Aw just love the idea of academic families so much! Hopefully I bump into one of you in the new semester so I can say hello and possibly become one of your ‘children’ this year (omg it’s so weird to say that haha!!) Hope you both are well and keeping safe💕 x
the parts about diversity and backgrounds really intrigued me and saddened me. As a black female attending a state school, from a relatively average background with a single mother I do feel like I’ll stick out negatively at St Andrews, and the data you’ve shown us has only increased that fear! I don’t want to let that stop me from applying but nobody wants to attend a uni that doesn’t seem to want them there? Interested in whether you guys happen to know whether St Andrews decided to implement the strategy of removing applicants names so subconscious bias doesn’t poison the whole admissions process at St Andrews (the Saint discussed it in an article). I do feel that if that was implemented I’d feel a lot more comfortable in my chances. But thanks for the great video once again guys :)
we would definitely have to check that out with relation to the uni's application team, but i would in fact encourage you to apply (especially if you feel the course is great for you). the way i think about it, the more people apply and are accepted, the quicker we will be able to bridge this gap in diversity. please feel free to reach out over instagram and we can have a more in depth chat about this x kiki
Kiki & Tom I’m so sorry I’ve just seen this! Thank you, I think I’ll have to see. I have been keeping an eye on St Andrews’ Instagram in regard to black lives matter and the entire situation in the US and I have been impressed, but then I go on the St Andrews student Instagram and see all those stories of students who have experienced racism and I’m put right off again! It’s a difficult one, I’m aware that whatever uni I attend there’s a chance ppl have experienced racism and I might, I’m just nervous that at St Andrews that chance is much higher. I’ll come to a decision in the end, and hey I might end up applying, being rejected and in that case the decision would be made for me! Thanks again though :)
Jasmine A hi Jasmine, that’s very fair. Do whatever feels right for you, but please know that there is a warm and loving community here. It is condemnable that racism occurs in the world and that unfortunately also includes StA. but I strongly believe we are making changes year by year and paving the way towards a more diverse student body x kiki
I'm starting this year to do english and film studies. I don't really know much about academic families but I'd love to be Kiki's "child" haha. Hopefully I'll get to meet you guys in the fall!
Starting my phd studies in english this september and these videos help me a lot in terms of getting a sense of St Andrews (I've never been to St Andrews)! Thanks you two x
How do the academic families work? I’m going to St. andrews this year and it’s a bit confusing haha. Do you get matched up by the uni or is it just walk up to people in freshers?
Hey. Obviously we're not 100% sure of the differences between postgraduate and undergraduate social life, however speaking to postgrads they do seem to have a great time! Balls and fashion shows and the union etc are open to everyone, so its not a problem. One of the great things about St Andrews is that it is so small so it means different year groups and ages are friends. Tom :)
I'm hopefully going to apply to St Andrews this year after I get my Higher results. Do you have any advice on how to tailor my personal statement to St Andrews based on inside experience in what they look for. I've looked on the site and I'm good there but, anything else I could add?
Hey, im hopefully entering to St. Andrews starting fall but idk if I will be able to attend freshers. Would I still be able to have an academic family and academic parents ? Also Kiana I would love to be a part of your academic family
I’m an incoming American fresher for IR (like all Americans haha) and psych. I’d love to be part of either of your academic fam if we’re even allowed to go in the fall.
hey i wanted to know how UoStA caters to people from other religions like Muslims in catered dorms; is there an option for halal food Also, is generally buying things from town expensive?
hey! when i was in halls they didn't have the option for halal food (and still don't), but of course all the vegetarian and vegan meals are halal! as for town, i would say tesco is slightly more expensive than other tescos because it's express but morrisons and aldi are both decently priced! hope that helps x kiki

What's it like to be a grad student in St Andrews? Do they have the same social life than undergraduate students?

Thank you for this, really good to get a balanced view :)

Thanks for the info. I'll be starting this year (hopefully) at St Andrews. I'm from the Caribbean. Wouldn't mind being "adopted" 😂.

Is the cathedral Church of Scotland?
Physics_Baris it was destroyed by Henry VIII in the 1520s so it’s just there. It’s not used for services it’s more of a tourist site/cemetery
@@justkiki3091 Ah now I dislike Henry VIII hahaha
