Great video! My Ogham studies suggests that Huath in Irish refers to wounding or piercing, which is perhaps to do with the draining effect of fear. But as a boundary to the otherworld, we must overcome our fear like Frank Herbert says: 'fear is the mind killer, the little death' and reap the rewards of perception. Thank you for your words.
Yeah you might be onto something there. Also, maybe on a more practical level, the prick of a thorn often leading to infection, and then quite possibly a mysterious death (by fairy) must have led to quite a lot of fear around that little piercing. Great comment. Cheers

What an excellent discourse. It's May so I'm planning to gently prune it and will make it a cornerstone to my front yard garden. Can't wait for this year's berry harvest.

The Glastonbury Hawthorne still lives in a roundabout sort of way. Years ago a cutting was taken, and that grew into another Hawthorne in the Abby grounds.
My nana who lived with us and being from the Hebrides, we grew up learning the old ways and folklore, many a story and particularly warnings, as we did live in the countryside where many elementals roamed. the huge corporations not taking heed, and working against nature, will meet their end......I believe this has already begun :-) Only just come across your channel, have subscribed xx

I love going in the ancient woods, while in there I look for interesting sticks laid about especially gnarly old oak, I also travel through trying. Not to damage a blade of grass, I feel like the woodland is watching that I’m on my best behavior.
Thank you Story Crow for your most awesome story telling. I love the Month of May (my birthday) Goddess Maia (whom the Month of May is named) I have crowned my Greek Ancestors and LOVE their stories. Goddess Maia is the Grandmother of Magic Through the heat of her hand Maia, the Greek Goddess of spring, brings life back to the earth after a long, cold winter. She warms the heart, adds color to the soul, and reminds us of the most magical moments that are all around us. Goddess Maia is also known as The Oracle. Connected to Trees and Doves. Our Ancestors are AWESOME. The May Tree Good Folk Story was interesting! Thank you for your video. I will check out more now, with a hot cup of tea!
Love this video. The Hawthorn is one of my favourite trees and for some reason I actually like the smell! I also have a great love for the Rowan, Willow and Silver Birch. Thanks for a great video. I love your down to earth style ❤
Greetings from Pembrokeshire! I've just found your channel. The tree's brought me here. Your content is fascinating and your delivery is very engaging. Im probably going to have to watch all your videos now. 😊
I love hawthorn tree I love there sweet smell and their hardiness also it is well known for its medicinal properties health food shops usually Cary hawthorn berries and the tincture for treating high blood pressure and heart problems
I have for many years slept beneath a Hawthorn branch. It is suspended over my bed. From time to time I replace it with another chosen branch. I do feel it has a protective spirit. Yes its blossom stinks as it fades. I was working in my garden near my Hawthorn hedge when suddenly, I was overcome with fear! it was almost dark. I flew inside and gathered my tools up in the morning! I was not scared of the encroaching dark.
Enjoyed the vid,was out with the dog early mornings last weekend over some lovely rolling pastures by where I live. Not a soul around, the sun coming up ,the lush grass full of dew and the air heavy with the smell of may flower....perfect. first of your content I've seen, I'll be having a look at the rest. Keep up the good work mate!
Brilliant video, really enjoyed all of that. The smell, the death, sex, the magic of childhood years, the Lore, a bit of Glastonbury, the cutting of legs, the mushroom trip…excellent
Thank you for the recommendation on herbologist, its good to know where to go for more information if i can stomach the symptoms that pop up when I consider the surroundings.
I live rural Midlands so much hawthorn hedgerow can't say I've seen a lonely one around here . Got to be somewhere (I've never looked tbh. I can't go from memory anymore it betrays me from head trauma.
Thanks for this Drawn to this magi tree too I've sketched many images of hawthorn trees Visited Anglesey years ago, went too lots of bronze age sites, Trefignath being one of them I kept being drawn back, on my last visit there I made a fire from hawthorn that grew there My house also connected to two streets, hawthorn and pennine 🙂
Too good to watch on the phone, enjoyed it on the telly. Absolute tonic after a shit day at work. Really enjoy your style of bouncing along around the subject fits in with the way my mind works. Will you be touring at all?🐐🐐🐐❤
From the way you sitting there on barefoot showing how your bllood communicate with the tree in love and respect. Do you grow more Hawthorn trees there aw?
After a turbulent day yesterday, I was pleased this morning to see this video. A nice relaxing way to start the day. My thoughts towards the Glastonbury thorn tree is that it paralyses the Abbey, a superinposism of the then new Christian beliefs over the old regional beliefs of Avalon. Similar to building churches on land that was already believed to be sacred.
Hawthorn brush grows in the fencelines of many farm properties in the Willamette Valley of Western Oregon (where I am a land surveyor). This is a Bavarian community. The spikes are very strong and very sharp. They are usually about 1 to 2 inches in length. I wonder if they were planted there on purpose.
Just added a longer reply below. Also in Eugene. Previous home owner was eclectic English woman, guessing she planted my hawthorn on purpose, only one here, no hedgeline. Simply love Eugene.
@@scottwillis5181 I've spent a lot of time in Eugene and Springfield. Eugene and Seattle are the 2 Emerald Cities in the Emerald Empire. The Enchanted Forest is on the east side of I-5. The Sherwood Forest is on the west side of I-5.

I love this video. I've recently been curious about hawthorns. With regard to the smell of death, I wonder if it has anything to do with fairies being the dead themselves and in may time, these "portals" to the underworld open up, emitting the stench of the dead within?
You just reminded me of a time, decades ago, when I was standing on the ramparts of Oswestry hill fort. It suddenly occurred to me that the tops of the multi ring ditches would have been planted with a laid hedge of thorn.. I had never heard of it being done but it seemed so obvious , especially given the poisonous reaction to being pricked by blackthorn.
Yup. Had the same realisation myself some years ago. And in this part of the world the chalk outer facing walls being brilliant white - they must have been quite impressive structures
Weird how things happen. Was looking into different woods to make hiking sticks from and where I live there are a lot of Hawthorns in hedge rows so was thinking of asking land owners if I can take some fallen limbs or take a cutting in the winter… think il steer clear of that now and look for some Hazel instead. Great videos and stories 🌳
I have a large hawthorn tree in my garden, I could swear my cat could see elementals living at the base , she would spend hours crouched down watching and would meow like mad until I followed her down and would meow like Mad at me as if to say can't you see them !, RIP Benni 😢
Sounds about right. I had a black cat called Ben when I was young. He had one eye and could see things I couldn’t. He was hit by a tandem bike and killed. Not even joking. The irony.
The Romans attacked the Druids in their groves on Angelsey due to the power they had. Even they recognised the power of trees. I have a wand made from Hawthorn. But I am looking for the best tree to make a staff from, any suggestions 🤔 Bright Blessings
It talks of a wand made from Hawethorn in Harry potter, , a staff made from an Oak tree , but it's best to take one that has fallen , I got this info from a channelling, it's the magic of Merlin,,
@@sylviabriggs4087 Thanks for your reply - the Hawthorn tree had been buffeted by the wind in a small storm, I had been wild-camping nearby and noticed the stick in my path as I left as if placed there, it wasn't there on my way in to the thicket. to find an Oak tree that will offer me a staff, I think i may need to travel a bit. BB
Oak is a solid choice for a staff. Symbolically and practically. Also ash for simplicity. Good and straight. Or hazel for similar reasons. More of a switch though, that. Or blackthorn, but then that’s more of a club usually 😂
This isnt really Celtic at all but theres a book about elemental beings called The School of Elemental beings and it goes into detail about the different beings that form the trees and flowers. Thank you for your work as always, been a while since i watched your videos so going to catch up 🌷
Yes it’s historically more in Celtic language areas, but it’s also taken root in Wiltshire a lot in recent decades, a very sacred landscape so perhaps unsurprising
QUESTION: Hello. I live in Ohio USA and When I was a child we had a tree in our back yard and I was told it was a crab apple tree? Or some kind of apple tree? It looked like your Hawthorne tree.. Do they have similar blossoms? Could it have been one? Do they grow out here? Just curious.. thank you
Yes crab apple trees can look a bit like hawthorn, squat and gnarly. And the trunks look a bit similar too. Check my apple video, it’s shot under a crab apple. I imagine they could have reached the US yes.
Those that dont know can never understand. I recall early on in my wiccan learning to never harm the Ladys tree, lest one be cursed. Never burn it, nor cut it, for it is sacred. - " ninewoods in the cauldron go, burn them fast, or burn them slow. But if ye burn the Ladys tree, cursed ye shall always be."
I have a beautiful hawthorn in my garden. It sprouted by itaelf whwn i moved here. I always said i brought the fae with me. Looks like they brought their own home with them
@TheStoryCrow The south of the Netherlands is different than the North. And on the very outside of the cities, on the border of farmers' land, you will find them. You'll find them also in certain areas (villages/cities, etc.) to separate the houses from cycle paths and roads and others. So, different view, but the same thing 😉 Some farmers still use the old hedges with Hawthorn, Blackthorn and more, as well as in my neighbourhood around the houses.

Get some Honey, Turmeric/Black pepper and cinnamon down you, and you can throw Aunties Bollox away. 1/4 of a teaspoon of Turmeric, A pinch of ground black pepper, 1/8th teaspoon of cinnamon and mix with as much honey as you can fit on a dessert/cereal spoon. Once thoroughly mixed, take right off the spoon. Tastes like old-fashioned Victorian sweets, do this once a day for 3 to 5 days and your ailment will be gone. Use the same preparation for hay fever instead of shitty anti histamines. Natural anti inflammatories.
I planted a mixed native hedge a few years ago and I have just trimmed some hawthorn and blackthorn, guess I picked the right month. My mother always told me that bringing May blossom is very unlucky to bring in doors. I can vouch that both are pretty fierce thorn wise…ouch.
Good story, plant also has soul , has energy. Plant also learnt to be human that is why there was half human half plant tgen they reach human shape like us and plant is older than human. Plant also absird memmory if earth so sitting or praying on tree can hear their video tgey record along many civilizations. So Hawthorn should be evoluted to be human there.
I remember when those two Buddhist statues were blown up. I was outraged and still am. All good to a any Buddhist, but the statues were also art, history, and culture and all of that was destroyed, because it did reside in the statues. I’m not sure about gentle acceptance of these violent acts. I don’t think humanity is ready to live without warriors. Surely if we let infected minds take their own course unchallenged, they will be running things. Sex and death both are eighth house matters in astrology. I’ve read that it has to do with the energy exchange and transformation. It also covers inheritance and taxes-money being the representation of energy exchange. The black pool ball is number 8 and you know the saying “behind the 8 ball.” Didn’t know about a Hawthorne tree. Interesting one of the things about it is bad ju-ju for those who mess with it. Go faeries! Thank you for sharing the knowledge. Your videos are like a reviving breath for my soul. Looks like you have an extra dog running around.

Appreciate that, thank you 🙏
The Glastonbury Hawthorne still lives in a roundabout sort of way. Years ago a cutting was taken, and that grew into another Hawthorne in the Abby grounds.
Oh I hope they protect that tree. Some crazy conservative Christian of America will hunt it down. Unfortunately, I'm serious.
Half way through this I went and picked leaves and flowers. I did ask and thanked them. Then I shall make tinctures and tea. Lovely. ❤️
These videos you do of the trees are your best. It combines everything you know about biology and mythology. its just great.
I’ll be screwed when I run out of trees then 😂
Thanks for your words 🙏☺️

My nana who lived with us and being from the Hebrides, we grew up learning the old ways and folklore, many a story and particularly warnings, as we did live in the countryside where many elementals roamed. the huge corporations not taking heed, and working against nature, will meet their end......I believe this has already begun :-) Only just come across your channel, have subscribed xx
Sounds like she installed a lot of old wisdom in you 😉
I love Danus Irish Herb Garden…been subscribed for a few years….Terri and Lol are brilliant
I love the wee Fae Folk lol. We planted a Bay Laurel Hedge …bcs the Fences kept breaking…we’ve grown a Rowan Tree and a Silver Birch Tree…and we live at the edge of The Bluebell Woods…I love May our first born Son born in May…7th May ☺️ Love this Thankyou. ❤️🌻☘️
That’s a great story. You also raised my interest in comparing our eastern U. S. Hawthorn to your English Hawthorn
Thank you so much for mentioning that poly/cotton is plastic. So many people think all fabric is biodegradable. 😢 Offerings with plastic and glitter ARE litter. I love your videos - you have such lovely energy. Thank you!
Thank you, and I fully agree. Silly glitter 😅😉🙏
I love going in the ancient woods, while in there I look for interesting sticks laid about especially gnarly old oak, I also travel through trying. Not to damage a blade of grass, I feel like the woodland is watching that I’m on my best behavior.
Thank you Story Crow for your most awesome story telling. I love the Month of May (my birthday)
Goddess Maia (whom the Month of May is named) I have crowned my Greek Ancestors and LOVE their stories. Goddess Maia is the Grandmother of Magic
Through the heat of her hand Maia, the Greek Goddess of spring, brings life back to the earth after a long, cold winter.

Really enjoyed your story telling , thanks ❤
My Romany Granndma used to call it "Mother-Die". I once tried to bring in a sprig and caused hysterics.
This channel popped up!! I am for it!!
Glad to hear it my man! 🙏✨☺️
Enjoyed the vid,was out with the dog early mornings last weekend over some lovely rolling pastures by where I live.
Thanks for this
Drawn to this magi tree too
I've sketched many images of hawthorn trees
Visited Anglesey years ago, went too lots of bronze age sites,
Trefignath being one of them
I kept being drawn back, on my last visit there I made a fire from hawthorn that grew there
My house also connected to two streets, hawthorn and pennine 🙂

Should organise another tour really …
From the way you sitting there on barefoot showing how your bllood communicate with the tree in love and respect. Do you grow more Hawthorn trees there aw?
Hawthorn blossom has long been one of my favourite fragrances… bit worrying, I must be a wrongun. Yet another gripping and stirring video, thank you
We will all interpretate a fragrance differently
Nah, I think a lot of it is subjective. I find they start smelling pleasant, and then go on the turn. And that makes me seem like a blossom sniffer.
@@sylviabriggs4087 totally
@@sylviabriggs4087 I was just kidding around but thank you
@@TheStoryCrow A bit like people and dogs. I find each stage rather pleasant if I’m honest.. subjective blossom sniffing as you say. 🌸🧟♂️

Pleased to hear it, thank you and welcome 🙏
After a turbulent day yesterday, I was pleased this morning to see this video. A nice relaxing way to start the day. My thoughts towards the Glastonbury thorn tree is that it paralyses the Abbey, a superinposism of the then new Christian beliefs over the old regional beliefs of Avalon. Similar to building churches on land that was already believed to be sacred.
That’s an interesting perspective, there’s defiantly a lot of layers to that sacred landscape
Definitely AND defiantly
Hawthorn brush grows in the fencelines of many farm properties in the Willamette Valley of Western Oregon (where I am a land surveyor). This is a Bavarian community. The spikes are very strong and very sharp. They are usually about 1 to 2 inches in length. I wonder if they were planted there on purpose.
Ah, that’s interesting. I wonder. 🤔
Ever smelt something funky in the woods? It may be the May Tree... maybe 🤔

I love hawthorn blossom and smell, spring wouldn't be spring without it. Never heard of all these myths I just enjoy the tree.
I love this video. I've recently been curious about hawthorns. With regard to the smell of death, I wonder if it has anything to do with fairies being the dead themselves and in may time, these "portals" to the underworld open up, emitting the stench of the dead within?
I’d definitely say you’re onto something there imo
Thank you for the content and sharing...💚
Thanks for watching my friend 🙏☺️
Thank you. Good information.
Very Interesting enjoyed this.
Oh what a joy you are Earthen Air Elemental ❤
Weird how things happen. Was looking into different woods to make hiking sticks from and where I live there are a lot of Hawthorns in hedge rows so was thinking of asking land owners if I can take some fallen limbs or take a cutting in the winter… think il steer clear of that now and look for some Hazel instead. Great videos and stories 🌳
I have cut hawthorn and as I was looking up to see how it looked a branch fell end on into my eye , I wish I knew this folklore before today.
@@johnwynne-qx6br bet that came keen 🤕… best not to upset the Fae folk lol
Follow the synchronicities! Hazel better choice anyway brother, practically and mystically. Or ash 👍
@@johnwynne-qx6br similar things have happened to me 😂
@TheStoryCrow I was a gardener and customer asked me to lop it back. £60 and I lost the sight in one eye.
The irony.
Old English saying 'Ne'r cast a clout 'til May is out.'
I pay great respect to fairy trees if I see them in the countryside here in Ireland, I do believe that they do hold some magic good and bad .
Glad to hear it Robbie, you guys give good respect to trees over there - and I respect that 🙏
The Romans attacked the Druids in their groves on Angelsey due to the power they had.
@@TheStoryCrow Thanks for your prompt reply. I think Oak. Thanks BB

This isnt really Celtic at all but theres a book about elemental beings called The School of Elemental beings and it goes into detail about the different beings that form the trees and flowers. Thank you for your work as always, been a while since i watched your videos so going to catch up 🌷
Faintly rings a bell 🤔
Great talk. In ireland and Scotland lots of trees have offerings.
Yes it’s historically more in Celtic language areas, but it’s also taken root in Wiltshire a lot in recent decades, a very sacred landscape so perhaps unsurprising
I love hawthorn trees I love there sweet smell and their sturdiness and there medicinal properties
Lovely stories.
QUESTION:
Hello.
Thank You 😊 I will definitely check out the video 👍
Despise those religious extremists. Love the trees, the fairy folk.

Here in the Netherlands we still have hedges! Especially around my neighbourhood.
I thought space would be a premium over there!
That’s interesting, I didn’t know that. Thanks for sharing ☺️🙏
Hey I saw you at Buster Beltane this year!
No way! Saw us in the little Woodbury round house doing a bit of Celtic myth? You guys were a nice crowd ☺️🙏

I planted a mixed native hedge a few years ago and I have just trimmed some hawthorn and blackthorn, guess I picked the right month. My mother always told me that bringing May blossom is very unlucky to bring in doors. I can vouch that both are pretty fierce thorn wise…ouch.
Yup 🖐️ 🩸😂
Come and see the living hedges that are talus in Brittany. There's still some ancient bocage landscape left, it's dwindling though.
Ah, good, I’m visiting in the van this year, thank you!
Magical 🙏🙏🙏thankyou ❤
Good story, plant also has soul , has energy. Plant also learnt to be human that is why there was half human half plant tgen they reach human shape like us and plant is older than human. Plant also absird memmory if earth so sitting or praying on tree can hear their video tgey record along many civilizations. So Hawthorn should be evoluted to be human there.

Also known as Quickthorn because of it's readiness to root from cuttings?
Ah yes, it is called quick thorn isn’t it. Possibly because how fast it grows too
I remember when those two Buddhist statues were blown up.
The black pool ball is number 8 and you know the saying “behind the 8 ball.”

After watching this and another video on another channel about house spirits, I’m now wondering if that little scary looking childhood friend I mentioned in a previous comment on another video of yours, wasn’t something to do with my very dark grandfather afterall, but a Brownie or some other kind of benevolent house spirit. I’m thinking perhaps I owe him a proper apology as I demanded he leave when I was a teen. I was quite rude too.
Don't worry about that, those spirits are very wise , I did not see your other comment but it seems he came in too strong for your frequency,
Many wee thanks...
