loved every song. Thought for sure they'd take off like wildfire.
I've always thought the lead singer's voice was so beautiful, I mean the first time I heard this song I fell deep in love with it. Over 15 years later I finally get to submerge my ears in the melody again. The vocals and lyrics gave me chills! I hunted awhile for this song with a foggy memory I Googled "In the year 1959" along with the chorus but that didn't help me..I finally found it during a 80's lyrics search. They are on Spotify so I can hear the whole album.
They weren’t fun which was important in 1989. Probably a bit ahead of their time. Even R.E.M. had just started getting big, this was still actually “alternative”. If this came out in the mid 90s I think it would have made it big. The melody is incredible.
I don't think I ever missed a gig the Nukes ever played. I was so sad to miss John's benefit, but still keeping up with the guys, best band ever to this day.
You guys are sounding great. We hung out with you all at music studio in Miami long time ago with Keith Morrison. Mike & Keith Oliver, Rebels With A Cause.
Never forgot this band since! I actually bought my pal's cassette in double price, and I still have it. Later got all the albums and couple of cd singles. I'm proud to know that I'm probably the only one in whole country who knows this band. And loving it!
I was hoping to find their song Our New Dawn on You Tube. I guess nobody liked it enough to make one. Sad because it's an incredible song with outstanding lyrics.
I've played with LaMont, a powerful and unique drummer. Can't believe this wasn't a monster hit. Then again, nobody's ever made it out of this town except the Estefan's...
I remember being in 9th grade when this song came out, and I had very strict parents so I was not allowed to go out to see their local shows. LOVE this song and this band. This is definitely one of the most underrated bands. The Miami music scene does in fact suck, when this band didn't make it huge and yet Gloria Estefan (yuck) has sold millions of records. To all the band members' students posting on here, y'all are lucky!!!!
Everything I'm reading says the album I am I came out in 1989. I could swear I remember hearing this song on the radio summer of 1984. Am I just remembering the dates wrong?
Daniel Carson yeah sorry ur wrong. I was in a record store in L.A. and heard them for the first time in the summer of 1989, bought the cassette, it wasn't even on the radio in 89 unless u lived on the west coast. I'm from Chicago and I never heard them on the radio in the midwest. Truly a west coast thing. Note: and a Florida thing.
+Daniel Carson I never heard this guys on the radio in Miami, I only saw this particular video once in MTV Latino and that is it. It was definitely late 80's early 90's, so 89 seems correct. Never in 84, that is impossible.
I REMEMBER WHEN, AND WHERE I GET THIS ALBUM VERY LONG TIME AGO!!!! I GET AT THE PAWN SHOP,.,.,. I STILL GOT THE ALBUM,.,.,. I SAW N.V. IN A TV SHOW,.,. I KNOW WHY THEY CALL THEIR BAND NUCLEAR VALDEZ,.,.,.,.,
Saw them in a small club called TT the Bears in Cambridge, MA on this tour. I was huge into Metal and Heavy music when I saw this video on MTV back when MTV played cool music videos. They were amazing live and I really love this record to this day. Didn't like the follow up record as much but I wish they'd kept going because I feel like this was just the tip of the iceberg as far as what they were capable of musically.
Angel I saw you guys way before any record came out in north Miami, and Hollywood / Fort Lauderdale.ian Diaz and Lamont the drummer. Nice young kids. The last I heard Angel is they made another go at it before the pandemic, would love to hear those kids again.
If you didn't run to the pool table, and then run to the brick wall, and smash your beer bottle on the floor, and put your hand to your forehead, did you even?!
Lol. btw one of these band members is now a teacher with a family and glasses. the 1 who did the solo. Living in miami. I am one of his students. Middle School.
Fro ❤. This band… You should have made it big. So underrated and overlooked. Know that you have forever fans.
This is a PAINFULLY overlooked band... always wished more success for them, great writing, great songs and great energy!
I couldn't agree more. Spectacular debut. Great songwriters.
I remember just picking up this album on a whim back in the summer of 89, what a masterpiece. One of the best complete albums from start to finish ever. Some years later I grabbed a copy on cd to keep sealed in my collection of works I dont ever want to lose.

Yep
Hellyeah!
It is criminal this band was not huge ...great music

Love the Mavericks and Forget The Name and Coral Gables and The Goods, but this is the GREATEST band Miami ever produced!!
There were so many great bands in Miami. I always wish that it became a "scene" like Seattle or LA. I worked for a small indy and was exposed to so many excellent musicians down there
This band was awesome! I wish they went further. Back then I really loved the song.
The guitarist was my language art teacher in high school! Best man i've ever met! This band & song is raw. (:
Year was 1993 or 1994. Happened here in Finland, northern Europe. I was in the army, serving far away town. We were having a day off time in the down town with a friend, and went to a local market. Do you know what this song means?
The album was great, the cover art hurt the album imo.. It didn't help it for sure, lol
Their music is extraordinarily relevant and timeless... Like Dylan
It's all about the memories that go hand in hand with this incredibly beautiful music.
What High School
I fell in love with this song back in the day, and its dark beauty still holds up today.

Worked at Musicland in NJ back when this came out and I played the absolute sh*t out of this CD. Still have that promo copy.
