As I play a bit more War Thunder and begin to pick up on patterns, I am hoping to give more commentary on strategies. So far things are translating well into sim because after all, it's just another combat flight sim.
I think I cant use links in youtube comments... But you can fix the gunsights in some aircraft. Search on google: How to make the MiG15 bis aim behave the same as the F-86(CL-13 in this case)? When I turn to shoot someone in the MiG the aim leaves my sigths. I want that only the gyro (or radar ranging) "star" or indicator to move like the F86. Keep the circle and dot still to always see them Also : How to use the Lim-5P radar? Its the RP-5 Izumrud. Could not find info about it. Does it help to calculate gun lead to the target? If so, how do I do it? Or the radar is just to keep contact with enemy in the clouds? There are comments in there fixing the sights issue. One of those solutions I think is reproducible to all aircraft. The solution comment talks about mig19-s I would send the comment link but its impossible on youtube comments
Helis in air sim add new targets ground and players and cleans the map of ground spaa and they can prevent the hoards of air field and base bombers it’s such an easy addition but make its so much more fun

Targets that require more precision rather than bomb-sponges, such as having to take out a specific building or bridge, strafe troops rather than just having vehicles, general unique CAS type missions that could require specific loadouts to affect, etc. There's a whole lot of unrealized potential in Sim Battles, it's a good springboard for truly deep gameplay loops.
You can actually mod the sights to any sight, static or gyro, that you like without breaking IC. I personally have no idea how, but there are guides on it. As for the IFF thing, you’ll already know about the quick chat stuff and how it marks the map, but you can bind all those commands to a single key to make it faster. You can also turn on wing smoke by hitting L by default - if you all set different colours it can be a good way to ID each other in a pinch without opening the map.
To exchange the gun sight in a Mig 17 to a non-wobbly one: 1. Create custom skin in WT via wand icon 2. Open the blk file in the folder that was created and add these lines replace_tex{ from:t="asp_3n_collimator*" to:t="mk11_mod2_gyro_collimator*" } replace_tex{ from:t="_empty_collimator*" to:t="type1_mk2_collimator*" } 3. Save and reload game. That gives you a static gunsight similar to the one in a Bf-109.

Never played it, but I do LIKE the way the terrain looks. The visual feedback feels better, or just my eyes can just interpret it better than other sims.
8.3-9.3 sim is one of the few BR brackets I like. Anything higher and there’s a chance to get missile spammed with no CMs, and it gets really unbalanced, but it’s still proper jet dogfighting.

Sim battles is great! I stopped playing RB after I found enough courage to try sim. But have you experienced enemies suddenly disappearing, not rendering? I've read about that old bug and seen a video of a fighter turning on its cloaking device in a fight. It could be that my old eyes are falling me but sometimes enemies seem to just vanish.
I play on mouse joystick and keyboard because I'm a maniac and it works for me ;) Very first sortie EVER in the Italian AMX and I got an ace +1. I find sim to be much more calm and intellectually challenging than RB because there is a lot of forethought out into it. I really enjoy that aspect.
I really don't get how russians were making a fighter, and made it look like they were really trying to make the pilot see as little as possible in front of him
im having a really hard time getting in to air sim i am on controller and i need help because i cant look around even if i have the free look camera bound to a button and i move it with my stick the plane moves its control surfaces accordingly howdo i fix this i tried so much but it doesnt work.
For the gyro gun sight to work properly you need to set the range (unless, like the F-86, you have radar to do that for you). Ordinarily (without radar) you set the wingspan of the expected opponent on the sight, then fly until the ring matches the target wingspan. There is some estimation involved unless you are at 12 o’clock or 6 o’clock. Hard enough to do when you can actually set the wingspan into the sight. Doesn’t seem to be an option in WarThunder, so who knows how they have it set up. Yup, better off with a fixed sight and Kentucky windage.
i really enjoy wt sim but im still not at jets yet, im really suffering bc im shit at B&Z tactics and allways start turning with planes that are way better than me
Ah, good old MiG-17... I tried it just once in air sim, enemy team had a ariete... This bastard got me like 12 times, giving me a PTSD. There was nothing I could've done. It's as fast as MiG-17, climbs better, turns better, retains energy like a UFO. Fuck this pay to win... The only way to win was to either ambush him (this guy was pretty experienced and always checked his 6), get a lucky shot or play with a teammate.
For a minute I thought its a new video with the DCS World: MiG-17F developer. I very much look forward to fly that. As for War Thunder, it is a 'Pay To Win' piece of junk since about 2018. Definitely not something that would worth one's time and money.

Sim is fantastic at all BR ranges. I do not touch realistic air battles with 10 feet pole after I got my Delanclip tracker.
You really need to try the LIM-5P basically a MIG-17 with much more visibilty a radar and an RWR
and better engine

iirc you can press the "Multi-Function Menu" (by default "Y") you can switch from gyro mode. I don't know if the mig17 has that feature tho.

The only part I hate about the early jets is when you have to go after enemy Bombers or attackers. They are supersonic and I'm not

War thunder sim for me has a very realistic phisic until SAS equipped top tier jet, I hope gaijin change the way they look now

Before you could deactivate gyro in planes with CCIP by turning off the balistic computer but now balistic computer only affects 3PV...

You can change the sight but you need to mess with the game files. It doesnt break the integrity check cause its a skin

There's a bug in the mig-17, if you turn off the sight in-cockpit, it stays on and still
