A resistance free rig is essential when targeting pike. A ledgered dead bait using drop indicators has virtually no resistance with maximum bite indication.
In this AD Quickbite, we will be explaining what each component is and how they work together to create this resistance free-running ledger rig.

Great online shop, Angling Direct. The quality and usefulness of these instructional videos is very high quality.
Many thanks
Thank you Jimmy.
I had a Shimano 8000RE reel I bought online delivered yesterday it's spotless looks brand new,two spools one silver one black both packed with mono{although i'll remove it for braid} and in a nice reel case £65 plus £5.50 delivery what a bargain.Finding an old RE 8000 was a task in itself but in one that's so perfect was a result.
Great video! Just to be clear: This setup can be used with spinning reels that do NOT have a baitrunner function?
*These things are awesome **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s very loud when they go off and I could hear it easily from 20 yards away from my pole. Also very sensitive that even a bluegill will trip it. But one of the alarms wasn't working, made a quiet click and a flash of the LED and it was it. Was fine since I'm only allow 2 poles in the state I live in. High quality and already came with batteries.*
You didn’t turn your alarm on? That was it lol
Thanks lads
Our pleasure!
What bite alarms are best for pike fishing ?
Hi J Kaleb, Delkim alarms are best used with the drop off indicators as they use a vibration sensor rather than a roller wheel so offer much better sensitivity.
@@AnglingDirectTV thank you 🙂
What type of braid is it you are using at 60lb??
Hi Stephen, Phil was using Daiwa J braid in 58lb breaking strain.
@@AnglingDirectTV thanks.
I’m new to pike fishing and still not getting the benefit of the drop off? The bite alarm tells you everything doesn’t it?
Using a drop off indicator offers perfect bite indication with no resistance. Sometimes pike will drop baits if they feel any resistance.
I can’t help feeling that pike fishing is going to suffer the same influx of noddies carp have done, big difference is carp can survive it, pike won’t!.
You wouldn’t need the drop off indicators with electronic bite alarms using that type of ledger rig. They are good for visuals but not really needed.
Why did you have the bail arm open??
Hi Anonymous, pike will often drop the bait if they feel any resistance. Once they pick up the bait and the line/braid un-clips from the drop off there is no resistance.
Fair do's, that makes sense now, cheers
