    Loved this game...playing dual players.....The further you got..the more elaberate the objects and asteroids got...And so very colourful...a real classic for me.

    Used to play this at a convenient store called Fina in San Antonio Tx on West Ave back in the '80's. Never seen anyone as good as you play the game. This is one of those 'Quarter Eating' Games.

    Wow, flash back to 15, my best friend and I used to play this at a pizza place endlessly. Mescaline helped, we had ten high scores the entire time it was there. I am not sure but I believe we got it to the highest level a couple of times. Both connected and separated, we did better separated. Had a blast through those years.

    Atari was King of video games back in the 70's and early 80's. They made some awesome arcade games, and also had success with the Atari 2600. Video games today are dominated by Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. I grew up playing mostly NES and SNES, and had some brief experiences with the Atari 2600. But today as an adult and collector, I became very interested in Atari's history, games, and artwork.

    The game should've been titled:
    "Astroids 3"

    I wasn't fortune enough to grow up in the '80s (born in 99 lol) but I played this game, along with a ton of other classics, at a retro arcade and loved it. So much fun. I look forward to playing it again. Great video.

    Awesome to see, this was my fav game in the day and I got pretty good at it, It never caught on with the other kids, as a result it was most the time always open to play where there were lines waiting to play at other machines.

      I actually was working in a video game arcade when this came out. It was one of my favorite games, too.

    Blast from the past. This was actually the very first arcade game I ever played.
    Last week I bought the Arcade1Up Tempest cabinet, with this game included. I mostly buy these cabinets because of the nostalgia, however this one actually is a lot of fun! I bought the cabinet for Tempest and Centipede, but I’ve surprised myself by mostly playing Space Duel.

    Beautiful game. I love how the manned enemy craft are indistinct globs of energy.

    I remember dropping acid as a youngster in the '80s and seeing this game and just being blown away. Very psychedelic

    If mankind ever does go to space to blow up a bunch of geometric shapes, it needs to be on two ships that are tethered together

    Space Duel was my joint top game ever along side Gravitar - all fingers, thumbs and no joy stick - Brilliant. preferred the tethered ships as apposed to single, regularly hitting over 300,000 before I too had to finish my 1 hour lunch break. years later got both games on an Xbox variety pack - but could I play them using the console controller - no chance, totally useless, gave up - the good old days are just a blurred memory now, oh well.

    Love Space Duel...and when you see it on a K6100 you really even more see the beauty of this game.....really beautiful colors. It's really striking seeing the difference between this and the real thing...the emulation is a little off(the sounds too, some of the sounds are completely different)..but all in all very cool video, thanks for posting it.

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112  3 роки тому +3

      Yes the emulator can't quite capture the genuine vector feeling. But AAE did pretty good job on that. Have you seen that emulator?

    • @youvsyou945
      @youvsyou945 3 роки тому +2

      @@detonator2112 I sure haven't(seen that emulator)....I have a Space Duel arcade machine in my collection...yes, no comparison to the real deal with the Vector monitor...but the sounds are way off too. The shield sound for example, on the machine it is a PWM modulated pulse wave sound...in this emulator here it's just distortion...the thrust sound is completely different as well. Some of the sounds are pretty close(the extra man sound is pretty good as it has that random click when it goes on/off like the real machine). Explosions sound is pretty good....Either way though, the gameplay looks pretty cool here and you're really good player(your shield doesn't seem to be draining though;) Again, thanks for posting the video and showing love to this beautiful classic.

      @@youvsyou945 Thanks. I played the arcade machine a LOT in my youth. This has been played with easy settings. With default dips I was able to score 268.000. But I was a 12-year old kid with much better reflexes. Check out my Gravitar and BattleZone vids as well. Loved all those vector games and it'd be great to see them in the flesh again. But I live in Finland and we don't really have them much around anymore. Cheers.

    Probably played this more than any others, though Asteroids and Dragon's Lair were also biggies. It'd be easy though to go into crazy spins.

  • @UltimateThanos
    @UltimateThanos 6 років тому +3

    So it's basically Asteroids but with two spaceships tethered together? That not exactly a "duel". It's more like every other escaped convict movie.

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112  6 років тому +2

      Much better game than Asteroids (in my opinion).

      Lycan Seijin it's because you watched the video when he was playing on one player mode... What made this game cool, and where the game gets its name from, is the two player mode. When each player controls their own ship but you guys are linked or almost handcuffed together. Back in the day this game was really cool and whoever posted this video is the absolute king of this game. I've never seen such a good score.

      @SamMcNear 10 років тому +3

      detonator2112 Cool, Twin Galaxy doesn't have a space duel tethered World Record up on there site. I wish they would put it up because Tethered is the best way to play space duel. your score would be in the top ten! They only have single ship single player. World records are being made on other settings at venues but twin galaxy/ Guinness don't recognize them.

      There's a decent high score competition going on and you can actually redefine the keys just like on MAME. You can even use the mouse on games like Marble Madness. Check it out.

    There was an arcade game in the 80s, which I thought was Black Widow, and in between levels a woman would appear. I remember that she would wink at you and do other things. She was sort of Gothic and a bit creepy. Does anyone know what game this was?

    • @detonator2112
