Wow! Sounds like you have an awesome trek. This is a good question because I’ve been pondering the same thing. I currently keep my spare on the roof but I haven’t figured out what to put in the space where the donut goes. I think a tool kit of some kind could be useful or some camping supplies. The only issue is if you have stuff in the main cargo area then it becomes a pain to lift the floor to grab whatever you might need. Let me know if you think of something. I’ve been kicking around some idea but haven’t decided on anything
How do you secure the full spare to the basket? I wanna pull the trigger on it but still on the fence about about securing it and practically like going into low clearance parking structures and such
I’ve been using a ratchet strap so far. It’s simple but it gets the job done. I’ve been trying to find a different solution but haven’t found the perfect thing just yet. I haven’t had any issues with parking decks yet, thank goodness. Luckily the Crosstrek isn’t super tall. Hope that helps

No and that’s why I like it so much. The install was very straightforward. The only thing I needed to do was file a preexisting hole to make it a little bigger so I could fit a bolt through it. I believe this is the video that shows you how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/bubDlBulQh8/v-deo.html

@@EliasDelvasto thanks for the quick reply! Excited to get a crosstrek soon have you had any issues with rubbing? If so what can you do to minimize/prevent that?
Nope! I’ve never had an issue with rubbing. The 215 tire size is small enough so I don’t have any rubbing issues even at the stock ride height. Some owners try to fit 225 or even 235 tires but that’s when you’ll find the rubbing problems.
Thank you excellent video and advice just one thing wondering about the wheel fitment if they're hubcentric, and the offset is making them stick out of it further?? I don't think you mentioned anything about spacers or anything like that
Correct, I don’t have any spacers. If you watch my “New Wheels with All Terrain Tires…” video then I go more in depth on the wheels and tires. Maybe that would be helpful for you? Let me know if it helps or if you still have more questions. I am happy to help how I can
No! I don’t have a lift. I have never had any running either. The tire size is what is important there. The 215 is narrow enough to not have any issues
just got the method 502/toyo open county3 combo! i'm reading around while researchin some mention that the tires aren't so great in rain? thats its very bad? whaat.. how is it it the rain for you? it made me a little worried lol
I got the crossbars from Amazon (amzn.to/3yGntg4) but you can also get them right off of the Subaru website. I did install them myself. Very simple installation!
The Curt Class III from U-Haul is sooo cheap. They will even install it for you. For mud flaps I went with the Rally Armor universal fit from Tire rack. Drilling your own holes is a pain but for $20 it's also a cheap mod.
Hello Elias … question- Does you 2019 have the X-mode ? I have 2017 daily commuter without the x mode unfortunately. Sooo Not sure if I should do the tires and rims. Just wondering what you think. Thank you Karl.
Thanks for the information Elias! Is the Thule Canyon XT roof rack on your Crosstrek the standard length, or did you also instal the extension? I was wondering if the extension would fit, and look good on the Crosstrek.
Mine is standard length. I do not have the extension and I’m actually not sure I’ve seen anyone that has a Crosstrek with the extension. I’d do some measuring to be sure the extended version would fit on the Crosstrek just to be sure. Best of luck!
Why doesn't the donut tire work for you? I assumed that your new tires are should be the same diameter as the stock. Can you use the donut in an emergency?
Good question! Yes the new tires are the same diameter as the stock ones. However it was explained to me that because Subarus have symmetrical all wheel drive, any differences in the tires will mess with the drive train when run for long periods of time. The other problem is that the donut isn’t meant to be driven over 50mph or so. The last issue is that a lot of tire shops will not stock the Toyo tires in this size so if I were to get a flat then it is unlikely that they will be able to replace the tire right away. The full size spare gives me peace of mind especially on long road trips and helps me avoid having to wait a week for a tire to ship to the shop if I ever were in that situation. I hope this helps!
I have a premium trim level. As for the TPMS, I don’t think it is 100 percent needed but the shop that mounted the tires did it for me so it was nice and simple
That’s a good question. I just had the TPMS moved from the old wheels to the new ones. I’m not sure how it works if you run without them. I assume there is a way to disable it but I am not sure since I never did that. I wish you luck though!
I don’t have a lift actually but the rack seems to have had the biggest effect out of anything that I’ve done to the car. The change in tires didn’t even lower the gas mileage as much as the rack. I’d say I’ve lost about 2 or 3 MPGs but that’s a very rough guess
I installed it myself. If you wanted to try it yourself, I thought it was pretty straightforward. The instructions were clear and didn’t require any welding or anything super fancy like that. The only things you need are a file and torque wrench. The hardest part was just lifting it into place. Getting a dealer to do it is nice too though!
I haven’t payed super close attention to MPG with the basket and spare but I’m pretty sure it is 28-30. Makes a difference for sure. Also no, the full spare is solely a spare since I didn’t get it at the same time as the other 4 tires. Probably could have done a 5 tire rotation but wanted to keep it simple
Look so cool actually, I did but roof rack on for a month then I gave up. It’s fine if you drive slow 40-60 mph, but if above 65 mph it’s so noisy and shaky and it drop about 5 mpg, that was just empty roof rack with stock tires.
The pros would probably be that the wheel is lighter than the stock wheel and that with a smaller wheel you can fit a thicker tire. The con is that the thicker tire is heavier (overall weight pretty much balanced out though). I hope that helps
I am going to ask a stupid question. Does your crosstrek handle a lot better off road with new tires and rims? I am looking at buying a crosstrek, currently have an old 4runner with bfg ko all terrain. I am researching the Subaru because it looks like a great buy. I realize it’s not a 4runner, but I get 15 mpg now. Thank you for great vids.
Good question! I put these wheels and tires on the car not too long after getting the car so I hadn’t done a lot of off-roading before the new wheels and tires. However as far as on road handling, I didn’t notice much of a difference. The biggest difference to me was acceleration. Before the Crosstrek I was driving an 02 Tacoma so the handling and overall feel is a world of difference. The Crosstrek might not be as bulletproof as your 4Runner when it comes to off-road but it definitely feels tighter and more agile to drive. The fuel economy is a great bonus too! I wish I had a better answer but I hope it helps anyways.
@@EliasDelvasto thx dude, I don’t want to Offroad as hard and want to travel. The all wheel drive and gas mileage is what I am looking for. You did really good off roading!
I have a stock 2014 CT Premium. I put falkens to match my stock wheels. Same mileage, excellent wear (better than stock geos), same handling. I'm selling it to my son and bought a 2022 Sport.
@@EliasDelvasto i try not to think about it too but when I can't even pass up a Prius on the freeway that kind of scares me lol. I am coming from a 2013 Ford focus se as a daily. I regret not test driving the 2.5 but at the salesman said that it's not even worth it they both drive around the same. I surely doubt that but whatever it is what it is I still have my 2020 STI I guess maybe it can borrow 50 hp from it.
Genuine question possibly looking to get a manual 2017 crosstrek and do something very similar to the wheels and tires but should I expect pre-mature wear on the transmission or would it not make that much of a difference over an extended period of time
That’s a good question and it was one of my big concerns when buying the wheels and tires. Anytime you change a car from its factory condition there is always a chance that it will cause added wear on several components. However, since the wheels/tires are about the same weight as stock (maybe slightly lighter) and the diameter hasn’t changed much then hopefully this will reduce the stress. I can’t say that it doesn’t add any wear but hopefully the extent of it is kept at a minimum based on what we pick. I’m no mechanic but that’s my take on it and I hope it helps.
Thank you so much! I use a Fujifilm XT3 and more recently started using the Eterna color profile in the camera with minor tweaks in post. I use Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. There’s a bigger list of the gear I use in the description. I hope that helps.
@@EliasDelvasto does the XT3 have IBIS? I use a Canon EOS R and a Rokinon 35mm manual cine lens - both doesnt have stabilization. Lots of post production work just to make it usable. This is the beauty of filmmaking - there is no mods because you make your own rig!
None! The 215 size is small enough to not have any issues. If you get into the bigger sizes (225,235) then you might start running into some rubbing issues. Especially the 235s
The links seem to work for me but thank you for bringing it to my attention. Is there anything in particular that you wanted to check out? I can try sending a link in a comment rather than it being in the description
First step is to figure out a way to disable the super-annoying autostop feature. You also have to take your eyes off the road to even turn on/off your heat and AC (poor design).
Lol, there is a button by your left knee that turns it off. You have to take your eyes off of the road to adjust temp controls. Just like has been the case since oh I dunno... decades? God forbid you do it while stopped at a redlight, or in a parking lot, etc. You can only adjust the temp controls while moving. Unwritten Subaru rule.

Did you have a lift?
Thank you excellent video and advice just one thing wondering about the wheel fitment if they're hubcentric, and the offset is making them stick out of it further?? I don't think you mentioned anything about spacers or anything like that
Correct, I don’t have any spacers. If you watch my “New Wheels with All Terrain Tires…” video then I go more in depth on the wheels and tires. Maybe that would be helpful for you? Let me know if it helps or if you still have more questions. I am happy to help how I can
FYI. Nothing us available in your links
Thanks for letting me know. Are the links not working or are they out of stock on Amazon?
@@EliasDelvasto not in stock. I was gonna get the mudflaps
They show up as in stock for me strangely. Thanks for letting me know though and for your support
@@EliasDelvasto Just checked again and the black ones say currently unavailable😔
Do you need to lift the car to install those rims/tires? Any rubbing when turning?
I’ve never had an issue in the rain. Maybe I drive too conservatively in the rain ¯\_(ツ)_/ who knows.
thanks for replying :) CAN'T wait @@EliasDelvasto
Where did you get the cross bars and did you install them yourself?
I got the crossbars from Amazon (amzn.to/3yGntg4) but you can also get them right off of the Subaru website. I did install them myself. Very simple installation!
Where did you get the full size spare wheel?
I got it from Discount Tire. I got it just in time too because they discontinued this particular wheel around the same time I bought the spare
If you change wheels and tires sice It will hit the bumpers?
It won’t hit the bumpers with the tire size that I have. The tires are 215/ 75 r15
The Curt Class III from U-Haul is sooo cheap. They will even install it for you.
For mud flaps I went with the Rally Armor universal fit from Tire rack. Drilling your own holes is a pain but for $20 it's also a cheap mod.
I’m always looking for a deal. Good tips!
Did you lift your crosstrek?
No I didn’t. I didn’t feel like I needed it. Thanks for the comment
Hello Elias … question- Does you 2019 have the X-mode ? I have 2017 daily commuter without the x mode unfortunately. Sooo Not sure if I should do the tires and rims. Just wondering what you think. Thank you Karl.
Hi! My 2019 does not have X Mode because it is a 6 speed manual. Only the CVTs have X Mode. I hope that helps!
Hey Elias, have you experienced a braking stop difference with the new wheel/tire setup compared to stock?
That’s a good question. I haven’t noticed. It still seems to stop pretty good to me
Thanks for the information Elias!
@@EliasDelvasto Thank you!
I have a 2016 Hyper Blue Crosstrek and I just pickup my camper that I have been waiting for 10 months
That is super exciting! Enjoy!
What trim level do you have ? Is TPMS necessary?
I have a premium trim level. As for the TPMS, I don’t think it is 100 percent needed but the shop that mounted the tires did it for me so it was nice and simple
@@EliasDelvasto so a light won’t go off? I have a premium as well, curious if I need to order the TPMS or Not.
That’s a good question. I just had the TPMS moved from the old wheels to the new ones. I’m not sure how it works if you run without them. I assume there is a way to disable it but I am not sure since I never did that. I wish you luck though!
How badly did the lift and the rack effect your gas mileage?
I don’t have a lift actually but the rack seems to have had the biggest effect out of anything that I’ve done to the car. The change in tires didn’t even lower the gas mileage as much as the rack. I’d say I’ve lost about 2 or 3 MPGs but that’s a very rough guess
Did you get the trailer hitch installed at a Subaru dealership or installed it yourself?
I installed it myself. If you wanted to try it yourself, I thought it was pretty straightforward. The instructions were clear and didn’t require any welding or anything super fancy like that. The only things you need are a file and torque wrench. The hardest part was just lifting it into place. Getting a dealer to do it is nice too though!
Although you should have got the forester crossbar instead, it’s flatter to the roof and you don’t have son roof anyway
I had no idea! Thanks for sharing.
Hi, nice video. Did you need any lift kit to use the wheels & tires that you are using?
Hi, thank you! No I didn’t need a lift. My suspension is stock.
Nice
What's your mpg with the basket + full spare? Also, do you do a 5 tire rotation with the full spare?
I haven’t payed super close attention to MPG with the basket and spare but I’m pretty sure it is 28-30. Makes a difference for sure. Also no, the full spare is solely a spare since I didn’t get it at the same time as the other 4 tires. Probably could have done a 5 tire rotation but wanted to keep it simple
I have a yakima basket and have lost about 1.6L/100km roughly.
Look so cool actually, I did but roof rack on for a month then I gave up. It’s fine if you drive slow 40-60 mph, but if above 65 mph it’s so noisy and shaky and it drop about 5 mpg, that was just empty roof rack with stock tires.
Definitely catches the wind at higher speeds. You’re right about that. I can also hear it on windy days
PROS-CONS - spraying Spray Teflon on Subaru 2023 Crosstek GLASS for non stick water-snow-ice etc
What sice of wheels you got?
The wheels are 15 in wheels. They are 15x7
Why are those Better than the factory ones ?
Are you talking about the wheels? Or tires? Or something else?
Other then looks. Is there any pros or cons to going from 17 inch stock rim to 15inch rim??
I don't even own a Subaru yet I'm watching this video 😂

Yes! Stock suspension
@@EliasDelvasto I have the same car is it just me or is this the slowest 4 cylinder ever to live lol
Ha! I try not to think about it too much. I feel like the manual helps but you are right 😂
@@EliasDelvasto i try not to think about it too but when I can't even pass up a Prius on the freeway that kind of scares me lol.
Screw the list. Whats your video gear and editing software? I love the color grade.
The XT3 does not have IBIS but the newer XT4 does have IBIS so maybe that could work for you? Just make sure to do your research of course!

Do you have any tire rub with the wheel/tire combination?
None! The 215 size is small enough to not have any issues. If you get into the bigger sizes (225,235) then you might start running into some rubbing issues. Especially the 235s
