Hi Howard, I've been learning from your video and with the information from that and my instructor I passed my part 2 yesterday with 2 minors. I'll be using your videos to help me through my part 3. 🙂
Fantastic video and so helpful. I am an emergency response driver (8 years), and am about to embark on ADI training to become an instructor for LGV and ERDT. These videos are so very helpful, thank you. Just back from a commentary drive that I am practising on my own. If you have any more tips, advice and videos, I would very much welcome them. Thank you again
excellent video. I passed my Part 2 the other day. 3 faults. 1 for rubbish parallel park. other 2 faults were for indicating late when leaving motorway. Examiner told me I have to start indicating after passing a countdown marker. I think I indicated well after all the markers vanished. she was very friendly and helpful. She gave big hints with her body language. whenever I moved into the right lane to avoid parked cars, she would sharply turn her head to face me, as soon as I passed those parked cars :) so that was my cue to get back into the left lane.
@@disobeytoday4685 seeing that your comment was 2 months ago I’m guessing that you’re on stage 2? I just past stage 2 yesterday and the advice I would give is to drive around the area that you are testing in regularly. I was basically driving an hour mock test every day a week leading up to the test. Was able to pass with only one minor as I was accustomed to the road. Good luck.
When parked on the left, left mirror and blind spot are optional, but recommended. Likewise, when parked on the right, right mirror and blind spot are optional, but recommended.
Thanks Howard, very useful. I am practicing for my part 2 currently. What was the app called that you were using? I’ve tried searching for it but can’t find it. Also, are there any good apps to obtain official test routes? Cheers
Very good point. A fault will not be recorded for not doing a 6 point check, centre, right and right blind spot is ok. It is of course best practice to complete a full all round check as part of the POM routine. I should have commented on this during the video. Thank you.
@@How-2-drive I believe the 6 point check is just a good thing to do, cos then you won't forget it if you happen to do a emergency stop in the middle of the road - which would be recorded right? Also I notice on roundabouts when he leaves he always signals before left mirror check - if there happened to be a cyclist 'magically' appearing there, they could react negatively!
Hi Howard, not sure if it's due to camera angle we are seeing, or whether misunderstanding of requirements / over analysing from myself? I note on the DL 25 you only have 2 mirror faults marked down, yet i noted 8 (as a minimum) from leaving test centre to the 3rd roundabout! My explanation for this is based on understanding that MS.... accelerate, brake, gear, lane, etc. etc. Or is that no longer the expectation? Just trying to understand the current requirements. Again realise this is an older video but hoping either yourself or others can advise.
Hi, not sure I understand what fault you have spotted.. system for DVSA is MSPSL, but of course this can be adapted to suit circumstances.. so for example you could check mirrors, slow down, position, then signal let’s say if there was a parked car or another junction close by. If you elaborate on the fault you have identified then I can advise if worthy of a driver fault. Sometimes the examiner will spot slight inconsistencies with system and note as not worthy.
@@How-2-drive Hi, so my apologies I should have maybe clarified my MS.. was supposed to reflect MSPSL, at between pulling away at video time 7:16 at 7:22 you say "ahead at the roundabout" gear change no mirrors and accelerating and braking for roundabouts and gear change this is repeated a further 9 times up to 9:03. I also understand extremely easy to be an armchair critic (definitely not my intention) just need some clarification as to what the current expectation is for mirrors? As my part 2 coming up (previously worked as HGV assessor and process was a 10-13 sec rinse wash repeat method of mirrors, basically didn't itch your nose without a mirror) So wondering what if anything has changed?. I realise if the rest of the drive is generally good examiner can make allowances etc. I would have thought unless I'm missing the point that many missed mirrors in a short space of time would have gone down as a serious. Simply due to the fact it was a Part 2 and therefore Advanced test.
@@How-2-drive so on 37:40 there is a cyclist in front of car . If driver would have waited before white line bcz he feels that junction is not clear bcz of cyclist. Is this marked as un due hesitation?
hi, just a quick question. in this part you say center mirror, signal, then mirror: ua-cam.com/video/lY_5TPiAsd8/v-deo.html however, over here you said to mirror then signal... ua-cam.com/video/lY_5TPiAsd8/v-deo.html i'm sure the mirror then signal in correct but the first link says otherwise or is it because the situation is different?
At the point of your first link he was saying that what the trainee did was centre mirror, signal, then right mirror. This was indicated as being a fault, so NOT what should have been done. There's no conflict here, in both cases he says the correct thing to do is to check mirrors first then signal.
In all fairness and please don't get me wrong, I thought the poor guy was all over the place during the whole time of the test but when I saw his results in the end, I couldn't believe it, he got marked "only" 12 when probably just 12 were his mirrors checking errors on their own. He hardly checked the correct mirrors at all almost every time he signaled, let alone the rest including the reverse bay parking where I'm sure you are not meant to go forward at any time but just in reverse and some dry steering in there too seemed like, unless i am missing something. In the end, despite the 12, the test stated "PASS", I take that is a genuine mistake as I'm sure we are only allowed 6. Could you please explain if I'm seeing wrong, and please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to teach anything to anybody, nevertheless criticize the driver, but my test is coming up next week and I wanna make sure I'm seeing things right.
You are correct. I believe the form shown was generated by software set in learner rather than ADI mode, hence why 15 or less was considered a pass, whereas it should be 6 or less, as you said.
Dangerous fault, L signal to exit roundabouts was repeatedly and noticeably late by 1-2 seconds at least. Effectively NO PRIOR indication of intention of turning L given. signal should go on IMMEDIATELY at PREVIOUS exit. Seemingly an ingrained bad habit as this happened at every roundabout . (A Part 2 passed trainee).
It depends;in a very special moments if the car is under a nice and smooth control could be fine;if it be done couple of times might get minor if being done continously then might be serious fault!
I really think that the guy who did the drive wasn’t allowed to re-cap his own performance. He looked really frustrated and really needed time to analyse what his strengths and weaknesses were with the coach before exiting the vehicle and confirming using the video when he got home . Not watch the video and no communication from his coach.

Did you take any lessons or no ?
Firstly get a good night's sleep before the tests... 💤
Jesus I had the world’s worst sleep the night prior my test. Luckily for me I drove well enough for a pass but the lack of sleep didn’t help.
Just curious, did the guy in this mock take the actual part 2 and did he pass??
Whenever he pulls out after you ask him to pull over he doesn't do his 6 point check, I only see center, right and right blind spot.

It was one serious fault when he parked on double yellow line close to a junction
It frustrates me when learners or PDI’s say they will check that tyres have 1.6 mm of thread on them 😤
Yes, the police change theirs at 2.5mm, as tests show a 30% increase in stopping distance at this amount of wear.
